The time has come for our twenty-fifth IGN Pro League Fight Club! This is a weekly king of the hill showmatch series. Basically, there will be a 1 vs. 1 best of 9 showmatch each and every week, where the winner will earn a $500 prize and a $100 bounty on their head. For example, if a player wins three weeks in a row they will have earned $1,500 and a $300 bounty. If a NEW challenger defeats him, they will earn $500 for the showmatch, take the $300 bounty home, and have a new $100 bounty placed on their head for each week that they win. (Similar to IPL Team Arena, but without the teams!)
When: Monday, Jul 09 11:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also broadcast the match repeatedly afterwards!)
CoCa has already done the unthinkable in taking out MarineKingPrime with relative ease! This week, he will face one of the most consistent Protoss players in recent months, ST.Squirtle! Will CoCa be able to cement himself as a specialist in ZvT and ZvP, or will Squirtle grab the reigns from him this week?
CoCa 5-3 imo CoCa used to have legendary infestor based zvp, i can't see Squirtle taking it to a final set, but he's still a gsl finalist and slays plenty of nerds

The state of all matchups is pretty terrible right now.
Ironically it's the mirror matchups that are probably as good as they've ever been. All the non mirrors are pretty much the most boring they've been in the last 18 months.

They work really, really well and these guys are pro gamers, I'd expect 2 base all ins in most PvZ. Squirtle wrecked Symbol in their first Bo3 in GSL a couple weeks ago.

That's actually true. I see more variety in PvP than I do in PvZ.
Coca should of got Air Armour before attack. Falling behind on armour upgrades vs carriers will lose you the battles, just as we saw. Each armour upgrade is -16 damage.
Nice to see proper carrier build with vortex and storm.
If you don't have vortex and storm mass corrupters will win, but with it it's very hard for zerg to handle especially if you get behind on upgrades like Coca was.

Only because Squirtle is a level above Coca. Squirtle has had some beautiful moves this series (like baiting out the infestors and sniping them with feed backs last game)

Yeah, I can see that. Lot of failed all ins, and what was basically a 20 minute no rush.
That being said there have been a lot of neat plays by both (or arguably huge mistakes).
1. Squirtle saving his nexus from those infested terrans on entombed. 2. Coca's bizarre 3rd setting him up for easy flanks against the 7 gate 3. That hatchery snipe into infestor snipe 4. The pylon placement in game one. Squirtle using his proxies to create easier forcefields in open space.
While maybe the games overall haven't been great, this has been a very entertaining series with lots of fun moments.
Carriers are fitting into the metagame. They're not a spectacle unit anymore. However, the no Coli, no Immo transition into Carriers is incredibly weak. If Coca was scouting, he could've maxed and killed him at 13, 14, 15, or even as late as 16 minutes with any combination of hydras, roaches, zerglings and infestors.
Ugg, Coca has done this before, he forgets to rebuild drones and get the drone count to where it has to be. His production is just so slow and his upgrades are terrible.

EPIC misread there. What the hell made him think he was going Stargate????
In all seriousness though if you see the Sentry Immortal push coming, Hydras are good against those units are they not??? You'll have fewer of them than you would Roaches, but they'd be stronger against that unit composition.
I say HuK next would be exciting. I know a lot of people don't like PvP series but it's starting to become a great matchup and one which the top foriegn protoss (Naniwa, HuK, Mana) can win.
Edit: Wait no. This is better:

They surely can't bring in another P, since it was Squritle after Coca and JYP. PvP is a really fun match to watch ... in GSTL or TAC, but in BO9 extended series? That's a borefest.

IPL Tournament of Champions wasn't that long ago. Kas is somewhat inconsistent admittedly, sometimes showing great results against even top Koreans, and making all other foreigners look like a league below him, and other times looking like just a normal foreigner.
But Kas already has been invited to the Fight Club, and he lost to Ganzi (though I remember it was a pretty close series), so it would not be fair to invite him back so soon.

Exactly, 1 series means jack shit in SC2 at the moment. There are an infinite number of examples of inferior players beating much better ones, and plenty of not so extreme examples also.

All anyone said was Kas wouldn't be a walkover, not that he is as good as Squirtle. Kas could take 2 or 3 games in a best of 9. The point was it would be a competitive showmatch even if Squirtle would be the obvious favorite. That is gonna to be the case with almost any foreigner though. Is IPL not supposed have any more foreigners play in the Fight Club because Squirtle is the favorite?

