Rules: - Australia and New Zealand residents only.
- Observers allowed upon agreement from both players.
- The maps will be Lost Temple (RO64), Kulas Ravine (RO32), Scrap Station (RO16), Steppes of War (RO8), Blistering Sands (SF) and Metalopolise (GF) in the first game, and subsequent maps will be chosen by the loser from the maps listed here.
- Random is allowed.
- Choosing race for a specific matchup is allowed but mutually exclusive matchups will revert to their main race.
- In the case of more than 64 signups, the later signups will be backup players.
- In the case of More than 32 players but less than 64 players, 48 players will be used with the rest being backup.
Donators have promised $150 to the placing players and I have donated $25 myself.

Filthy is from WA.
There were a lot of pros in vic/nsw during the wc3 days, curious to see how the spread goes in sc2.

THE NEXT STEP
From here I will be releasing a bracket next weekend to give players 1 week to get in touch with their opponent and get in some cheeky practice. I will make a separate thread for the brackets.
The process by which I will form brackets is as follows:
Four groups of 16 players will be isolated and I will try to ensure a roughly even spread of states/countries and races as possible. In each of these groups will be two 'seeded' players, such that #1 and #8 seed are in a group, #2 and #7 are in another group, etc. The seeds will be determined by a combination of 'ELO' rating and winning % as by starcraftrankings.com at the time. I know this is not 100% accurate but without previous tournaments there is no way to seed you guys.
These 4 'groups' will simply form parts of the bracket in the Round of 16, and matchups inside these brackets will be randomly distributed in a normal double elimination bracket format - with the exception that the seeds will be on opposite sides.
Additional names will be added to the backup list. Additionally the last 6 people to sign up may be relegated to the reserve list if the players who were not 100% on whether they could make it inform me that they 100% can. However, you will move to 'first in line' in the reserve list if this happens to you - in order of when you signed up.
Around the same time I set up a bracket I will be looking for casters. I am undecided whether I will just get RO16 or RO8 onwards cast live, one game at a time; or whether to have several streams covering 2 or 3 different matches at the time; or whether to have one or two streams going right from the start following the notable players like they do for ZOTAC. Feedback encouraged!
Finally some rules to point out
- No BM, of course. In-game chat is allowed but if you feel someone is being overly offensive please report it.
- You must be a resident OR citizen of Australia or New Zealand. Remember to let me know if you are an ex-pat living overseas just so there is no confusion or accusations later on.
- I will try to deal with problems and formulate the brackets as fairly as possible so please don't complain if you feel you were hard done by - I hold no biases here and anything that seems unfair I promise is completely random.
- Payment of the prize will be by Direct Deposit (preferred) but if really necessary I can use PayPal, though this technology hates me and I never really got the hang of it so it's not my fault if all the prizemoney vanishes into the aether T_T Also I guess it can be cash if you live near Newtown.
- In the case of technical issues or other postponements I will nominate some 'backup dates' that work for the casters as well as the players and the games must be completed within these timeslots if rescheduling is required.
- Will add more as I think of them...

I'd be careful to keep having a close look at the ladder deL, cos if it resets(which is schedualed for very soon) it's going to be real dodgy seeds if the ladder has only been going again for 1 or 2 days. So i'd maybe take a list now just as a backup incase it resets?

Feel free to discuss your pool Also, none of the groups have more than 1 of a certain race or location different to another. The location distribution ignores seeds, though.

That's the point of an open tournament. Otherwise it would be an invitational! You might come up against another bronze leaguer first round
However if you really would prefer to have a Platinum player in there Wretched who was on the unconfirmed list is interested in playing - he would have been a seed if he were sooner so he would replace you.

Yeah just get there on time - you will only be waiting around 15-30 minutes tops to find out whether you will be playing or not. It's important to be contactable so I suggest IRC or be logged on to BNET because if I go to grab a reserve player and I can't PM you on one of those I will move on to the next one to keep the tourney going.

Still double elim normal brackets. The Pools are more of a teaster seeing I won't release the full brackets so early. It gives you a chance to speculate about who the threats in your quarter of the bracket are and who you might come up against n_n

Yeah the thing is also that lots of the BW community was fractured because the beta was closed but it will be reunited with the actual game so the playerbase of people who already know each other from SC1 will be at least double what it is now.

I notice it says random is allowed, but I was wondering if there was a deadline for submitting your chosen race or if it could be changed. If the brackets are going to be up in advance, I guess they may be locked in case people want to practice vs. their first opponents race.

WOW after seeing the generosity of these new members I am starting to think the veterans from SoO days are taking my efforts for granted! This really helps the legitimacy of the tournament and gives the players something to practice for.

I think it'd be best for anyone thinking of donating to save up and wait for future tournaments where there might be more exciting themes or even more signups
It's a perfect amount for this tournament, and the tourney size. I'd feel guilty about not being able to fit the reserve players in if there was even more money on the table.

Keep in mind with 96 there will be 32 BYES and then a preliminary RO64. Just wanted to know if people feel that it's fair as I will be picking seeds who get byes pretty arbitrarily seeing there was a ladder reset.

I honestly think that the no shows will be less... well at least more percentage will show up than some of the Aus/NZ starcraft1 tournaments. Just a hunch.

I used to commentate Company of Heroes, I can MAYBE commentate some SC2 (althoguh I've got to study the not Terran matchups to make sure I'm not just saying what's going on screen, gotta give some of that sweet sweet strategic musings). A few of my friends might be able to help out as well, if they are interested (and it's quite probably that they won't, just putting it out there)
EDIT- should probably also point out that I'll commentate games if I get knocked out of the tourney, which is probably what's going to happen.

Kev and I are good commentators. We were good when we commentated these 2 guys playing starcraft 2... it was mainly me yelling at them both and him laughing and then talking about how good this bowl-cut singer and his friend were while i abused him for his asianness.
We also commentate HoN as we play. Kev only types about his sex life ;o

A little doubt over casters at the moment - I am still waiting on a reply from Toby from gamestah but do have a solid backup caster who is pretty keen.
But seeing it's on a Sunday arvo there's no real option for recording and then casting later at least if we want aussie viewers, and casting live has the problems of less US viewers and also the possibility of players cheating off a stream.
So I'll put it to vote or you can suggest another method

Racepicking is allowed, though it two mutually exclusive racepickers meet the ‘main’ race will be used – that is the race that features in most of their matchups. If all 3 races are represented by a racepicker a present admin will choose their race.
