+ Show Spoiler [About Nation War Season 1] +

The original TL thread can be found here.

Back in the day when Starcraft 2 was first launched and when dinosaurs were still eating your children - a time before sc2sea.com even existed *GASP!*, there lived a mythical creature named deL. This unique creature was half-man half-troll, for he could at one moment be an extremely contributive member of the community but at the very next morph into a hybrid of uncletom's butt, aean's toe and kringe's right arm on steroids. Fortunately for us, in one of his more lucid moments he came up with a brilliant idea of having a Nation Wars tournament for the SEA region. This tournament would pit the best countries on the SEA server against each other in a league style format, with games being cast live every week. This is the very tournament which established SEA superstars such as mOOnGLaDe & RedArchon as the names you know today, as well as breathing life to a new breed of mutants whom we now call casters. Seasoned veterans like Unstable, kelly, mezza, Hdphoenix, navi and tenz we silly newbies back then with 640x resolutions who started casting for the first time!

Anyway, after coming out with the format, rules and announcements deL pulled out at the last minute saying the tournament was unable to proceed as he had other commitments and would not have the time to manage it. This is where nirvAnA for the first time in a long while decided to put on his organising boots once again, and took over the running of the league. With the help of the dedicated nation team leaders, over the next 2 months a widely successful Starcraft 2 event for the SEA region was held. Somewhere during this time, on 14th Sep to be exact, sc2sea.com was born! (ok sidetracked!) Anyway, the winner of the tournament came down to an exciting Ace match on the final play day where Australia (which could potentially be tied with Singapore) spurred on by mOOnGLaDe managed to defeat NZ 3-2 in a thrilling ace match against Kowi.

A look back at the final standings of Season 1.

At that point of time the community was much smaller, sc2sea.com did not exist, and people were just playing for fun and pride but we still had an awesome time! For season 2 we have a $1,200 USD prize pool, we are supported by our ever growing community at sc2sea.com and with the Asian powerhouses Taiwan and China been thrown into the mix, things are only going to be bigger, better and more exciting this time around!

The first in our two part pre-season interview series features Team Managers jump, WaWa, yongming and deL.

Q1: Who do you think is the strongest team to win this Nation War League and why?

WaWa: I think Team AU is one of the favorable teams to win the whole event. Even though TW, SG and NZ have amazing players in their roster. I think AU has the most depth in their lineup and that's pretty hard to beat. TW is a close 2nd but I'm not really familiar with their players besides Sen. I'm still hoping for an upset to happen.

yongming: China, followed closely by Taiwan. Apart from Korea and Taiwan, I believe that they are the only country with a professional starcraft scene. Outside of Korea, China is beastly in Brood War, WarCraft III, DotA, etc. It is only natural that they are beastly in Starcraft II as well.

jump: In my opinion I think everyone think as same as me best of SEA Nation war League season 2 is China because xigua and xiaot are top players in world although China don't have Loner but that enough to be the strongest team in this season

deL: Initially I would have said China, and still would have if the format was all-kill just based off what I saw from their Zerg ace XiGua. However, seeing a few key players had other tournament commitments China's lineup is looking a lot less scary, though still perfectly capable of a win.

Taiwan's lineup looks similarly talented and with players coming fresh off their intense local TeSL seasons I am sure they are all in top form. The rivalry between SEA and TW should fuel their desire to win this event! As always you can't leave out the defending champions Australia especially with such an enigmatic leader - though last season was close! I'd say China, Taiwan and Australia are equally likely tournament favourites.

Q2: Are you happy with your team selection and if you had to pick your 3 star players who will they be?

WaWa: I am very happy with the selection we have and the PH community will mostly agree. The players were not only chosen based on skill but also with the willingness of participating in the Nation War Series and representing Philippines proudly. Right now, we have enderr and jabito as our 1&2 (in no order). The third person could be anyone in the team as they all show potential of being great at this game.

yongming: I think that our selection process is fair and the team is definitely sufficient in putting up a strong showing in this nation wars. However, I am not staying satisfied with the current pool of players. I hope that those who did not make the team will strive harder to compete for the team selection slots. As for those who never participated in a tournaments, I hope they will consider to do so and who knows they might be the next up and coming player from Singapore.

