IdrA alone is close to definite, and anyone else is a bonus but still a strong possibility.

Not like there were many koreans in there. :p
But yeah, he will get into it. I'd love to see all the Liquid members in there too and they definitely have their chances.

Idra and TLO are as good as top Koreans.

Pre-balance-patch: definitely TLO in top 64

Post-balance-patch: definitely Idra in top 64

Thought it was a BW tourney at first, then I realized of course its a SC2 tourney. I would be surprised if foreigners didn't get in.

Wow, "a" non-Korean? That made this poll ridiculously easy. I'm sure at least one - with TL's support - will manage to at least qualify. The real question is:

I think there will be a lot of "good" foreign players in the GSL but in the top 64 there wont be too many, IdrA, TLO , jinro and nazgul are my top 4 picks. 5th being Tyler but he needs to get his priorities straightened out IMO

If what they say is true, and the Koreans, in general, aren't approaching SC2 as much as foreigners, then its quite obvious foreigners are going to qualify out of sheer number and luck.

However, if Koreans suddenly transitioned to SC2, then that's a different story. Foreigners stand no chance against Koreans who's average APM (noninflated) is above 250, no matter how much they've practiced in months.

idra does not count as a typical non-korean player in my eyes because he lives and trains with koreans.

IdrA for sure, and I think TLO has a real shot. Other than that though I think it's a bit up in the air. I mean I would love for players like Huk and White-Ra (or, I'm sorry, Duckload-Ra) to get in but I'm not sure how they'll do.

Depends on who participates. I am positive Idra will get in, but he has been under a Korean system for a long time now, it should be a given. Nony has the talent, but I haven't heard if he is going to try to qualify. White-ra is sort of in a slump and Dimaga has a lot of trouble facing terran. Outside of Idra the only person I see getting in without too much trouble is Sen.

Followup Poll should be "Did you think that G was an O?". Because thinking it said OSL made me scratch my head as to a silly poll question, but I hit a negative response all the same.

idra and tlo will definitely make it into the top 64.

the others TL players ... I am not so sure, it depends upon the Korean quality. If thousands of Korean participate in prelims ... it will be tough.

Does anybody know if Sen will go? I think most of the major American/Euro players will not participate.

I would like to see it happen, and certainly do see it as a possiblity. The TL Open kinda worries me though, where even HD Starcrafts vids had Tester only beaten by another Korean. But again, all's well ends well

It's a no-brainer with someone like Idra probably going to be entering.

I mean, a more appropriate question will be "How many foreigners may qualify for the GSL?"

I'm guessing at around 3-4. Few only because of the fact that they have to most likely fly to Korea to even participate in the first place, which may inconvenience a few players.

Yea that's a good point actually. I really hope they don't have to eliminate each other.

Sen's definitely getting in. Idra's definitely getting in. Team Liquid is getting in. If I was there I'd totally... err.. get in to the spectator's area.

hmm.. IdrA, Tyler could do it but good thing for koreans he is staying at home , and i would have high hopes for White RA... if he tried

I hope the GSL doesnt suffer to many terrans though... unlike the ESL. I mean maybe all the best players gather but if everyone is terran that would be ...... you know what im trying to say.

Of course i wish best of luck to the liquid team members trying to push their luck in korea btw hopefully they get a uniform so we can all buy it, wear it and laugh our ass if we meet irl. walking around in it

have a nice day

So far, you have the best foreigners playing while the best koreans are still sticking to scbw. We will probably see idra and tlo in there at least.

Well they got the shear numbers against them but in terms of skill I doubt foreigners are very far behind (people tend to forget that foreigners kept up well with the koreans until a few years into BW).

Not to mention that the real best-of-the-best Korea has to offer still plays BW

So chances are fairly good!

EDIT: Had a :/ after the "still plays BW" sentence which doesn't even make sense should be a =DDD

I dont think idrA counts as foreign at this point, certainly not in the context of SC2. Regardless, I can still see some TL player making it in.

I voted "more likely than not" because while some top korean players have insane apm and game senses, as well as aggressive play, some foreigners are also really good. Not seeing foreigners would be rather unfortunate, and could be detrimental to esports' popularity.

I think that some foreigners really need to step their game up in order to compete with the extreme playstyle of some koreans though.

