MVP's got it.
Socke probably in 2nd, hoping for Dimaga though

I think people is going to be very surprised by Siw

Havn't seen Mvp play in HotS at all, how is he doing?

Looking good, probably could have powered back into code S if he stayed in Korea. However, not good enough to the point where I'd expect him to make another deep run in code S. Then again, MVP has won the gsl before when he didn't really look like he'd make the ro8. The guy just knows how to win.
It could be hard for him with the lag in this group, but I'd still consider him the favorite.
|
MVP is playing from Korea right? If so then I expect him to lose
|
Expecting some heavy mech play from Mvp, people will most likely use and abuse the fact that Mvp is playing from Korea with high latency, against him. Hopefully Mvp has figured out really safe and solid builds to hold any possible weird all-in or micro intensive strat.
Cheering for Mvp and Dimaga to win.
|
|
Mvp playing from Korea is probably going result in him being knocked out of this. The EU guys are already capable of taking games off him and the latency issue is significant.
|
Someone official please tell me if Mvp is playing from Korea. Now! I still can't believe he's trying this.
|
Mvp going dooooown
|
|
Well, at least with this group format Socke can't get super unlucky ties. Now he should just not mess up force fields and he makes it
|
Predictions Mvp 2 - 0 Siw DIMAGA 2 - 1 Socke Mvp 2 - 0 DIMAGA Siw 0 - 2 Socke DIMAGA 2 - 1 Socke
Mvp and Socke advance!
Let's go Mvp!!

Funnily enough, I think Siw might have a chance of beating Mvp, but I don't think he can beat either Socke or Dimaga =)

Someone said in the other thread he is in Germany with MC for these games, not sure how accurate that is but hopefully true!
Gogo Mvp staying up all night for this!
|
Do we know for sure if Mvp is in Europe or in Korea for this one ?
He should take first place anyway. Would be a pretty big upset if he didn't.

I don't know which thread he is speaking about, but I have not heard of anything like this. It's speculated whether Mvp will move to where MC is staying once the Ro16 starts.

i have a feeling the poster may have mistaken Mvp for MMA (who will be in germany) since i've seen nowhere else that Mvp will be in EU hrmm

I doubt it matters if Mvp has lag for this group, it looks very easy for him.
|
On May 01 2013 19:50 Bowzar wrote:I cant believe Mvp is playing from Korea. How can such a smart player make such a bad decision?
Even if he loses he can still play in challenger and go back up to premier. It is a risk but not as much consequences as it maybe should be.
I'll hope that "Europe holds". And that would reiterate the statement that there is no easy grab of points or money to be gained in Europe. Commitments need to be forced on teams and players - and already started with MC and MMA. Granted koreans need to play at like 1-4 am but that is not stopping a proper gaming nerd.
I wish the same for WCS america .. maybe we need to send some players over

I feel like if he was in Cologne with MC there would have been at least a tweet about it or something and from what I know there is nothing.

Is MVP playing from korea aka with lag?
|
Gonna predict MVP and Socke to advance. I do think this group is pretty closely matched it really depends on if anyone can beat MVP, that will change a lot about the how the group goes.
|
|
If Mvp isn't playing from EU, then he'll lose.
Calling it now, I don't want to be, but Mvp won't advance if he's playing from Korea.
|
If MVP is truly playing from KR, anything can happen here. At the very least he should have prepared builds/starts that are less micro intensive.
|
Mvp is playing from germany. Anyway, hes done as far as being mechanically the best player or being top 5 in the world but he still should make ro4 minimum in wcs eu.

The delay latency from Europe to Korea is overrated, it's a second maximum and I don't think the other 3 players are actually good enough to take full advantage of that.

Proper planning and just getting used to the delay can make up for a lot though.

Wow dimaga is always fun to watch. Mvp vs Dimaga will be awesome.

Why colossus tech ? Templar tech is so much better to deal with ultras/lings .

Having an army consisting only of mineral units provides you with a lot of gas for techs and upgrades.

ugh socke, either do a GOOD 2 base timing or get a fast third. Failed timings into thirds don't work.. Fast third is not that hard against zerg, even against ling style. Just use the mothership core well

Dimaga always plays like that...he used to play ling baneling upgrades in wol with drops when ultras sucked.

Guess I need to check Dimaga vs Mvp now. Hopefully Dima can put up a good show for us.

Yes, he did massive damage with that first bust and then kept overextending for no reason, despite being up bases and workers.

Dimaga should have transitioned after the first attack. Mvp is still in this!

Mvp's splits and willingness to sac the SCVs to not lose the whole army is why I believe he is in a sick position. A widow mine shot helped, but damn.

His attack was all-in, but it did the damage he needed to do. He killed 33 workers, got a base up behind it, and could've gotten a good amount of tech too, instead he threw away thousands of resources in roachs/lings/banes when he already had an advantage.

Someone please tell Dimaga that banelings don't morph for free. He's throwing them away willy nilly.

I think Mvp could've gone for an attack as he got his 2/2. Also I don't know why he went for tanks over widow mines, the first 2 is ok to hold the bane bust, but late game they're just worse imo.