I think the top 3 players in Singapore currently is pretty much common knowledge, namely, iceiceice, FlashRevz and aLtOxygeN. I consider them to be the players with the most experience and results from tournaments.

jump: I'm very happy with Thailand team everyone in top of server are join in Thailand team such as NeoRedArchon and Fah and sure top 3 stars of Thailand are NeoRedArchon NEOindy Fah

deL: Australia is a really easy team to manage for me, as with most of the players I have known them since BW days and see them play almost daily. I am definitely happy with the team and I think it represents not only the best SC2 talent Australia has to offer but also some of the best players in SEA. One regret is that Filthy is only playing casually now, but I guess if he had been in form it would mean too many direct invites leaving no room for qualifiers, and it would make picking the strongest lineup a real headache!

The top three players might not necessarily be the most skilled players of course, as there are a lot of unknowns in a nation war. Players with a lot of pride in playing for their country or a good team spirit could punch above their weight. Similarly, arguably the greatest threats are players who are not from the SEA region so results in SEA might not matter so much. Players who will take the event seriously and practice on their map or for their opponent should excel compared to those who see it as just another event, and as such I am expecting mOOnGLaDe (last season's MVP), Azz (puts a lot of thought into every game) and PiG (most enthusiastic player in the team). Notable mentions of course go to Rossi, deth and EdgE who having played in TA will encourage and help each other with their games, iaguz who can perform under pressure, and SenSei for his national team experience from season 1 and BW.

Q3: How do you think you will fare in your first match this week, who are your picks for qualifying from your group and how far do you think your team can go?

WaWa: With all the matches lined up for this month, I think week 1 has the highest potential for us to win even though it is pretty much just as hard. I trust all of my players and I believe we have the potential to win the whole event. GLHF son!

yongming: I think I have made sufficient preparations over the week discussing with my players and deciding who to play on which map. In such a format where player line-ups are selected according to maps and then released in full, I tried minimise disadvantageous situation that could happen. Thailand's line-up did not come too much of a surprise to me but I expected certain players to be sent out other maps. Overall, I am confident with the line-up I had put out against Thailand. I hope I am not appearing to write off Malaysia prematurely but me and my team recognise that the winner of Singapore vs Thailand in the first round could potentially decide who gets place second in group A with China looking set to take top spot. However, if I have to pick, I would pick China followed by Singapore to make out of Group A.

As for how far Singapore could go, it really depends on who we meet in the semi-finals (Australia or Taiwan). I would say we have a 50-50 chance against Australia but it is totally unpredictable against Taiwan as my players would have more experience playing against Australian players compared to the Taiwanese players. Making to the semi-finals is a decent result but ideally I hope we could put up a strong challenge and make it to the finals.

jump: In first match Thailand have to play with Singapore I think this is importance match for Thailand to get second rank in Group A because everyone knew China will get Rank 1 in Group A by the way I believe Thailand can go to Final Round if we do the best !!

deL: This first week is going to be a real litmus test for a lot of these teams and the competition. The unknown quantities of the Chinese and Taiwanese lineups, as well as the unseen strength of the underdogs in Malaysia and Philippines will make for some interesting results. I am excited in particular to see the heavyweight matchup of Azz vs SEn and I think that could set the pace for the rest of the match. If Azz can pull an inspirational upset - which he is more than capable of - the rest of the team is going to be inspired to put in that little bit more so the effort of taking down SEn doesn't go to waste! All of the players are very comfortable on their maps of choice, and most are very comfortable with the matchups so I trust them to play their best and if they do that we're a sure win with that lineup. My one worry is that mOOnGLaDe being the gentleman he is will not give his match against female gamer luway his all, though I am sure Kelly will be watching closely and if he shows he is going soft on luway, her jealousy will make GLaDe close out the series I won't predict a score because I don't like making predictions about my own team, but I expect a victory whether it's hard fought or one-sided.

I hear a lot about Taiwan having a strong lineup but nothing's certain yet. My only definite pick for this group is Australia as I think New Zealand and the Philippines have much improved lineups from last season and could potentially sneak a spot. As for Australia, I'd be lying if I said I'd be happy with anything other than a grand finals appearance so hopefully everything goes smoothly.

That's a pretty scary looking lineup from Australia! :D

I think there will be good fight between Australia and China for first place and third place will probably be a tossup between Singapore and Taiwan.

Haha, I pretty much exclusively watch SEA tournaments nowadays in the hopes of catching mOOnGLaDe play or commentate to be honest.

Couple this with the fact that I visit sc2sea on a regular basis, rank money earnings for players on a separate website, and enter SEA tournaments in the TLPD and boom you have a person who's at least somewhat knowledgeable about the SEA scene. After this happens, you can easily differentiate between the good players, the sub-par players, and the SEA stars.

