Today we are pleased to announce the next European Console League LAN event, ECL Loughborough also known as ECL3.
ECL3 will take place at Loughborough University from the 30th-31st July. ECL's summer event will include two solid days of gaming and socialising with pre-registration taking place on the Friday evening.
A HD channel featuring StarCraft 2 exclusively. Guiding viewers throughout the weekend will be none other than Europe's most experienced StarCraft 2 casting duo, TotalBiscuit and Apollo. Joining them will be one of the UK's most knowledgable StarCraft community members, Leon.
If you prefer a more live experience Starcraft will have its own dedicated stage with plenty of seats to come watch the action live throughout the weekend with a chance to meet your favourite casters and players. You can purchase a spectator ticket out our store Here
Do you know who is going to be casting? As I said i'm definatley going to enter as Loughborough is my home town, so its worth the trip to see people.. Would be good if you could get Vequeth or one of the other good UK casters involved.

I can't confirm who will be casting yet as awaiting contact for casters but will give away this that SC2 will have it own dedicated stage so there will be action going on throughout the 2 days.

Btw guys - as I am originally a product of the lovely Loughborough before I escaped to greener pastures, I'd be happy to arrange to get everyone down for a few drinks! Would be good to have a UK Starcraft meet up.

Hes right, the Loughborough University sports deathball a move is ridiculous.
But in all seriousness if people do want to have a get together if we get any down time from the tournament I think that would be awesome. I think most of the UK starcraft community in one place is a pretty rare occurence.
So happy to be hearing about this, need to get in contact with my friend in Loughborough to see if he can give me a place to stay for the Saturday night, if so I am 100% there. Can I just confirm that the £25 fee for the Sc2 tournament includes access over both days as a spectator for when we aren't playing? I presume so but just wanted to double check

Hey, im not so good at SC2, but i and some friends have been to FIFA lans before, and i might be coming to the ECL event for the FIFA side of the event. Any knowledge if Bazza or ChrissyB will be showing up?

I'm not sure but I wouldn't be shocked if they had some presence at the event. Best head over to http://www.decerto.net but if you do come make sure you come watch the SC2 Stage and say hi.
Out of interest what is there from a spectator side? I know this is the first event you have done SC2 at and its not the main attraction in the eyes of the opperators jusdging from prize pool. All that is fine, jjust wondering if there will be a dedicated large screen to view the starcraft, or if it theres one screen rotating events etc.
Basicly if i go to watch the starcraft how much will I see?

Dedicated SC2 stage tier seating with a big screen and some well known casters that we are hoping to announce soon. Bar small half hour breaks you can expect SC2 action for the rest of it. Also you will be able to view the non-stage by standing behide the players.
Woop thats me signed up for FIFA tourney!! Will of course come and watch all of the SC2 when im not playing/out looking forward to seeing you all there
EDIT: @Bakor, any idea if Parking is free on campus for us mate? im driving few of us down and wondered?
Pandemona: There should be free parking on site but may be a little walk from the venue, cause it up to the campus on where the free parking is shouldn't be more than 5/10mins max.
Just updated the original thread with our casters announcement.
European Console League? And then organize PC lans, I heard they still owe all their prize-money from previous events to players. Plus they have no experience in PC.
Their name really makes sense when they are doing SC2. Heard their first event was good at Liverpool and their second event looked bad on the stream. I might attend it if i got the money together and could someone explain to me what is there for the spectators at this event?
Also who is funding these events just out of curiosity?

Of course they have experience with PC they are all PC gamers, ECL have hired experience SC2 admins like myself to advice. As far as i'm away all money has been paid off.

The company is all self funded and sponsored, For speactors there will be replay (old scool games section) aswell as two stages for one SC2 & one console. SC2 stream is HD and should be of very good quality.
Thinking about heading up there for the weekend - few quick questions:
When will the players be announced?
When will the schedule be released? I'm not sure if I can make it both days and want to make sure that Sunday won't be just a half day of SC2 or anything like that.
Lastly: Will tickets 100% be available at the door or will they need to be purchased online beforehand?

yeah sort of a grey-shade ... and the ingame music is way too loud ... btw. first time seeing TB after listening to his stream for somw months now => :D sry m8
im sad at the poor production value of this event? why can tb put on his own show better then the majority of these small/undedicated leauges and tornements
The latest tests look significantly better than the first match, but are still quite dark. Almost like there is a gray translucent filter overlay. Also, in the first match the left edge of the screen was cut-off.
Okay so it seems that the production crew is having tourble finding a good setting to stream at that works well for both frame rate and still looks pleasing to watch. I have a few suggestions:
First your gamma is too high, and contrast looks to be off aswell. Blacks should be very dark and whites should be bright, the fog of war should be dark but you should still be able to make the terrain out clearly while looking through it.
As for frame rate, Move all your settings to low and start turning things up. My suggestion is to stop trying to blanket "High" every setting. many can be turned down without sacrificing anything on the viewers end
Shaders medium lighting low shadows medium
This makes very minimal difference to the untrained eye and increases frame rate on most systems dramatically
Fullscreen(windowed)
Almost all casts are done with this setting as far as I'm aware
PostProcessing: low physics: low (if you don't have a physX card or a high end AMD you probably shouldn;t be running higher)
and pretty much everything else doesn't matter. Terrain and textures I'd suggest you keep around the same setting, be it high or med.
As for making the stream work with everything else, I have no idea, I just noticed some frame rate problems on 1080p and these small changes should help fix that, I have no idea how much tinkering has been going on but I'm just throwin in my 2 cents, whether it helps or not, so please, don't berate me for these obvious suggestions
Apollo and I are really sorry about this guys. Unfortunately we are just the casters and this isn't our equipment, it's entirely out of our hands. We are trying our best.

You guys are doing a great job. I'm just surprised that despite having hardware issues and being a much smaller operation, your SCI2 still had much much higher production quality. I have a new appreciation of your tournaments!
Edit: I am, however, really disturbed when you look in to the camera while drinking from your water bottle. Just saying.
It's very late but I would like to know that ECL staff are reading this thread and we are working on the issues, This is our first event with PC included and yes there is some issues. We appreciate that people have bared with the issues. Some we have fixed but others we can't (for this event) we want to keep a working stream even with the minor issues as we have some exciting games coming tomorrow with a lot less downtime. We will review all feedback.
I am saddened by the fact that the commentating is superb and very enjoyable, but it's all let down by the production issues. Scaling problems, audio problems, and this dreaded gray mist on the actual games. I do still enjoy the event, and the little interviews are a very welcome addition to the tried and true recipe. I would love to call the issues as "small" but it's not that small.