Exactly. It's about body of work. Should we compare Haypro to Nestea? Should we compare Ret to MVP? Nerchio to MC?The list goes on and on. It's absolutely ridiculous to think two players are overall comparable just because one beat the other in a series.
Gratz Squirtle! Hope he can win several weeks consecutively so as to become the first play to actually hold on to the title for more than 3 weeks. Seems very unlikely though.

You said inviting Kas would be donating money to Squirtle. Thats what I denied. Kas is clearly not better than Squirtle. And Ret isnt better than MVP. But they both showed they can compete.
And I think we need another foreigner in the Fight Club. It has been 7 weeks without one. And they are not many who a better shot than Kas who has already played in this. Out of the top foreigners Naniwa, Sase and Huk didnt play. Time for the first PvP on Fight Club? Though Squirtle is a PvP beast.
Its the same in every sport.. styles make fights.. Anderson Silva is lightyears ahead of chael sonnen when it comes to being the p4p best fighter in the world.. yet when they fight Chael gives Silva a run for his money.. yet Chael will never accomplish anything close to what Silva has.. just Chaels style is Silvas weakness
Ret's style poses a threat to MVP yet Ret will never accomplish what MVP has

Yea only SaSiWa at this point would stand a chance. Maybe HuK on a good day.
I feel like DoA has really fallen behind in the sc2 scene since he left Korea. Today he was really shocked about the Carriers and saying Squirtle is the only player that can make them work when in fact they have become a part of the PvZ metagame and are great in the late game. Also I learned that he is a zerg which helps me figure out the reasoning behind some of his biases, such as saying that Symbol is a superstar while Squirtle is not despite him saying in the same cast that he doesn't consider someone a superstar until 6 months of very high performance. I don't like to knock (ha, kevin knocke, punny) on casters but at one point I felt like DoA and Wolf were a great combo, but now I can't help but find myself disappointed in Doa's casts. His overall level of SC2 knowledge just isn't there right now. Thoughts?

I don't think his knowledge was ever that good to be honest, I think his real bias is towards SlayerS players, did he switch to zerg? Always thought he was terran, yet played a bit of the other races to help his casting. I only really thought he worked well with Wolf tbh.

I have never been impressed by Naniwa's PvP. Maybe I'll look into some replays of his sometime, but I don't think he would stand much of a chance against Squirtle. Squirtle would probably mind game Naniwa pretty hard too since they live together.

fwiw i like doa and kevin, they're pretty entertaining
I have never been impressed by Naniwa's PvP. Maybe I'll look into some replays of his sometime, but I don't think he would stand much of a chance against Squirtle. Squirtle would probably mind game Naniwa pretty hard too since they live together.

Thoughts?
Also whatever happened to Painuser and HD?

Edit: Wait no. This is better:

DRG would be FANTASTIC.
That's just stupid. No foreigner protoss has a PvP on par with Squirtle's. They would get slaughtered.
naniwa maybe?
Would be like 5-1 or 5-2 Squirtle with a few games being stomps for Squirtle.
I don't think his knowledge was ever that good to be honest, I think his real bias is towards SlayerS players, did he switch to zerg? Always thought he was terran, yet played a bit of the other races to help his casting. I only really thought he worked well with Wolf tbh.
He mentioned in this cast that he plays zerg I believe. And yeah his knowledge never stood out, but atleast before I don't remember him just saying a lot of flat out wrong things and contradicting himself mid-cast. Ah well.
I can never get over the fact that Doa described a protoss doing a 4 gate against terran as a defensive 4 gate. My opinions of his game knowledge has been greatly influenced by my memory of this.

Yea only SaSiWa at this point would stand a chance. Maybe HuK on a good day.
.. huks pvp is better then naniwas or sase's lol. by a fair margin too imo. huk vs squirtle bo9 would be an extremely close series

As nice as donating money to Squirtle is I would rather it be a bit more of a challenge...
The Gumiho suggestion is great I think, both players have some fun builds and stuff.
Kas did actually win vs Squirtle in the IPL Tournament of Champions. He also beat Creator lately in the Ritmix RSL. (with the server advantage there, yes) Show some respect.
Haha you are a funny man. Squirtle would wreck them both in a BO9, games against Gumiho would be much more interesting.
Yeah I know how Kas plays and that sometimes he can be good, but comparing him to Squirtle or Gumiho is just laughable.
Why? Kas beat him remember?
Because it is about the body of work? Should we compare Goody to MMA? Sage to DRG? roof to Stephano?
Exactly. It's about body of work. Should we compare Haypro to Nestea? Should we compare Ret to MVP? Nerchio to MC?The list goes on and on. It's absolutely ridiculous to think two players are overall comparable just because one beat the other in a series.
I think Kas is better than Gumiho. Gumiho lost to a tired Thorzain.
