We're going to release a TL recap of this week's matches so far and a preview for tomorrow's match right after this match finishes airing. That is, we will be previewing Liquid vs the winners of Prime/Startale!
I really hope Startale can win this. With their absorption of Zenex they have far more talent, but it remains to be seen if they can work together to defeat Prime. At the minimum I pray that it is not an MKP all kill.
Startale is so cool right now; my favorite GSTL team. PartinG, Squirtle, Life, Curious, Bomber, and Hack is such a ridiculous top line. They're too talented to not take revenge on Prime.

With the aquisition of ZeNex Startale has a lot of good players there. I just hope they have enough very good vT because Maru, MKP and Byun look scarry from every point of view you look at it.
Prime has had Startale's number recently but a lot of the Prime players seem to be playing kind of meh right now. I hope they can pull of the win but I wouldnt be surprised to see StarTale take this one

IT'S GONNA BE SO EPIC!!!
ok can someone tell me the joke to these posts? I don't get it.
The players played this season by all of the teams have been good, hell IM seems to be taking this more seriously than the GSTL.
It's a thing I regularly do.
For all IPL TAC match ups, I intentionally create a fictional line up for each team that consists of
inactive
inexperienced
least likely to be sent out
rather unknown
all of the above
players because it's a running gag of mine
Sometimes however, I intentionally throw in players even if they're well known or talented. In today's case, I don't necessarily think the ZeNEX players are terrible. I just wanted a full former ZeNEX line up (excluding Life) and Aphrodite as the ace
EDIT: And yes, it originated because of the IM coach

So Slayers.Genius will also be able to play in the Losers Final for Slayers?
Probably because MC was able to play for IM, i dont think there is a submitted roaster like in the GSTL is more like hey if you are on the team you can play

which should be changed! A player shouldn't be able to play for 2 teams during one season!

I think ST has this. Curious has also been performing incredibly well lately to add to their list of superstars. The ZeNEX players aren't half bad either. Hack has performed well recently (though losing to JYP was a bit strange).

I agree with the prime line-up and most of the startale line-up but they will send out both Parting and Squirtle and looking at Your list it will probably be at the exPense of either suhosin or Ace

i can't watch this game anyway; plus usually i stumble across results when bnet stalking for qualifiers and all. e.g. i found out coca > mkp for IPLFC when i was stalking for OSL quals. i think i found out today's results when stalking for WCS quals lol
Doesn't matter who Startale has added, won't stop them from making just as many bad decisions as ever when it comes to sending out players. I just hope that the Swag 3 play.

Naw they are 2nd worst right next to IM. Though IM seems to be bringing the big guns every time in this right now. Last match Startale played Kingkong first and the order was completely wrong too, was pretty terrible.

haha, not really something prime needs to worry about, they only have five players they can send. so sad, wish they could expand and add another good zerg/protoss to their current creator/bbbb lineup haha. prime is so zerg weak lol

IM has not really brought the big guns, they sent out Mvp and Nestea 0 times and MC once to get the final kill vs Slayers.
But It's true they have not been using Dreamertt and true so that's good.

and prime still has less terrans than slayers haha (maybe not now there is no clide) maybe by composition, 60% is quite a lot. but 3 is not a lot lol, when most other teams have more than that

Well IM hasn't really needed to use many players recently, but I think Losira is better than Nestea right now and he definitely is better in team leagues. I don't think Nestea should ever be used actually, should stick with Losira, MC, Seed, MVP, and Yoda/YongHwa/whoever.

Prime could need the help of any constant GSL level player.... Their lineup is so thin right now, it's very problematic, since their latest additions don't really seem to improve a lot and they lost 2 Zergs that at least were Code A quality at times.... I don't know why they don't get anyone on their team... Maybe their financial status is not that well after all -_-

prime financially definitely cannot compare to, say, ST or LG-IM or lotte-MVP their team house is quite small too (remember aria came in and masterbreti had to leave)

Really hope it's Startale that won, simply because I think they're the only remaining team with a lineup diverse enough to give a good show against an IM with two bo9s in their pocket.
Wow, probably first and only TvT of the night haha. Eager to see Hack play, his TvT is pretty good but Maru should still be the favorite. Hoping Prime can take the series but should be close regardless.
That 0 - 3 hurts so much. I hope Startale doesn't break my heart AGAIN. With all their badass Code S players now, I hope that Startale can rummage up enough of their A game in order to defeat Prime.
Maru still has to learn to play a real TvZ at some point. I know that it's very hard atm, but this is way too predictable.... Maybe Life forgot who he played....

Maru played some great TvZ before. Remember his games against July on Cloud Kingdoms with the double Banshee / raven opening ? Fun and nice macro game.

