Let's put this hypotesys: Tod loses against MC so he goes to the losers.
Yet, if he wins that one he is in advantage against the loser of the winners match because due to his race he can study his eventual opponent in the same matchup.

Not that much, but the loser of the first series shouldn't be supposed to be at an advantage.