Besides, the SEA community is just a lot more likable in general. There's more personality and a lot less fluff IMO. At the high levels, it seems like it's just a large group of friends fucking around with each other and it's fun to watch. Guess this really isn't all that surprising seeing as there are like 5-6 big clans in the SEA region that most top players are affiliated with.

The last in our two part pre-season interview series features Team Managers wulongStroM(OrzRush), Navi, CCMGoMaX and Timber

Q1: Who do you think is the strongest team to win this Nation War League and why?

wulongStroM: China is the strongest team of this Nation war league because they have xiaot, jim, comm and Xigua.

Navi: In my opinion, I feel that the strongest team overall would have to be Team Australia - Their line up gives me nightmares, not gonna lie haha but in all honesty, they have a very very strong line up of high profile, consistent SEA players who I think will definitely make it far in this season.

CCMGoMaX: I feel the pro team from China will win the Nation War League because the Chinese progamer's ladder points on the Korean server are much higher than the other players from other countries apart from Korea.

Timber: Since I'm not familiar with the players from China and Taiwan, i would choose Australia as the favourite since SEA season 2 scene is pretty much dominated by their players.

Q2: Are you happy with your team selection and if you had to pick your 3 star players who will they be?

wulongStroM: I am happy with my team selection, and I will pick the 3 star players of my team as Sen, luway and HuiStorM. HuiStorM is lesser known but when plays against the best he will become stronger. He even beat july before!. He is also known as XpecIMHui.

Navi: Overall, I'm pretty happy with the NZ team selection - I've come to know most of the players in the team and everyone is pretty cool =]. If I had to pick our top3 stars, I would have to pick Master, Jazbas and Kowi who need no introduction (with Finest being up there also). Unfortunately, Wild and Azazel decided not to play in the qualifiers for the team so thats one hit that the NZ team has taken off the bat, however, NZ has a number of players slowly coming up the ranks and I look forward to seeing how much they can develop under the guidance of our top4.

CCMGoMaX: I'm glad to take part in this tournament and if I had to chose 3 players, maybe they would be: CCM.xigua, CCM.xiaot and TylooJim.

Timber: I'm fairly satisfied with my team selection, I am glad that they have shown enthusiasm to play for their country. My top 3 players would be one from each race, Cobo, Oneplus and FoodDealer. Cobo can easily be the best protoss on SEA if he spend enough time on the game, Oneplus is by far the most reliable terran to field in any matchups, FoodDealer only have to quit HoN so that he can spend more time in SC2 and claim his crown as top Malaysian zerg.

Q3: How do you think you will fare in your first match this week, who are your picks for qualifying from your group and how far do you think your team can go?

wulongStroM: I can't predict our first match vs Australia but beacuse we have the best Taiwanese players in the Taiwan team we will go to top4 at least. I think for group A China and Thailand will advance and for Group B it will be Taiwan and Australia.

Navi: I think NZ should fare pretty well against PH in our first week, totally excited for our matches this season as we plan to come out guns blazing =]!

As I mentioned earlier, Team Aus is pretty scary, I'd have to at least pick them for qualifying out of Group B. I think it will be a big toss up for the 2nd nation to qualify - I have a lot of respect and trust for Team NZ and believe they will go far in the season once again. NZ Fighting!

CCMGoMaX: All members of our Chinese team are getting ready for the match. We will beat other teams one by one till we become the champion.

Timber: I hope we will beat China, it will definitely lift some pressure off everyone's shoulder and hopefully qualify with either Thailand or Singapore, it is hard to decide between those 2! Having said that, it means i think Malaysia will qualify for the next round, taking down China will already satisfy me and my expectation from this nation war. from there onwards I can only hope we will win all the way.

Interested in seeing Australia, Taiwan and China go at it but tbh I don't know a lot about the other nations.. I'm really ignorant of the SEA scene lol
Hopefully China performs well! ;D I hope Sen and Luway play well too. It was ironic how I learned about Xigua while eating watermelon lol. I want to see more Xigua games!!

Replays? Like Nation Wars Season 1, they will be released, probably sometime this week like Wednesday, for people who have missed it. If you can't wait till then you can always watch the VODs! Substitutes? Remember the rule is a maximum of one substitute per team but the player must have the same race and cannot already be playing in another match.

For those who missed the exciting first week, here is a recap brought to you by none other than... UncleTom!

You can also find ALL the replays from last week here!