Standard quad Engineering Bay strat. Just in case of upgrading Engineering Bays going down, you have back-ups.
Is it just me, or is Muta/Ling/Bane becoming more popular recently? It is being used quite often compared to before (late 2011 to 2012), or maybe it is just Curious's style which is pretty old school.

and hoping Startale can take it, but not looking good so far :/ and wow, Startale has such a big lineup now ^_^
Edit: looking better now haha, nice attack by Curious
if zerg gets a whole surround, it doesn't matter if tanks are sieged. When your marines have nowhere to run, everything just dies! Those midgame push outs from terran only work if zerg messes up the engagement. That's why mutas are coming back so hard in this matchup, because Zerg don't worry anymore about big pushes, they worry about drops....
Curious looking in the greatest shape of his career lately. Think he also mentioned something about how he was performing much better in an interview after his GSL match.
MarineKing as second player ? Hum, why not. I think sending BBBB would have been fine too. If MKP fall right there it's gonna be hard tho. Doable with Byun and Creator but I think Prime would like MKP to take atleast 2 kills.

Would not have make a huge difference to be honest when you're flanked by banelings with tanks unsieged.
I'm a bit sad too see how unforgiving TvZ can be. Maru was ahead in everything before that fight. :/
SC2 games at the highest level could always be lost in a moment of indecision or lack of attention.
Protoss moves his army, and his Collosus get separated and picked off due to pathing. Usually game over. Or they miss forcefields :p
Zerg does great, all game, then clumps his BL-Corruptor deathball and gets toileted. Or moves a dozen infestors past some blink stalkers and loses them all. Game over.
Terran caught unsieged, or gets entire bio force fungalled? Game over

More that Maru played the "Unsiege all your tanks when the banelings are rolling towards you after you decided to push out 15 seconds before your upgrades are done" card.
Doesn't quite roll off the tongue as much as a good old fashioned balance whine though.

Well, he would have lose the fight even if sieged, but not that hard. With how it went, Maru didn't just lsoe a fight, he lost the game.

if you go a mech build with 3/3 upgrades and use them unsieged vs ultras they do fairly well, but not sieged up with the ultras spread out and no armor upgrades.

I think Curious' looked scarier when he won Code A flawlessly. Going into GSL November, a lot of people expected him to become the next big Zerg star with Nestea and DRG. Didn't happen, and the next big Zerg star turned out to be Leenock.

That's not really true, if those tanks were sieged and he waited for +2 he would have crushed half of that flank in one shot.

I remember the last time I watched MKP and Curious play. MKP demolished Curious in the GSTL. But that was the day that MKP was kissed by the Starcraft 2 Gods. Curious has been playing at a pretty high level lately and I think he might be able to take him out.
prime's biggest problem is by far zergs; they only have one out against them in creator, and when creator falls prime falls apart. there are very very few teamleagues prime loses when zergs don't get a killstreak against them. byun, mkp and maru have excellent tvt and tvp, but meh tvz of late, and they're the core of the team.

They played a really close game in the KSL finals online not long after that on Metropolis that Marineking won in that Startale all kill but the Russian caster was lagging a shitload so some people feel like it kind of messed up one of Curious's engagements where he started moving it and there was a big lag spike with the countdown screen and then Marineking crushed him. I'm worried about Curious here because he is really good when he is on his game
Feel like Joshy and Doa are seriously overstating MKP's importance. Yeah, he all killed in the latest GSTL finals, but honestly, Creator and Byun seem a lot more dependable at this moment.

Most casters seem to be. Accept it and give them feedback if you want them to improve.
His game knowledge appears little to none, his constantly corrected by Doa, and the rest of the time he is laughing, laughing every now and again is fine, but his doing it constantly.

That's some good news for both teams that both of them will at least get some money. I remember in the last TAC Startale fell one spot short of winning anything.

I'm always confused as to how much earlier these games are played than their broadcast. For example, Curious and Creator just played in Code A a few days ago. Would this game have been played before or after that?

I'm not sure about today's games but I believe the Prime vs EG matches were played between 4-5 days before the broadcast, so I assume this is about the same
You know, I've been thinking a bit about Prime's roster, and I realized that Prime's small roster size does hurt them a bit in important teamleagues. Basically 95% of the time, Prime will send out MKP, Byun, Maru, Creator and B4, and rarely will anyone else be used. It makes it very easy then to prepare for them.
It also means that Creator and B4 are essentially the only Protoss and Zerg that Prime regularly uses, so Prime's racial diversity is also limited in that regard.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling a GSTL and IPL TAC championship team weak by any means, as each of Prime's 5 elite players are very strong and pretty versatile players, but I do think it is a major weakness for the team. If they had another strong Zerg or Protoss, it would make them much more dangerous.

Startale has a lot more players but they still end up playing the same players a lot of the time it seems, though that may well change with the addition of the Zenex players.
In the last few weeks, it feels like he installed a JulyZerg randomizer in his heads in terms of what strategy he uses in each game. Showing some really strong games in all of his matchups.

Yeah, but to me it feels like Startale could throw out Hack, July, Life, or Tiger, or even KingKong, and I wouldn't be that surprised, as long as they still use Curious, Squirtle, PartinG and Bomber. It just feels that Startale has more options.
I would be pretty surprised to see someone outside of Prime's top 5 being deployed in a high stakes match. It's like the gap between Prime's A team and B team is just much larger than in other teams.

Yeah you have a point, they seem to have quite a bit of versatility with the opening few players
ByuN has some of the best late game TvZ as far as I know. He just has the perfect composition against whatever the Zerg throws, and has some great Bio micro.

