Coach Park is playing in this MLG right? So imagine if he'd got paired with an EG or TL player in his first game. Do you think he would have played vs them? No he's of forfeited his place. He's playing for fun and if he ever ran into an EG or TL player he would simple give them the bye

I see Catz as being in the same situation

Of course he would have played. This also does not even attempt to evaluate the actual issue. Just "its fine because Catz sucks"? That is not a good reason.

When did i say Catz sucks? I said he's not seen as a pro player anymore. He doesn't play to win major tournements be plays for moral support for his team

And its the exact same situation

Again no actual points here. Catz isnt a pro therefore its ok. That is NOT RELEVANT.

I made my point and you ignored it, Catz is most likely (i don't want to speak for him) but he most likely is not playing to win. He's playing for his team and for the enjoyment of it. When he runs into a team mate who has more chance, he gives it to them because he has no ambition to win the tournement.

But whatever you're being pathetic

He is not playing to win he is playing for fun is not a good enough reason I am sorry. This is completely unacceptable.

You guys are being pathetic. Giving someone doing something so unethical a pass "just because".

Take this shit to another thread, shit dosnt need to be in here.

Exactly. I hope someone clarifies the situation soon. If it turns out to be true. Man it looks bad for Root. Wonder what MLG will do about it? Seems an obvious disqualification scenario.

Who are they supposed to disqualify? Surely not Kane who there is no reason to believe had any say in this matter at all. If you want to treat the event as a team event, then there should be nothing wrong with one member of the team sacrificing for another, and if you don't view it as a team event, then surely one member of the team cannot be punished for the actions of another. Disqualify Catz if you want, but that won't do much good. If MLG had an issue with it surely they should just have told Catz when he informed them that he planned to forfeit, then he could choose whether he really wanted to forfeit and suffer the consequences or play out the games.

Imagine if this started happening in tournaments regularly. Any time there was a team kill they forfeit to the better player.

This is a big deal. If its true.

This would be more relevant in a case with a full LG-IM semifinal and the other finalist already determined.

Agreed. A team manager forfeiting to let an actual team member advance is not a big deal at all.

CatZ wouldn't be doing it if it had been in the (semi)finals.

So you admit it would be a problem if it was a semi final? Then why is this different? The principle is the same stage of tournament does not matter. If you disagree with one you must disagree with both.

Should have formulated that differently.
What I'm trying to say: had they met in the semis Kane would already have had a great run(and CatZ too, ofc), now (an early round of the LB) it's just a case of a team manager getting out of the way of a team member, you could argue that Catz should not even have signed up with that premise, maybe, maybe not.

You have basically just stated the problem and not given a reason why its ok.

Its basically just me robbing a bank. You could argue that I shouldn't have even entered the building, maybe maybe not right?

I'm genuinely confused as to what the problem is. (in the SC2 context)

If it is true-he gave his team member a bye into the next round. This is not acceptable and is absolutely no different than if he played and deliberately threw the games. Which I assume everyone would have a problem with. What is the difference?

In general team mates should not forfeit to team mates. If coach park forfeited to Demuslim, there would be a whole reddit thread about it, 500 comments deep.

In general I agree, but this is actually a little different since it was a walkover - purposefully throwing games is so much worse, especially for the audience.

I'm not going to comment on the situation at hand but your analogy is flawed. If Hirai (I think that's the coaches ID) of LG-IM was in the semi finals of a major tournament then forfeit to MVP then that's the same kind of situation. Nestea would never forfeit to MVP as both are professional players. Catz is both a player and a manager/owner. Its not the same

@bold part: this is exactly what happened IMO, not sure why it would be a problem for anyone.

Because it affects the integrity of the whole tournament? Imagine he worker rushed both games. No problem?

I don't care how he would have played out/thrown the games. He didn't, he forfeit in advance.

How does a forfeit affect the integrity of the whole tournament?

His teammate gets a rest and plays one less Bo3. Catz eliminates players in the tourney then forfeits to advantage his team. It does have an impact and team kills should always be played out. If this became a regular thing the tourney would be a farce.

Why is it a problem? Or rather, in what world is "throwing matches" avoidable?

People say rushing probes is unacceptable. I think how we handled the NaNi incident was bad. You can't force someone to try.

You say it "hurts the integrity of the tournament." How? What's the impact? What harm does it do to the tournament? There will not be sudden rash of people throwing games--there are a fairly unique set of circumstances where it's beneficial to both parties.

Answer my questions above please.

LG-IM all 4 semi finalists, forfeit to give MVP the win. Fine?

Its not a unique set of circumstances. There is nothing unique about it. It is a principle. Either its acceptable or not. Black and white.

You can't force someone to try. But you can disqualify them if you think they didn't try deliberately in order to influence the outcome.
