Proleague to start on April 12
Shinhan Bank Proleague 2008 will kick off on the 12th of April with the same 12 teams that participated last season. It seems like the issue with Samsung Khan has been resolved and the rumors of ACE disbanding have been proven false.
2008's season will work slightly different than previous seasons, as it will only last 6 months and have its Grand Final on the 2nd of August. So it's basically only half a season.
In September 2008 Proleague Season 08/09 will begin with some format changes. Until now the Proleague Seasons have been divided into a 1st half and 2nd half, both halves with playoffs and final. After that, the 1st half and 2nd half champion would battle it out once again in the ultimate Grand Final. The new system however, will consist of 4 rounds, meaning each team has to play all other teams 4 times (4x11matches = 44 matches in total for each team). After this is finished, six teams will qualify for the playoffs. The #1 ranked team will automatically qualify for the grand final. Team #3 will play against Team #6, Team #4 will play against Team #5. The winners of those matches will play each other. The winner of this match will then play Rank #2. And the winner of this match will then finally play against Rank #1 in the Grand Final.
I'm sorry, I guess this was very confusing, maybe someone can draw a tournament table or so :p
An official press conference will be held on the 10th of April.

Every team has to face all others teams 4 times. So its 4*11 = 44.

44*7 (max games) = 308

Edit: I'm talking about the upcoming season. The other season's something like...1320 potential games over 6 months.

In the regular season of everybody plays each other 4 times, it's 12 choose 2 games times 4:
12! / (10! * 2!) * 4 = 12 * 11 / 2 * 4 = 264 matches (bo5) played; 792-1320 games total
or, each team plays every other team, so each team (12 teams) plays 11 teams (every team but itself), 12 * 11 counts each matchup twice (team A vs. team G is the same match as team G vs. team A) so you divide by 2. And this happens 4 times.
I do suck hard at combinatorics though.

this is correct
and another thing:
the 2008/2009 season (that starts in september) will have just as many league matches as the previous seasons. with the only difference that there will be playoffs and finals only one time. so in total there will be slightly less games compared to previous seasons.
the upcoming 2008 season (april - august) will have exactly half of the games (2 rounds + playoffs). the reason for this is that kespa from now on wants the leagues to start in fall, so they can have the grand final in summer at pusan beach. so the upcoming season is only half as long as usual.

Not dividing by 2 is the nonsense. Team1 plays versus Team2, that is 2 teams and only one game. If you don't divide by 2 you duplicate all matches.

Atleast 6 teams can get play off. Very high chance to see KTF.
Cons:

Pachi's graphic of Hot Bid's life is kinda cool.
I wish they'd have some UMS micro maps that are completely useless that require no skill. I also wish for all-kills and 2v2s, 3v3s, and 4v4s. And b/c I think it'd be interesting, fastest maps. One of the round robins should just be junk games where the players and their races and the map is chosen out of a hat.

It is a simple problem involving gauss formula. Lets say 1'st team plays 44 games. That means the 2'nd team, having already played 4 games with the 1'st team, will play 40 more games. The 3'rd team, having played 4 games with the 1'st and the 2'nd team will play 36 more games. Just follow the pattern until you get to 12'th team which will have played 0 more games for the other 11 teams have already played them. So you get this expreson.
44+40+36+32+28+24+20+16+12+8+4 or (44+4)x5.5 = 264 matches
If it is bo7 then we will see 1056 - 1848 games in the 08/09 season. That's a ridiculous amount of games! That's not even counting the playoffs.

It tells you that in every round, every team will play against 11 other teams
So that's 11 * 12 / 2 = 66
Four rounds: 66 * 4 = 264
Upwards of seven games: 264 * 7 = 1848 games...
It's really not that hard...
If you are unconvinced, think about it this way, forget that every team has to play 11 matches. Think about it as every team has to play against every other team once in every round.
Since there are 12 teams, we have 11+10+9+...+1 = 66 matches in every round (if this is too hard to grasp, try 3 ppl shaking hands with each other once, how many handshakes? 4 ppl? 5 ppl?)
4 rounds and 7 games per match = 66 * 4 * 7 = 1848 It's magic...