I don't think any non Koreans are going to make it. Idra prolly has the best chance, but even still, he's been in Korea for 2 or 3 years now, has played maybe one or two televised games in the proleague, and never made it in to either one of the starleagues. Admittedly, sc2 is still new, so Korea hasn't had a chance to dominate the game yet, but a lot of sc1 mechanics are transferable, so I still think the Koreans are going to be miles ahead. I think GSL is gonna be all Korea, all the time.

Oof, I read this wrong. I thought it was will a non-Korean win, which I felt was doubtful.

I would be very surprised if a foreigner did not qualify.

Well there are only 4 foreigners living in korea (idra, tlo, haypro, and jinro) so why would anybody else have a chance? I would say idra and tlo will definitely get in, with a good chance going to haypro and jinro as well.

Eh Idra I don't think really counts as a foreigner. Of the "real" foreigners I would say TLO and Nony from their track record are the most likely to make it.

Based on early beta form, I would have had even odds on White-Ra making it. No clue how likely Jinro is to make it, but I hope he does because he sounds like a nice guy.

IMO if I ran a league I'd want to find a way to add TLO in. His play is exceptionally charismatic and that is what sells people. "Good" macro-heavy play is still more of a connoisseur's style of play. (Not to say that others aren't interesting...jaedong sen would definitely be on my must watch list).

It reallllly depends on the qualification system. From the GSL info given out, there doesn't seem to be ANY restrictions on who shows up to the offline prelims.

If like 1000 Koreans show up for the prelims, it's going to be hard to navigate through the field to make the top 64. Especially if each round is a bo3 or (gasp) the earlier rounds are bo1.

I hope for Idra/TLO's sake, rounds are at least bo3 and it would be sweet if it were double elimination. But who knows.

I'd love to see some non-koreans compete on a stage like that. Besides lots of potential out there.

i'm rather new to all of this so i don't know much about anything, i haven't been watching proleagues or starleagues for all that much of a period of time really, i voted "not very likely" because from what i've seen from videos off Youtube, i'd highly doubt that any foreigners, from outside of Korea, would manage to get past the pre-eliminaries, but then again, GSL being an SC2 SL, which to my knowledge would be the first ever, has a likelyhood chance of having half of the current foreigners in Korea to make it past the qualifications round if they go against weaker players than lets say Jeadong or Flash, Bisu i might add even, or Doctor_K for that matter.

If they can not have any really strong opponents before hand, then i'd have to say that they stand a chance of getting in the GSL hands down. BW mechanics and different builds are somewhat plausible to use in SC2 because the same type of terrains like highgrounds and lowgrounds and ramps are still very well present and doesn't change much from one game to another, so if a player like Leta or any other decent BW pro league player decides to switch to SC2, then its over, Koreans are gonna own at SC2 like they currently own at BW.

all in all, i'd say a 50~50 percent chances that atleast one foreigner qualifies for the GSL. only time will tell i guess.
For the SWARM!!!

GSL would be flooded with non-Koreans if all the best non-Koreans played the qualifier. But since the tournament is so inaccessible, only a few lucky ones with awesome sponsors (like TLAF) will have a shot.

I don't see why. In Brood War IdrA was (I think) the only one playing full time. In SC2 there's already TLO, Jinro, Nazgul and Haypro going to Korea. The western scene in general is much bigger, too.

I heard from one of the staffs of GSL that quite a large number of non-koreans have registered for the event, so chances are quite high

If going to Korea wasn't required to qualify I'd say something like 15-20. It will probably closer to 10 however.

I think that people are overestimating a bit the skill level of Koreans in SC2. Like Nony said, a number of top foreigners could qualify if they could actually make it to the tournament.

rofl @ anyone who said "no foreigners" b/c cmon... are you just assuming IdrA, TLO, and many others are just passing by this tourney like it's just another event?

they're one of the best in the world, and if they don't qualify... then god damn Korea has some sick players already

but the "lucky ones" aren't actually the lucky ones; they're some of the best of the foreigner scene hand picked, they earned that right with their skills. And considering how Koreans actually don't play SC2 at all nearly (I went to a PC bang and the manager said like... "you want to play SC2?? really?? uh its installed but no one plays")... I'm thinking there are going to be quite a few foreigners out there. But of course, i agree, they're not going to be "flooded".

well there is what is there 64 spots?? i doubt 63 players are better than idra esp since he beat tester and inca recently in tournies and is doing quite well for himself. TLO and (jinro?) are going to be practicing with ogs which are top in korea and definately going to qualify so even if idra dimaga sheth morrow and the tons of other great players dont make it TLO will stand a good chance

Top 64 Korea is definitely not at a higher level than top foreigners. Each foreigner playing the GSL is a top 64 player with ease at the event. Variance makes it very likely that at the very least one qualifies but more than likely multiple.

