I don't think Symbol was exactly a favorite. He's riding a Zerg patch.

what the fuck?

symbol beat MKP 3-0 before the zerg patch. Also do you remember Ironsquid finals??????

Not saying Symbol is bad, but did you see those games?

yes?

He beat MKP in ZvT late game with drops/nydus/tech switch. hows that patch related?

I'm talking about how he beat MarineKing 3-0 in IronSquid. I don't think he won today just because of the patch.

Ah sorry, i watched IronSquid games. He countered MKP in every single game.

And it's annoying to hear Artosis hyping Symbol. (Symbol is the best Zerg in the world and DRG is downgraded to "smartest" Zerg in the world, lol)

Turns out there is an ulterior motive - selling Symbol T-shirts at his shop. Geez.

Yeah, I don't see how him cheesing these games takes anuthing from the achievement. He punished MKP for his being too greedy and did it perfectly. And today he proved he can win in the long macro game thanks to superb multi tasking and decision making

The patch affects every game. Did Symbol win just because of patch? No, of course not. But to say the patch had no affect since it went late game is naive. Different strategies are used because of patch and the meta game shifts. It would be like saying the ghosts nerfing didn't matter because the game didn't have ghosts. The nerf IS the reason for lack of ghost.

Symbol did what needed to be done but it wasn't a tremendous display of skill like today's games were.

Exactly, since ghost nerf terran has no real answer to late game zerg, and the patch helps zerg get through to this stage of the game
Symbol is obviously a great player though, and showed his skills in that series for all to see.

Did they make emp and snipe completely unusable? Because I don't think they did.

They made them less good, but that's not the same thing.

Well I personally think that today's performance along with his insane GSTL record, Symbol is the world #1 zerg right now, perhaps even #1 player. If he plays the way he did today, he might very well win this season's Code S. (He's a royal roader as well, right?)

You're logic is flawed. What your saying is that Mass Reaper is viable because it is not completely unusable.

They made it so that ghost is only good against infestor but absolutely terrible against everything else Zerg have. So you have 12 ghost for infestors, and zerg make BL / Ultra after lose infestors, you are stuck with 20 gas heavy supply that does pretty much nothing.

they made snipe and emp useless vs zerg. snipe cant even kill a zergling and infestors are humgonous its very very difficult to get good emps off.

Yes, he is prob best chance of one we got in a while. However, I don't think he is better than DRG. Symbol sometime (which is pretty often nowadays) does absolutely amazing stuff, but occasionally he have games where you go "WTF??!" In fact, quite similar to MKP in this regard. DRG just plays at one (extremely high) level constantly, and it's really really tough to beat him at that level in a BoX.

Right because beating Parting ( best toss ) and MKP ( best terran ) in back to back series isn't a huge accomplishment or anything.

I don't remember mentioning Reapers at all actually and nor do I remember saying Ghosts are viable.

I just said both of the abilities still work and can still perform a role, whether you deem that role to be of value or not is up to you.

Since the Infestor is the lynch pin of virtually any Zerg composition and the main provider of decisive, victorious engagements for Zerg players, I'd personally value any unit which can potentially stop them, or reduce their immense power.
