I think a huge 2v2 tourney the size of the TSL would get boring to watch.

Maybe a 2v2 invitational would be a better option, but there aren't more than 2 or 3 famous 2v2 teams. You'd have a job finding 8 2v2 teams that everyone would enjoy watching.

Well a good way to find other quality 2v2 teams would be a ladder stage I think. Then you get the mix of unknown / known teams in the elimination round.

sounds like a neat idea, but do u think it would get as much highlights as the 1v1, and how would you have them set up that people both in 1v1 can play 2v2 or just pick 1 or the other

NO ITS just that 2v2 is fun, and imo fun to watch. it is really a cool untapped part of starcraft, you see a lot of cool/innovative strats in 2v2 that you dont see so much in 1v1

This would be great. In addition to the fact that I enjoy playing 2v2's, I have a lot to learn about the strategy, and watching them is fun. Perhaps for the next TSL we can have a parallel 2v2 TSL.

so... have you never said to yourself "hey .. why dont i go play some 2v2 myself to find out whether its fun or not" ? or do you need to wait for people to tell you to do everything ? o-o

this is the kind of "sheep" mentality I was referring to -.-;

If you can't think for yourself how are you even playing Starcraft in the first place? You find out yourself by trying it out, not by listening to others and taking their words as facts. Xeris nailed this one.

I agree. Nowadays with the huge macro games we see, 1v1 has changed a lot since the old days of mega micro intensive games that where always exciting and intense. 2v2 still retains this mentality of aggression and micro, however, that's why I like playing it and watching it as well! Plus, some people say DMZ was bad, but imo if a map with really short positions like that was implemented again, I would like it, because even as such a bad map it provided extremely entertaining games sometimes, because of all the hyper aggression with rushes and stuff. I love 2v2!!! <3

iirc this was attempted and there were teams, but eventually people just stopped showing up.

@op - Yes, I would be for this, but it would be watched far less than the 1v1, therefore a 2v2 TSL is not exactly feasible.

the problem with this is it would be MUCH harder to find the time to organize this properly, you now need 4 players ready to play on a certain day, adn the qualifiers would be hard as hell since you would need a set team and not everyone has a 100% set allie, and if you do it could be hard to find times to play the necessary amount of games to get into the top.

A nice 8 man invitational tournament could be nice though, maybe 4 invite and 4 earned spots with a qualifier or something? Nothing too spectacular. But if they were to do that i would attempt to play and would most certainly watch.

why would it have to be invitational? a ladder wouldnt be totally possible. Some of the top players in the TSL were relatively unknown and probably wouldnt have had a chance if it was invite only.

um no, they are only unknown to those who don't follow the foreigner scene.

We've had 'pro leagues' for ages now like WGTCL. There are many active 2v2 players.

that statement couldn't be more wrong. there were no real unknowns in TSL.. if you are familiar with the foreign scene, which obviously much of TL.net is not, then you would have known all the players.

for example... Dinot has been really good for about a year now, Brat was always really good but was inactive for a period, Iefnaij has been good forever, Dreiven has been monstrous in the past 6 months etc, Rondo has recently got real good...

so really there weren't too many surprise names.

Yes but I bet rondo and maybe even brat_ok probably wouldnt have gotten invited if TSL was invite only. You cant honestly say that all the people who qualified would have been the exact people admins would have invited.

Then it should be with randoms partners like in wc3 ladder 2on2..

I think if mondragon and testie played together they would win but if they got random partners I doubt they would be good enough to carry their partner

I'm a lousy player myself, but 2v2s are fun to watch. I'm afraid it'll be the same as in tennis, though: the great 1 v. 1 players don't bother with doubles, and the great doubles players get little attention. If some of the big names would play 2v2, that would be great.

I think the idea of having an invitational is good, invite like 8 teams and have 8 qualify? or 4 teams and 4 qualify? That'd be fun!

I think the truth is that there is a limited amount of effort and time that the admins we have can devote to running an event that will be as well run and organized as the first TSL, and a TSL 2 would be much more appreciated and attract more attention than a 2v2. Having some sort of 2v2 tournament would be fun but I don't think it should be of the same magnitude as TSL.

That said.... not even a bit of hype yet for TSL 2? Lets get it going before summer is over so people can play and not worry about school!!!!

I don't think a 2v2 TSL would work, but an invite tourney would be a nice idea and a qualifying tourney. =/

You put the cash there and you will get the gamers. I would play and promise entertaining games esp come the quaters.

Yes, if there was the cash, then there would be the gamers.
Actually, on second thought, you probably don't even need the cash. If it says TSL, then people will come. And play. And buy razer products (did you know that their 5.1 surround sound headphones do nothing for sc? ^_^ )

Yes I would =P

I like 2v2. I did have a partner and we made it to D+ but I haven't heard of him for awhile.

Oh well!
