For day 2 and 3 i'll be waking up at like 3am. Not sure what is the deal with all the crying that's been going down in here but like 80% of the thread is Europeans complaining that an AMERICAN tournament is at a inconvenient time for them >.>

What time do you want this start at? Two hours earlier when a lot of people will be still in school or at work? Or would you want to start it later a few hours and have them go until 2:00 AM+ into the night to try and keep up to schedule?
So starting an event at 9 AM is way too much to ask. It has to start in the middle of the day?
It's a FRIDAY, LIKE YOU SAID. Kids in school till 3:00 PM, usually. Adults in work until maybe around 4:00 PM/5:00 PM. If you start it at 9:00 AM on a Friday, you're going to have 10 people in the audience. That would be idiotic by MLG to basically say fuck you to the audience who paid a ticket so that they can cater to the European audience.
Nobody expects a friday crowd to be big. And they would still get half of the day of games anyway and would not be forced to watch games in the middle of the night with games played by exhausted players.
Instead EU will bring 20.000 viewers that will watch MLG ads or what ever. OH, but that sounds too ambitious I guess.
Meh, your arguments are weak. 9:00 AM on a Friday morning is an awful time. MLG has always started 4:00 PM with it's opening ceremonies in whatever time zone they are in. No one should expect MLG set in Anaheim to cater more to the European audience than the pay who paid tickets. Same thing with how Americans shouldn't expect special treatment by having Dreamhack or GSL start at crazy times so they get more viewers.
The people that paid tickets most likely will not be so cheerful in the middle of the night in Anaheim even if the schedule will go as planned (though, let's be serious). Some will also leave. I can bet that many will not come in the first place on friday.
The games will deteriorate as players go in the night. So how is this a win win situation for the people in Anaheim? Because they get to see the opening ceremony?
9:00 AM for an event that goes 12+ hours is a perfect time. And the bonus is that you get global coverage not just local.
But to be honest my main concern is that when EU will wake up in the morning we will see some terrible game played live by exhausted players.
You do know that they lose their entire US audience (with jobs) for AT LEAST 7 hours if they start at 9AM on a Friday, right?
It's a west coast event, the closing times tend to suck even for East Coasters. Nothing can be done about it and it's usually only one event per year so deal with it...
The number of self-absorbed people who complain about start times of American events is staggering. Suggesting that a paid live audience of thousands must greatly inconvenience themselves so that you, halfway around the world, can watch at what you deem the perfect time is amazing. Why do we not see the same from Canadians and Americans and Australians when events are held in Europe? When an event is outside of your home continent you take a midday nap, buy some fucking energy drinks, and watch all night. This is the reality of international competitions, now put a sock in it.

On times, here in sunny England it's actually a pretty perfect time for me. I have to stay up till about 2am to watch it all but hell I have the weekend off I was going to do that anyway. Now to figure out how to surreptitiously watch MLG while my mates are round tomorrow. They're not exactly the...type...to enjoy watching SC with me
I suppose your right... I should be nice. I mean, all tournaments times are mostly based around the timezone they take place in. To say EU will bring 20k views for MLG ads is probably true; but they will get that many if not more in the US too. GSL/Dreamhack/MLG... what better examples of the point I'm trying to get through his/her thick skull do I have to make?
EDIT: I was at MLG Columbus... It was packed every single day of the event. "you're going to get like 10 people in the audience" is a bunch of BS. There is SO MUCH to do around the venue besides sit and watch...

One thing they should do actually is make VODs instantly accessible (and free). That should alleviate the pains of the people the people that missed some the games. As soon as I see that I have to wait a day for the VOD that I want to watch, or that not all the VODs are available, I give up on watching them all together.

Everyone follow updates from @Kennigit on Twitter! But this is what he has tweeted so far:
- Showing video of multiplayer update. Changing Mothership to "Mothership Core". Tempest attacks air and ground. - Oracle has cloaking ability. - similar to motherships cloaking ability. Has to stay stationary while casting it it looks like. Widow mines attack air or ground. - Spider mines except they have a timer on them and attach to units (you could probably pull them out of your control group to not get owned) - "Blinding cloud" on viper. Looks like dark swarm from BW - Video showing baneling/line viper vs marine tank. Viper pulls tanks towards them while banelings run in at marines avoiding splash. - Battle Hellion discussion: Late game terran vunerable to charged zealots - this is basic answer. Substantially worse vs banelings. - Good as part of a larger army comp late game. Showing Warhound now - 2 weapons: cannon +dmg vs mech and missles - autocast (if you want) - Missles autocast vs mech units. Shoots closest mechanical target - to break up the monotony of TvT - Gives factory option against protoss. - Widow Mine (temp art is a spider mine). Leaps up and grabs ground or air targets. Timer (10 seconds currently). AoE dmg. - Widow Mines trying to break up death balls. - If the unit dies (you kill your own unit). It doesn't do AoE to units around it. Removed bombs from Reaper - added regen out of combat. - Attack, retreat, reheal, go attack again. - Viper can drain live off a building to regen energy.

How many times we hear excuses for friday crowds? At every tournament out there friday crowds are small because, guess what, it's Friday! So it's not like I am shitting words out of the blue, or maybe you don't watch many tournaments to hear all the excuses for the 10 persons crowd clapping. Maybe this MLG will be different.
And posting offensive is such a good way to make your opinion heard.

Exactly. In Columbus. It was virtually impossible to be bored. They had soooo many stations set up with different games for people to play. With HotS there, it will be manic.
