The stream is LQ flash-stream where the browser falls back in case you don't have Octoshape installed. It is streamed via Akamai (_the_ premier content delivery network) and they have a ton of capacity to handle live streams unlike (apparently) Octoshape.

It bums me a lot that MLG haven't got their stuff together considering the huge amount of funding they received from VCs. Don't really understand their decision still to continue using Octoshape even after all the problems that have been reported to them on previous occasions - and especially use it exclusively in HQ stream. Akamai's delivery costs are considerably higher than Octoshape's, but where in earth they are planning to use all the freaking dollars they got - the live streaming from the events is in the core of their business that I don't quite understand their decision making with regards to tech choices..