NWS2 Week Recap by UncleTom

The second edition of SEA’s nation wars kicked off its first week on Saturday with New Zealand coming off a solid 3rd place finish in the previous nation wars coming up against the Philippines who are looking to make a bigger splash then there previous 6th place finish. Following this match heavy weights of the tournament China, expected winners played off against Malaysia, the team that had to go through the qualifiers to even make it into the pool play, even though China have some unknown players with the strength they showed during the Starwars tournament and there ability to dominate any video game they play Malaysia was in for a fight. On Sunday Thailand went up against the much favoured Singapore; with an improved line up from there 2nd place finish last season leaving Thailand needing more then just there ace RedArchon to perform. The highlight of this round was between the two favourites to take out the top two spots in group B Australia and Taiwan. Taiwan entering this tournament for the first time brings players that have been playing in a professional team environment in the TeSL that can only be rivalled by the likes of Korea, along with there superstar ace Sen. Australia themselves are no push over with a first place finish in nation wars 1 and top players like Moonglade the match was bound to come down to the wire.

New Zealand vs the Philippines started off on a bad note with master and reppa’s game disconnecting moving onto Jazbas vs Enderr but because Ender hadn’t arrived yet the first game started between Kowi and blazer. Kowi got New Zealand off to a strong lead with an easy 2-0 over Blazer with some creative warp prism immortal sentries’ drop, force fielding the ramp and destroying the main. Another got a solid 2:1 win over Fate, and then Finest in very poor form with sloppy play got destroyed 2:0 by Jabito. Master coming back from his computer lagging out against Reppa went into there series again crushing Reppa and about to go 1-0 up when he lagged out forcing Crimson to substitute leaving the Philippines with a shot at a come back, but strong macro play helped Crimson win 2-1 giving New Zealand the win at 3-1, then Jazbas putting the icing on the cake with a win against Enderr 2-1 for a convincing 4-1 win for New Zealand.

The next game Malaysia vs China was a match between the favourite to win the tournament and the underdogs who had to go through the qualifiers to get into the tournament. The match started off strongly with oneplus having a large lead in a base race game, but he threw away his advantage and then did a scv, banshee, tank all in the next game to give his opponent tyloo a 2-0. Malaysia bit back the next game with renson having a back and forth series with vayhy but claiming the win with a proxy 2 gate on crevasse to secure 2-1 and evening the series making China look very mortal. FXOBoss replacing fooddealer then lost to syc easily leaving new FXO trainer partner Timber needing to save Malaysia from defeat but after two well executed gateway attacks from Xiaot, China cruised to a 3-1 lead ensuring victory. Cobo did play very well in the rubber match to make it 3-2 in the end showing Malaysia has a chance to upset some stronger teams.

On Sunday Thailand played Singapore. RedArchon and Oxygen’s game had been played the day before cause of timing issues resulting in a 2:0 for RedArchon. Giving Thailand the 1-0 lead but it was all down hill from there with Singapore taking the next 4 games giving them an easy 4-1 win.

On to the final match of the round Australia vs Taiwan. A disappointing started to the match with Sen pulling out of the leaving GamaniaSlam as a replacement followed by Azz being replaced by iaguz. Iaguz showed his strong macro play in a 2-1 series win with solid marine tank play. Next game, the superstar of Australia, SEA’s greatest player Moonglade was up against Luway a female protoss player. As calls from the commentators of a free win for Moonglade a quick WTF followed as the greatest of SEA players got rolled by a girl 2-0. Deth got cleaned up 2-0 by HRU, but Edge cleaned up Dus 2-0 bringing the score to 2-2. With the scores all locked up it all came down to the ace match between YoonJY and Softball, with a display of the new mech style softball set up the victory for Taiwan with a 2-0 leaving the final score at 3-2 to Taiwan.

+ Show Spoiler [Week 3 Recap by nirvAnA] +

The final week of Nation Wars started with Group A with China vs Singapore and casting by mezza and Guest Pros sheepy, and dementia. China had been looking less then dominant with two narrow 3-2 victories over Singapore and Thailand so many people were looking forward to this matchup. However, this time Singapore chose to field a fresher lineup with new talents mera, escapist, jaff and "King of Kembangan" Dementia having a run out. Things didn't go so good for Singapore but their Fei fei Wanton Noodle King Dementia managed to take the only map in Singapore's 0-5 (1-10) defeat. Meaning while Thailand beat Malaysia convincingly. It was yet again Malaysia's star Cobo who managed to get the sole point for Malaysia. Cobo managed to help Malaysia win all their matches vs China, Singapore and Malaysia and bows out as Malaysia's undisputed MVP this season.

