That they don't reach the finals is just a question of statistics. But 2 of 115(?) foreigners remaining is really bad. That leads me to the question what are foreigners doing wrong? Is it the genes or are they too lazy compared to Koreans? I mean even Koreans outside of Korea or on foreign teams dominate foreigners. i don't see the logic at all. Good foreigners didn't come though, couple in incheon, couple sitting at home.

If it weren't for time constraints, I think the "win 2 BO3's" is a more likely option for making a comeback than the current "you have to win 3 straight maps" for Naniwa. If you assume the two players are evenly matched, there's a 50% x 50% chance of Naniwa winning 2 BO3's = 25% chance. If Naniwa has to win 3 straight maps in just one BO5, though, the probability is 50% x 50% x 50% = 12.5%. So, assuming all things equal (i.e. two generic equally matched players), you are 2x more likely to win 2 BO3's straight than to win 3 maps straight. If it was a 1-2 extended series, then you could either win 3 straight maps or drop 1 map and win 3. That math works out to a 15.625% chance of winning a 1-2 BO5 extended series, I think. TLDR: Assuming two equally matched players Chance of winning 2 straight BO3's = 25% Chance of winning a 0-2 BO5 extended series = 12.5% Chance of winning a 1-2 BO5 extended series = 15.625% I don't like the extended series rule. It makes comebacks SO unlikely, and I think you could argue that a 1 BO3 series advantage makes more sense when you lose in the Winner's Bracket instead of a 1 or 2 map advantage. If Extended Series applies even if two ppl meet in the Loser's Bracket (which I think it does?), then that makes even less sense.

I dislike this sentiment, although I also dislike the sentiment of the post it is responding to. 1. Who cares how Flash, Rain, Roro, etc. would do? It seems like mindless hubris just promoting stupid 2. Stop saying the "should have played better." a single quick tourney like that rarely produces "the best players" unless either: repeated a lot or one group of players is a lot better than everyone else.

It may not be the best solution, but it's more fair than a system where winning players aren't rewarded at all. A normal double elimination without extended series is fair enough.
