However, if Koreans suddenly transitioned to SC2, then that's a different story. Foreigners stand no chance against Koreans who's average APM (noninflated) is above 250, no matter how much they've practiced in months.

the others TL players ... I am not so sure, it depends upon the Korean quality. If thousands of Korean participate in prelims ... it will be tough. Does anybody know if Sen will go? I think most of the major American/Euro players will not participate.

I mean, a more appropriate question will be "How many foreigners may qualify for the GSL?" I'm guessing at around 3-4. Few only because of the fact that they have to most likely fly to Korea to even participate in the first place, which may inconvenience a few players.

I really hope they don't have to eliminate each other. Sen's definitely getting in. Idra's definitely getting in. Team Liquid is getting in. If I was there I'd totally... err.. get in to the spectator's area.

I mean maybe all the best players gather but if everyone is terran that would be ...... you know what im trying to say. Of course i wish best of luck to the liquid team members trying to push their luck in korea btw hopefully they get a uniform so we can all buy it, wear it and laugh our ass if we meet irl. walking around in it have a nice day

Not to mention that the real best-of-the-best Korea has to offer still plays BW So chances are fairly good! EDIT: Had a :/ after the "still plays BW" sentence which doesn't even make sense should be a =DDD

I think that some foreigners really need to step their game up in order to compete with the extreme playstyle of some koreans though. Based on early beta form, I would have had even odds on White-Ra making it. No clue how likely Jinro is to make it, but I hope he does because he sounds like a nice guy. IMO if I ran a league I'd want to find a way to add TLO in. His play is exceptionally charismatic and that is what sells people. "Good" macro-heavy play is still more of a connoisseur's style of play. (Not to say that others aren't interesting...jaedong sen would definitely be on my must watch list).

If like 1000 Koreans show up for the prelims, it's going to be hard to navigate through the field to make the top 64. Especially if each round is a bo3 or (gasp) the earlier rounds are bo1. I hope for Idra/TLO's sake, rounds are at least bo3 and it would be sweet if it were double elimination. But who knows.

If they can not have any really strong opponents before hand, then i'd have to say that they stand a chance of getting in the GSL hands down. BW mechanics and different builds are somewhat plausible to use in SC2 because the same type of terrains like highgrounds and lowgrounds and ramps are still very well present and doesn't change much from one game to another, so if a player like Leta or any other decent BW pro league player decides to switch to SC2, then its over, Koreans are gonna own at SC2 like they currently own at BW. all in all, i'd say a 50~50 percent chances that atleast one foreigner qualifies for the GSL. only time will tell i guess.

In Brood War IdrA was (I think) the only one playing full time. In SC2 there's already TLO, Jinro, Nazgul and Haypro going to Korea. The western scene in general is much bigger, too.

But since the tournament is so inaccessible, only a few lucky ones with awesome sponsors (like TLAF) will have a shot. but the "lucky ones" aren't actually the lucky ones; they're some of the best of the foreigner scene hand picked, they earned that right with their skills. And considering how Koreans actually don't play SC2 at all nearly (I went to a PC bang and the manager said like... "you want to play SC2?? really?? uh its installed but no one plays")... I'm thinking there are going to be quite a few foreigners out there. But of course, i agree, they're not going to be "flooded".

What if something crazy, like the top 50 pros all make it and eek out a living in Korea. How badly would that pants the rest of the world, from an entertaining competition point of view?

excluding IdrA of course. He's been playing against Koreans day in and day out so he alone knows how to beat them probably... just saying that it may take some time for others to catch up to their style of play.

I think IdrA will make it, but i am a total fanboy so ya. I also expect Duckload to make it along with i hope SEN. It would be soooo sweet if Tyler and TLO were able to get in but i am not 100% sure on them. I bet at least one TL-player will make it, or at least i hope :D

I have to assume the field is going to be absolutely huge. I don't like their odds Considering the Prelims are in Seoul EVERY kid 12+ will be there especially with so much money. So the prelims are probably going to consist of 1350+ Kids 12-17 700+ Asian Diamond Adults 17+ 75+ Very good Koreans (top 200) 50+ Good Foriegners (top 1K on EU and NA conglomerate) 10+ Foriegner Pros (ie: TLO Idra etc) so I peg the attendance for players well in excess of 2250. I agree the sheer numbers suggest maybe one foreigner will get in, the numbers are stark. These are just numbers I pulled out from under my ass though so who knows how popular it will be. please note: + Show Spoiler + THESE ARE MY ESTIMATES BASED ON MORE ESTIMATES AKA NOT ACCURATE

There could be more, but there are 8X addresses in the to/cc field of my e-mail. Doesn't really matter as only 64 will make it and I doubt all will be the foreigners. =P

I uh... don't think I made it. I went 1-2 vs a crazy Terran. The guy was amazing with his micro but predictable so I beat him the 2nd round with Void Rays (I don't like using these), the 3rd round he just got me with my pants down... graph wise I had the upperhand, I just didn't use my men as well as he did. DOH! =( Heard about 15 foreigners showed up and like 4 (so far) placed in top 64. I may be able to get list of top 64. I was asked to return in November!! Let's hope I can train hard and put another foreigner in there!! Anyone want to add me? send PM!