There were no surprises in Group B as tournament favourites Australia beat Philippines convincingly 4-1. Philippines star player and TGX winner who will be representing them in the TGX expo in Singapore, "Ender" took out recent City Hunter Sydney Lan Champion MaFia 2-1 to give Philippines their only game. In the other match of Group B, Taiwan once again showcased their dominance with a 4-1 victory over New Zealand. The best female Starcraft player in the world, luway aka slayer of glade, surprisingly lost her match against NZ zerg Flaunt to give New Zealand their only victory.

+ Show Spoiler [Week 2 Recap by Cute] +

Singapore vs Malaysia started off week two of the Neolution Nation Wars. EveJaff started the night on a high for the Singaporean squad, beating greenwood 2-0 on Xel’Naga Caverns. Malaysia were quick to even the score however as Nirvana, being the kind person he is, decided that both teams deserve to win a game. Not sharing the same mindset as their team mate, SG zerg players Revenant and ice quickly dispatched oneplus and ryper (2-0 in both games) before Renson forfeited the final game, leaving the final score at 4:1 Singapore’s way.

After a few short delays, China and Thailand played off in a series that went down to the very last game. Indy took the first game for Team Thailand, before Va.YHY and iG.CoMM reclaimed the lead for China. A walkover proceeded to even the series up for a second time. An ace match between Tyloo.Uhen and Strafe went 2-1 to Uhen giving China their second win, and leaving Malaysia currently winless.

A clash spanning the Tasman Sea was the theme for the week’s third match. As Australia and New Zealand like to compete at pretty much anything, be it Starcraft, drinking games or sheering sheep, things were bound to get interesting fast.

Australia got off to a flying start, and never really slowed down. Tgun, Azz and Rossi all took down their opponents (Haze, Kowi and Master, respectively) without dropping a single game. It was not until the fourth match when New Zealand’s JazBas finally claimed a win for their side, edging out Edge (lame, I know) 2-1. Unfortunately for the New Zealand side, they had already lost the match at this point. In the final game, Light defeated Another 2-0, giving Australia their first win in this season’s Nation Wars.
Although Australia was indeed the favorite, the final results were surprisingly one sided (contrary to what some Australian players will tell you, only dropping a total of two games was, in fact, a surprise)

A protoss heavy team from Taiwan proved to be to strong for the zerg heavy Philippines. Blazing through the four sets while only dropping a single game, Taiwan looked nearly unstoppable until EnDerr managed to shut down Bai 2-0, putting the Philippines on the board. But it was too little, too late for the island nation.

glade I have avenged you!!

In other news, Taiwan was super strong, MaFia told me wulong was 165-10 last season on TW and it really showed in his games. Was inspiring to see Sen in action, well played Taiwan and GL in the finals!

Australia vs China is gonna be sick!

Its going to be interesting for more than one reason haha, some political tension and ALOT of Starcraft 2 pride an $1,200 on the line. Don't think these countries ever played in SC2, and not sure when they last played in SC1! Not to mention sick lineups with XiaoT, Sen, MacSed, Xigua, Wulong. Hope to have a good friendly battle on the finals day, 3rd September.

Btw all the results and replays are out.

3rd Placing Match - 4pm, Saturday, 3rd September
Singapore vs Australia

Finals Match - 6pm, Saturday, 3rd September
Taiwan vs China

Format for finals / 3rd/4th placing is slightly different. There will be 7 sets of BO3s. For the final match, every match will be shown.

For the 3rd/4th placing, only two matches will be streamed. The first 4 set of matches will be played at 4pm, the most exciting one will be streamed and the other 3 matches will start concurrently. The second 3 set of matches will be played at 5pm, with again the most exciting one be streamed while the other 2 matches played concurrently. This is because of time constraints and wanting to have the finals / 3rd placing match on the same day back to back.

I don't think it really matters. Every Chinese player won 2-0, and one set was forfeit by the Taiwanese player, so it was 4-0 even before the 4-0. But if you're really curious...

XpecIMHui <GSL Crossfire SE> Tyloo.Jim 2-0 (PvP)
XpecIMGow <MLG Tal'darim Altar LE> iG.MacSed 2-0 W/O (?vP)
GamaniaSlam <GSL Dual Sight> iG.CoMM 2-0 (ZvZ)
TtApolloBall <MLG Shattered Temple> iG.XiGua 2-0 (TvZ)
TtApolloHRU <GSL Terminus SE> VA.XunYou.YHY 2-0 (PvZ)
wulongStorM <MLG iCCup Testbug> Tyloo.Uhen
XpecIMFZJ <Antiga Shipyard> VA.XunYou.Syc

Was kinda disappointed that Softball (TtApolloBall) did not play better. Don't know how well he'd do in NASL, now.