Yeah, I honestly don't see how not even a SINGLE foreigner could make it. I just hope the koreans don't end up cheesing like crazy in the preliminaries.

Well... since there aren't a lot of foreigners residing in Korea... there should only be a few who qualifies. I do hope everyone from TL will qualify

I wonder if Artosis and d.Apollo will also try.

Have any top foreigners confirmed they are going to the event?

What if something crazy, like the top 50 pros all make it and eek out a living in Korea.
How badly would that pants the rest of the world, from an entertaining competition point of view?

'Not very likely'

excluding IdrA of course. He's been playing against Koreans day in and day out so he alone knows how to beat them probably... just saying that it may take some time for others to catch up to their style of play.

As said aprox. 80 times before me, there will for sure be a foreign player in it.
I think IdrA will make it, but i am a total fanboy so ya.
I also expect Duckload to make it along with i hope SEN.
It would be soooo sweet if Tyler and TLO were able to get in but i am not 100% sure on them.

I bet at least one TL-player will make it, or at least i hope :D

With this much money on the line there's gonna be hundreds of Korean kids playing in the qualifiers. Idra's record on the Asian server is far from fantastic and he's easily the best foreigner.
It's really hard to call but by sheer odds I expect someone will make it. I don't expect much beyond that though.

Hard to say without knowing how many foreigners are participating or how the brackets will be made.

I have to assume the field is going to be absolutely huge. I don't like their odds

Considering the Prelims are in Seoul EVERY kid 12+ will be there especially with so much money. So the prelims are probably going to consist of
1350+ Kids 12-17
700+ Asian Diamond Adults 17+
75+ Very good Koreans (top 200)
50+ Good Foriegners (top 1K on EU and NA conglomerate)
10+ Foriegner Pros (ie: TLO Idra etc)

so I peg the attendance for players well in excess of 2250. I agree the sheer numbers suggest maybe one foreigner will get in, the numbers are stark. These are just numbers I pulled out from under my ass though so who knows how popular it will be.

I got the e-mail with about 86 foreigners listed. I'm sure there will be half of Korea there, lets hope not, because I don't want to wait around all day. I have a few friends coming that will take pics and stuff. I will post them up (if they allow us to take pics).

It was just sent out to "foreigners" about being picked up from Airport and escorted to hotel (pretty awesome they would do this). I'm here because I'm military so I don't have to fly. I did have to put down USA on the form, they didn't have actual resident location so I guess they clumped me in with them. =)

There could be more, but there are 8X addresses in the to/cc field of my e-mail. Doesn't really matter as only 64 will make it and I doubt all will be the foreigners. =P

nahhh he said "about" which means... wait, that's a good point! why, "about 86"? was it 86 or you just stopped counting then?

IdrA, Morrow and Dimaga are some people to think of. Huk's play lately has been excellent so possibly him, I just haven't seen him beat too many amazing pro players, he got wrecked in the KoTB.

Well... I went! I arrived late because of incorrect directions haha, so glad they weren't too strict. There was maybe 50 people there tops (Sunday).

I uh... don't think I made it. I went 1-2 vs a crazy Terran. The guy was amazing with his micro but predictable so I beat him the 2nd round with Void Rays (I don't like using these), the 3rd round he just got me with my pants down... graph wise I had the upperhand, I just didn't use my men as well as he did. DOH! =(

Heard about 15 foreigners showed up and like 4 (so far) placed in top 64.

I may be able to get list of top 64. I was asked to return in November!! Let's hope I can train hard and put another foreigner in there!! Anyone want to add me? send PM!

My guess was that at least 4-5 foreigners would/would-have qualify/ied.
Did only 3 make it?
