Untitled Podcast: Episode One
Untitled Podcast: Episode One
With the number of updates to TL, things happening in the community and to Starcraft in general, we decided it was time for another podcast. This week we wanted to keep it pretty relaxed and talk about the things we like (drama) and dislike about the community.
This week we talk about
- - Drama. Why is the community taking steps back?
- - Copypasta Starleagues
- - Idrama vs Daniel Lee
- - Blizzcon and Beta Key contests
- - More drama
- - Who is King Ansadi? What is he really doing here?
- - Lots more
If you guys have feedback, criticism/suggestions etc we would like to hear it here. The audio this week is a little off (Chill louder than i am) but big thanks to BloodyCobbler for recording for us.
You can download this week's episode here Hint: Right click and save target as to avoid browser explosion!
- love Kennigit

feels like a little too much 'noise removal', hard to listen to in the beginning but eased out a bit, feel like you're talking through a tube as a result.
good listen

P.S. i am easy to impress

quality is much worse than the previous podcasts which were totally awesome but glad to see this making a return anyway.
|
Quality was totally my bad
I haven't used the program we used before, so I didn't swap the recording device to the best fit and used the default(its fixed now though )
So I apologize for the sound quality, but the cast is still enjoyable none the less.

Can someone PM me with how to save it? There is no save as far as I can tell.

Kennigit coined 'idrama' and 'copypasta starleagues'? nice nice

Holy fucking shit (sorry for language).
I fucking DIED when you went on the Ansadi modulo rant.

Sweet someone should put this on youtube...
If anyone wants, I can make a video with that MP3 playing in the background with the words "TEAM LIQUID" on some picture while its playing or something.

the ending in the winner.
I know you guys said you weren't going to being doing it right now but I 100% like liquibition the most out of all of the teamliquid events. I think you guys always end up with a well polished/streamed/commented product that is enjoyable. After that I would like pro tl attack with TL having some sort of ranking which allows for some of the more notable teamliquid gamers to be put up against pro gamers, not just someone with a clever name. Field ret,idra,oystein,infernal,day[9], artosis, chosen, lzgamer, machine, shauni and any other of our higher ranked players would be more fitting for a pro tlattack rather then a non-korean one.
I love the insider scoopes on some of the intersite relations. They are fucking halarious.

AHAHAHA what the fuck Zatic
As far as Teamliquid's future endeavors - we've recently seen an insurgence of users coming out of the woodwork and translating going-ons in the Korean scene - interviews etc. It'd be cool if this could be an official Teamliquid project, to bridge the Korean and foreigner scene a little before Starcraft 2 comes out and sort of forces it together before it's ready. We have a number of users in Korea that are already involved in the Korean e-Sports scene, but they do it as a personal job separate from Teamliquid. It would be cool, although a bit lofty of an idea, if Teamliquid could get some sort of officiality in Korea besides the "oh yeah i've heard about it it's a pretty cool site imo." I know there was the whole spiel about money in e-Sports, but I feel that that's a stigma that has to do with the fact that, although we're on some level obsessed with e-Sports, we still possess the idea that it won't flourish in the foreign scene like it has in Korea.

damn this was realllly awesome, i enjoyed listening to this for sure. i kind of agree with AZ up there that a pro tl attack would be super awesome; except this time against top foreigners as he suggested because as awesome as having sea on tl.attack was - the games were pretty lackluster. i can imagine it would be fairly difficult to agree on a time because of the ridiculous time zones. iirc that tl.attack with sea was pretty early in the morning compared to normal tl.attack and it was really late in s.korea. nonetheless just an idea; good podcast and i cannnooot wait until the next one for sure!~ My favorite part is "one, two... *incoherant rambling* TEN! ten shots!"

I like the video casts. Both TL:A and liquibition have been really fun to watch. I think goofing around with foreigners in general is very entertaining.

great show guys. I'm wondering what you're recording this with? Skype + Pamela Recorder is golden for podcasts like this
edit: for gods sake, next time use Skype and Pamela Recorder. the increase in quality will be immense. PR is $20, but it's WELL worth the price

One thing to note though. It's not a big deal but 128kbps is kinda high for voice only... usually you can do <= 64 without much loss of quality and it's tolerable much lower than that.

Turned off halfways, couldnt take more "tl rocks" everyone else sucks attitude, just too much egosentric crap to handle.
I agree that most of the latest contents should be thought through better, but just sitting there throwing shit around, namecalling etc just strikes me as petty and lame. Why not use some of your experience to help other "new" tournements succeed, instead of just bashing on them.
|
This was great, thank you guys. Looking forward to the next one!

i listened to the first 5 minutes but there is a very unpleasent squealing sound in the backround, gave me a headache so i switched it off. Shame since the other ones were god like.