That flank that Dimaga did when MVP moved out was really impressive, completely crushed that army.
Ultras are really strong too, and I feel like Terran needs Marauders to handle them, Siege Tanks aren't enough at all.

Honestly I'm more surprised he decided to play bio.
Unless in a defensive position, I think widow mines are much better versus ultras. Roaches is about the same.
It's just so hard to stay aggressive with tanks. It creates sort of a death ball, and makes drops weaken your main army extra much.
What I'm trying to say is that I think it's less flexible There's a reason why Flash/Innovation are using mines over tanks, even vs ultras or even roach/hydra

Now he let Dimaga catch up in upgrades, as well as macro freely. Maybe he thought Dimaga would max with lings/banes/roaches afterwards. Those units are shit against bio when the upgrade lead for bio is that big. Once you have the critical mass, yes. But not before. Critical mass? He knew Dimaga had just expended an insane amount of larvae on all those lings and roaches, there's no way he'd have had enough left over to do something as crazy as remax. He had a good opportunity to attack and I'm surprised he sat back.

You really don't think either of those factors will affect his play? It's just a fact that Koreans are handicapped in these matches, now that's fine because they made that decision but you have to take it into account when judging a players performance. You can't treat a victory over Mvp here with as much prestige as it would hold at a LAN.

DIMAGA all-in'd him with a roach-ling-bane bust off of lair tech. Mvp lost about 30 workers, but continued to upgrade to 2-2. Mvp moved out then, and after DIMAGA continued to throw small bunches of ineffective units at him in an attempt to finish Mvp off, Mvp managed to get his third down and secure. He didn't press his supply equality and upgrade advantage, instead massing an army off of three base, allowing to DIMAGA to take the map. He could have moved out, but be it out of fear or whatever, he didn't recognize his edge, and failed to utilize it.

MVP's pre splitting is really excessive. It's a way to deal with lag but it lets too many Zerg units live.

|
Man, Dima playing so well in this game.
|
MVP still lives in the world of WoL
|
TVZ splitting with lag , looks like impossible to me
|
|
You can actually see the delay MVP is getting just by watching how late he boosts medivacs and splitting his bio. So very unforgiving against banelings.

That looked pretty ugly early for DIMAGA but he controlled well throughout the fight. C'mon DIMAGA!

on one hand, its too bad that MVP is going to lose. On the other hand, if this keeps Koreans from trying to play cross servers then good.

This matchup is pretty much impossible with the lag.

Mvp playing with lag but I guess that's the price Koreans pay when they choose to play in a different region.

Of course, few hellbats mixed in would definitely help in this composition (to tank banelings and against zerglings). Also hellbat drops are great, considering the zerg has mainly zerglings to defend.

MVP should of played in NA.

Must be nice to live in this happy place where Koreans have lag and your pros are actually good....sigh.

a brood lord switch would cripple mvp. hes getting more marauders.

That was really good for Mvp.

I love that Dimaga still use Infestors. A few of them to keep bio from kitting is so important

I dont think broodlords work on this map ..

Wow this deifying of MVP is ridiculous. He is probably playing with a bit of lack, but other Korean pros play much better on EU. Also he chose to play EU, so you can't really feel sorry for him.
I know his wrists are literally on fire, he has jetlag, it is late in Korea, he has lag, wrong hotkeys and JYP is distracting him, but this let's just say that Dimaga is playing very well.

Dimaga had way to little zerglings for helbats to be effective, so don't try to come up with false arguments why MVP lost. You can go helbats against Multa/ling/bane, infestor/ling or when you are thinking that zerg is going to remax on lings. Not against almost pure Ultra/Infestor.

Except Dimaga still had drones and mining bases. Would've just postponed the inevitable.

Come on now Socke! If you manage to win this series, you still have a chance of one-basing your way to the ro16!!!

Dimaga has the Naniwa syndrome I feel. He plays a lot better when he's not the favorite but sometimes have a hard time when it's obvious he should win.

Meh. Go Mvp. Slay the dirty tosses.

Haven't seen any terran beat any decent zerg with mech in a long time. I recall Maru tried mech in gsl and got slapped.

Not sure I like mech in TvZ. If you don't do a Ret and actually make the right units you can easily take it head on.

Yes, please no more terrans, from only 3 groups that have been played we already got 5/16 players as terrans =/. For sure TvT is the best mirror but I whould rather watch any other non-mirror. Europe stay classy!

It is by far the easiest of the 3 WCS tournaments but not so easy that you can play with that amount of lag and expect to win.

HerO has won against many top EU players over the years, but he also lost to quite a few of them in this long time period and got 2-0ed last weekend by Kas as well. Let´s just agree that it is harder to reach ro16 in EU than in NA, winning the championship is probably harder in NA.

Why do people keep saying '2nd tier Koreans' about Dreamhack when the lineup included
Leenock, Gumiho, Polt, HerO et al?
Unless you put Life/Innovation/Flash on a tier above everyone, those guys are all players who can compete in Code S when they're in form.