So wrong on the spot.
Not balance whining, its an observation on game mechanics. When Brood Lords come out there's a huge swing in power in the zerg's direction. Not to a broken degree, its an interesting way of making the game dynamic, but when Terran is unprepared (as I thought Byun was, but as I said, I'm wrong a whole lot of the time) it does look like something broken.

Then don't call it GGlords. When Protoss got Colossi and you have no vikings, you are fucked as well. I guess you can call that game mechanics.
I'm sure people still remember Bomber lose against Byun in ro4 Code S like a year ago after leading 2-0. Not sure if it will make Bomber willing to have a revenge or just shake him. :p
Bomber? That's interesting. I'd rate ByuN's TvT slightly above Bomber's. PartinG probably would've been the best choice, but maybe they weren't confident as ByuN had been working on his TvP in preperation of his GSL Ro4 match? When were these matches played?

No. All I can ever think of is the time he threw the game against MKP in the GSTL finals. Why was your army on the top part of the map Bomber? What was the purpose!?!

On July 27 2012 10:08 opterown wrote: what happened in this game? how come byun is so behind?
ByuN tried to proxy Marauder, and Bomber sniffed it out before it did too much. Bomber is ahead a base, and sends a Marine push to ByuN who was teching to Cloak Banshee. Bomber kills Cloak with 11 SCVs, and just rides the advantage.
On July 27 2012 10:08 opterown wrote: what happened in this game? how come byun is so behind?
proxy marauder scouted so bunker went up. byun went for a cloakshee followup but Bomber hit a pretty nice combat shield timing where byun had a marauder and a marine out at his base vs like 15 marines which killed 20 scvs and the tech lab before cloak was even half way done. too far behind after that
How come Doa and Josh don't realize Creator picked Tal'Darim because if he picks Metropolis and wins, ST will send out Parting/Squirtle and TDA is PvP hell?
To be honest, I think that Bomber waited for reinforcements after the first big push, where he could have already killed Byun, because he wanted to drop more manner mules.

A win is a win. Startale is still alive and they kicked Prime out of the running. If Bomber's play at the end of the last game was any indication then I would say atleast Bomber is certainly very happy.

Sometimes you take what you can get :p
well with an overall record of like 6-2 or 7-2 in favor of prime, you could say it was about time for ST to get something done in this matchup .
GG ST, too much Prime players slumping recently for their small roster to keep up top results in Team Leagues. Now it's time to get MKP, Creator, Maru and BBongBBong back on track. The GSL break might've come here at the right time.
because as a die-hard Slayers fan, beating Liquid is probably going to be a lot easier than beating Startale! Easier path to the finals and for our revenge match against IM! Oh god, I'm so opportunistic and Machiavellian!
It's bad news for Liquid, when StarTale has an answer for TaeJa, in each race. Bomber/PartinG/Curious, are all difficult opponents the crown prince of Liquid. HerO really will have to be the hero for the team, if they want to have any hope of making it to the LB finals.

I think you mean Squirtle/Bomber/Life/Curious/Parting. Parting is sick but I trust Squirtle a bit more, either can catch fire if needed however.

From yesterday's thread
On July 26 2012 10:01 Liquid`Nazgul wrote: This speculation on whether or not we win based on tweeting is really annoying. I guarantee you there is nothing there to be found, ever. Tree-hugger our news writer has the specific task to hype up matches for certain leagues (IPLTAC3 clearly being one of them) with a newsthread on www.teamliquidpro.com and a thread on reddit. This will always happen regardless of our result. You can look back for like the past 20 or whatever team matches we have played (long period) and they will all have been hyped up win or lose.
As for the twitter that is typically done by someone who has not seen our matches. The majority of the time you see our twitter being active during such a match it is simply because someone available to do that job happened to be watching. Since he has no idea on whether we win or lose it is meaningless to speculate what the result will be based on twitter activity.
I take a lot of pride in doing things the right way and I will never tell a guy not to promote a match because we lost. If promotion is lacking it is for other reasons. If this lines up with a loss, so be it, but that is just going to be random chance.

Fatalism doesn't do anyone any favors. In whatever I write for TL, I try to be upbeat until it really is over. Also, we always try to make sure we have someone who does not know the result doing the tweets.

And Kennigit, that well thought out post made me see the error of my ways. Next time you could be a bit more politer and explain like treehugger did instead of calling people idiots and then posting that 6 second video.
A great day for Startale. I hope they celebrated after winning. I hope this helps them in terms of their confidence in team leagues. Prime was their biggest demon to be slain.
I echo a lot of others in the thread, I think Startale v. Liquid is going to be a great match, both teams seem to be on an upswing. I'm eager to see how Startale handles Taeja.
Ah man, sometimes I think Hack is the best terran on ST and then he loses and Bomber plays great.
Then I think Bomber is the best on ST and he loses to someone average in a qualifier and Hack makes it through.
As a side note: good to see Curious starting to stack up more results. I've underestimated him for far too long, I actually want to see him finally make a run people will get hyped about.