Why not use some of your experience to help other "new" tournements succeed, instead of just bashing on them. The problem is that Teamliquid.net is the best and has the best orgaznation for tournaments/projects/everything. We should be proud of TL.net and what it stands for. I don't think there is anything wrong that the peopel behind this site have a bit of a ego or be proud. There is nothing to be ashamed at here.
Look at everything TL.net has...
- Best Progaming coverage - TLPD - Liqubet - TSL - TL:Attact - Liqubition - Final Edits - Fantasy League - Latest VODS on VOD Tracker - Amazing Strategy forum - Wikipedia
Is it wrong to be proud of what Teamliquid.net has accomplished and that they are without a doubt the best non-korean Starcraft site?
|
Teamliquid is clearly the best community site out there, and they do have really good organization, and I agree that they should be proud, but I felt that that podcast was a bit over the top elitist. Its not that they promote themselves that annoys me, its the fact that they bash on everyone else. TL is a really big community site, and their opinions might influence alot of players/spectators etc, and when they hear here, that everything else that goes on in the community sucks ass, then its quite hurtful to the community, because besides from valor, what has been going on lately, is infact the sc2gg starleague, GOL-invitational and ASL.
Wow, they dont have as much prizes as us, lets make fun of them !
|
Its not that they don't have as much prizes as TSL or something like that but its the fact that SC2GG Starleague/ASL and its clones were all run badly. They were plagued with bad casting/late vods/lack of coverage and many other things that shouldn't happen in a planned and organized tournament. There was so many walkover and no-shows (and I don't remember that happening at all in TSL) and that showed the players didn't really care that much either...

Agreed, I was looking forward to all of the tourneys and even though I never had any expectations of getting the same level of coverage as TSL, I still was very much dissapointed with most of them. Even though I tried to follow them, I simply was unable to find recent results, replays or anything else until the finals. Also some of them streched out for so long I totally lost interest.
|
It's not like Kenningit and Chill flat out said "TL is the best site ever and everyone else sucks". They just gave their thoughts and criticism on how poorly all the other tournaments were run. Even if its a voluntary thing to begin with, there is still a standard as to how things should be done. All they did was point out where things went wrong and things to think about next time they do something like this.
TL is a great site/community because everything it does sets or meets the high standard, nothing gets half-assed like the stuff they pointed out in the podcast.

I agree about TL Attack that would be great. On the one hand its theoretically so cool to have a korean progamer do it, on the other hand its so boring when the games are ridiculously one-sided so having top-foreigners play against them would be amazing. Maybe even with some kickass team melee team to really challenge the pro gamer.
Surely this would be hard to arrange though.

The prize money wasn't the focus really. I don't know at what point you stopped listening but the essence of what they were saying was that people should spend a bit more time planning these things. Rules, brackets, maps, testing broadcasts, testing connections, who is handling making sure players rock up on time, having your best casters cast etc. etc.
|
The biggest new in this podcast to me was the possibility of Blizzard moving into "ESPORTS". Sure, the people who already have a stake in this might not like what Blizzard could do. But nothing is stopping Blizzard from reserving all the rights to their own game. It's hard to imagine what the future is like, or whether this could be profitable outside Korea, but if it does, you can be sure Blizzard will make a move.

Why not use some of your experience to help other "new" tournements succeed, instead of just bashing on them. If you read the SC2GG Starleague thread, I helped all I could, and I think they took a lot of the advice even though the coverage and stuff flamed out towards the end.
But they did not even shoot me a single PM asking for any help before they went ahead and launched a project with very poor planning. A lot of the issues they had could have been fixed if they spent 10 minutes talking to me or Kennigit. It is not our job to ask others "hey are you running a starleague today, do you mind me looking over the newspost?" It's their responsibility to go seek advice, and foolish of them (they as in anyone who runs a poor tournament) to not spend just 10 minutes talking to people who have experience in it.
That said, not everyone can be successful running their first tournament. I think GOL, SC2GG, and even ASL will improve greatly if they ever run a second one.

I know that we learned a lot at GoL and definitely it will help a lot moving forward into future events.

The SC2GG Tournament was run poorly. It started so well. It was the first try, and you learn some things from that. Having a $10000 prize also helps prevent no-shows. Being part of something people care about also helps. The TL-centric attitude of things helps TL and creates a, "Well, it's not TL, whatever!" sort of response. It doesn't help the other places.
We'll try again, that's for sure. Things will be run better the next time. Hot_Bid doesn't lie, btw. It'd be nice if everyone stopped being a douche to each other. Maybe that's what the future will hold.
BTW, the Wikipedia thing is pretty cool. Good job.

Perhaps they were just fed up with TL, considering the amount of effort we put into banning them, and the attitude they take towards things.

This was a pretty worthless and shit podcast episode, we all know how bad sc2gg is already without needing an hour long diatribe about them. I downloaded this in hopes of hearing about actual Starcraft news(as in previous TL podcasts, which were great), instead all I heard was some stupid drama and faggotry in low quality audio to boot. And no, I am not a sc2gg supporter/fan either, I stopped visiting their website months ago when they stopped producing worthwhile content.

I liked how this podcast was more about drama and random patter than SC shit, which I can read here on the site at my leisure.
I agree with what you said about the TL:A being sort of replaced by the various mogulus streams, therefore my vote goes to reviving liquibition. But you should make liquibition more of an event.. because some of the episodes were really abrupt (the one with Day9 casting comes to mind). What I mean by this is more discussion and analysis during the liquibition rather than just skipping ahead to the next game until the series is done.
I hope to see more of this randomness!
P.S.
Who was the third person in the cast? I only heard kennigit and chill talking, but at the start you mentioned that you were three doing the podcast??
