Wc3 was a fantastic competitor event, maybe I'm biased since that was from my background. It has provided us with a fair amount of good sc2 players.
I believe it was a decent competitor sport, but not a good spectator competitive sport whatsoever, too many unit specific spells one had to familiarize one's self with along with the uses of those spells along with the lack of dynamics of the game such as economy and general strategic moves

Well, they cast from a TV studio that's been working with Starcraft for years upon years, whereas MLG just picked up star2 last year, and move from venue to venue, so any technical difficulties mostly have to be dealt with on the spot. Plus much, much more computers being used at MLG.