What if in PvP you could photon overcharge your opponent's nexus so it starts attacking him but like if your opponent had his own mothership core nearby he could override it

Think of the coin flips... do you send your core across the map to charge his nexus or leave it at your base to try and trap his core when it arrives???

or you could snipe an expansion and recall into the main, snipe the production, then recall again back home. you'd need alot of MSC energy though.

The whole idea behind the power nap is to have the self-control to wake up after 20-30 mins. Or you can use caffeine. I'm sure Mvp is good enough at timing to figure out how to have the caffeine wake him up at precisely the right time. XD

Well, this is what happens when you get caught by DT play without turrets built and a scan. Even if it takes 20 sec for a scan, DTs will do so much damage that it will not be possible to come back. They are incredibly strong in HotS, and no longer committing.

I am not sure if you are trying to tell that wasn't an option for MVP, because LGIM have an arrangement with SK (MC is right now on EU you know) so that shouldn't have been a problem for MVP neither.

Pretty easy for MMA to do that, considering his team just set up a house there I am not sure if you are trying to tell that wasn't an option for MVP, since LGIM have an arrangement with SK (MC is right now on EU you know). Seems rather poorly planned by LG-IM and Mvp. Oh well. Too late to do anything about it now. I guess they'll learn from this experience and make the adjustments next time.

Mvp is about to get knocked out O.o

High Templars out, good luck microing against those with lag.

I wonder why MVP doesn't go mech at all? Would benifit him in this lag too, right?

Even though the shrine is cheaper, Dts are still a heavy commitment. If Mvp had 1 or 2 turrets Socke is just dead.
Not so much against Terran. You can still go Archon/Chargelot during mid game if terran decides to punish you for failed DT play.
And MVP seems to be out O_o

they're playing so slow right now or is it just laggy???

If it works for Strelok it's good enough for Mvp ^^

Socke botched the game with bad positioning/map awareness I think.

To be fair, MVP didn't win that game. It's more like Socke lost it.

As saddened as I am, Mvp deserves this for staying in Korea. He might've had health problems keeping him from travelling, but honestly it was just a really poor decision and I am disappointed he actually decided to play this from Korea. I would expect him to be a bit smarter than Finale and Tails. Hopefully he can barely edge out the win here.

Slight difference in opposition skill level here.
Hellbats are good against heavy zealot compositions but your standard play they're only good for soaking storms.

Still, had he traveld to Europe in time to adjust to the European time, I think his chances of advancing would be near 100%. And with Rice living in Germany, chances are that he would be able to stay for free as well.

Anyway, had this open in another tab, back on-topic. Any games particularly worthwhile watching from this day's play folks? There seemed to be a lot of 'latency' cries in the LR, especially after the Dimaga games.
As an aside, I like to think I know most of the scene's players these days, but Siw is pretty much unknown to me. Despite him losing today I'd like to know a bit more about him if anybody has any interesting details?

Few pages ago he was sold to Poland or Denmark, I'm not sure anymore.

I need that WCS song. It's some kind of rearrangement of Akkadian Empire by Audiomachine

Dimaga as #1 is such an upset for me, and to think that Socke nearly made it out also...man. It was perhaps not the sexiest of games played but it sure was an interesting day.

I think it was more, that Socke lost it from Germany. So sad, he played well in all 3 games and then somehow completely fell apart in the last two. Congratz to MVP though, impressive result. I think he now finally has made his peace with TSL3.

Missed the games but Mvp is lucky he was able to pull out a win playing from KR here, I don't think it was worth the risk.
Now the rest of the tournament is offline so he should win or place very high, but he could have lost here.

A semi-pro who 3-0'd creator and BARELY lost 2-3 to life (at MLG). Damn. I wish I was semi-pro. Apparently it beats being full time in most situations. Also... doesn't HerO have better overall results than Gumiho? o:

also 3-1 creator

Dimaga got so lucky Mvp was in korea. In both games Mvp was totally outplaying dimaga but sadly its hard to micro bio with that kind of ping. There were points in the game that mvp's units were just waiting.
Odds are Dimaga will end his run in Ro16.

Odds are Dimaga will end his run in Ro16. Really? I guess we watched different matches then. Dimaga played great. I'm not saying lag didn't hinder Mvp, but you can't take anything away from him.

dimaga way have played well, but playing from Korea on EU latency vs decent players is Lol. it's just a huge disadvantage.

Mvp passes the first hurdle!
Onwards to the Round of 16 and the championship!
|
Yay Mvp made it, super risky playing with the lag.
|
Yay! Good job Mvp. Now get over to Europe!!
|
Nice to see a Zerg going on in WCS, also grats MVE. you are indeed the Most Valuable European.
|
In the post game interview, MVP talks a bit about the lag. He says that he played some practice games on the EU server and the lag wasn't too bad. However, during the real matchups, there were an additional 10 players added - all the observer spots, which made the lag a lot worse and the game harder to control. He says being in EU to play the matches like MC did was probably more worth it than he originally thought.
