Monsieur Seed
– Seed comes back for the second straight week to make his first ever Code S finals in his second season.

Well, coming into the quarterfinals, only 1% of fans predicted that Seed would get past three players and take home the championship. But with two down and only one to go, I would expect that percentage to be a little bit higher come next weekend's final. For the second week in a row, Seed was able to battle back from a deficit and claim victory when all hope seemed loss.

He started out well, stuffing Byun's all-in and waltzing to an easy game one victory, but he was ill-prepared in the following two games. Byun's multi-prong attacks seemed to be too much for Seed, combining hellion drops in the main with a direct attacks up the front to overload Seed's crisis management ability. For two straight games, Seed lost probe after probe in crushing defeats.

Down to his last chance and staring death in the face, Seed did what he has done all season long. He closed his eyes, took a few deep breaths and decided that he wasn't going to lose this series. Even after taking more massive blows from hellion harassment and getting severely behind in economy, Seed didn't give up. He could have tilted, become depressed, and all but given up in the booth, but he kept on fighting.

He went DT's. He defended like a mad man. Any option Seed had to get back into the game, he took it and slowly started to inch his way back into it. When Byun blundered, making a random decision to take most of his SCV's off mining and go in for an unthinkable all-in attack when solid defense would surely book a trip to the finals, Seed was given a glimmer of up. With forcefield after forcefield, Seed continued to stall Byun while he was able to work up his economy and prepare for the upcoming final battle. When Byun finally went in for the killing blow, Seed didn't just hold on, but also regained the economic lead after destroying all the SCVs. It wasn't too long after that Seed rolled on to take a game that he probably would have lost in 99% of the time, getting another shot at the finals in a fifth and final game.

Similarly to another Seed opponent in Symbol, Byun was shaken up after throwing away the fourth game. Seed, brimming with confidence and knowing all he needed to do was to defend early harassment to win, made observer after observer in the fifth game and was able to beat the crumbling Byun.

With it all over, Seed threw his headset off and celebrated his first ever Code S finals in only his second season. Joining Nestea and Mvp as the final racial leader of LG-IM, Seed finally proved that the hype that began a year ago with his GSTL performances was justified.

Crushed Dreams
– MC makes his first Code S final in 500 days, while DongRaeGu's dreams of playing in front of his hometown for a GSL title are crushed in a 0-3 loss.

Dreams are nice. As a kid, if you've ever been a sports fan, think of being the star player on your favorite team, making it to the finals and having everyone from your town show up to see you win the championship. Millions upon millions of kids act out these fantasies in various sports, but only a select few will ever actually be able to live out those dreams. For DongRaeGu, he was three victories away from making that dream a reality.

Not only could he play for the Code S championship in front of his family, girlfriend and friends, but he could have done it in his hometown of Busan. DongRaeGu bleeds hometown pride and always talks about how much he loves where he comes from, and how nothing would be able to match the satisfaction of playing front of his people. Even the neighborhood of DongRaeGu, DRG's namesake, allowed him to be their official representative. As the heavy favorite to win the entire tournament, all he needed to do was get past MC, a player he has already beaten in a major semifinal all the way back during the Blizzard Cup.

Sadly, some dreams remain dreams. MC didn't just take away DRG's chance of a double championship in Busan. He snatched them away, tore them to pieces, and threw the shreds in DRG's face. With a dominating 3-0 victory over the champion of two seasons ago, MC instead came one step closer to realizing his own dream of becoming a three time GSL champion.

MC was coming into this semifinal looking a bit weak in his strongest match-up of PvZ. He got beat by Nerchio at Homestory Cup in the semifinals and then had another semifinal loss to Stephano at the NASL3 finals. MC was stuck in some sort of Groundhog's Day situation where for the past week, he was getting matched up against a new Zerg in the semifinals and losing.

Promising that he had secret strategies up his sleeve, MC proved that he wasn't boasting just for show. DongRaeGu didn't play his best games, scarily similar to his burn out in last season's Ro32, and couldn't get a grasp on the series. MC was in complete control from the get go and as the wins started to pile up for the Protoss President, the confidence in him continued to grow until an all-in in the last set gave him passage to his third finals.

Luckily for DRG, he still has one more chance to make half of his dreams come true if his team can beat FXO tonight in the GSTL semifinals. Visibly distraught after losing to MC, coming off possibly the most heart crushing loss of his career, he will need to focus his disappointment and anger into taking out FXO.

Overall Thoughts Heading Into The Final

With the semifinals done, we now have the finals in front of us. On one side, we have the Comeback Kid, 1% Protoss, and the man who lives his life from the teachings of Monsieur J, LG-IM's Seed. With Nestea and Mvp already having their titles for their respective races, Seed will try to finally become the third cog in IM's Big Three and become not only their Protoss champion, but the new Protoss President and end the 500 day drought for Protoss in the GSL.

For MC, a win and he cements himself for another term as Protoss President. He keeps the title as the only Protoss to ever win the GSL and will be the first player to make over $350,000 in prize money. Similar to last season's final with Squirtle and Mvp, it is a battle of Old vs. New. Will MC keep his crown and fend off the young gun challenging for his throne, or will Seed continue to do what he has done all season and make another miracle occur?

That's exactly what i was going to say.

Although, DRG kind of had it coming, the way he was bragging all throughout the season ;p

Even if MC were to lose this finals, I would never call Seed the Protoss president. He just doesn't have the personality for that kind of name. Not yet.

I'm on your side, Kratoss.

Yes we can! Yes we can!

Can't wait to see some high level PvP, despite more Protoss' in the GSL this season there have been surprisingly few of them thus far. My bet is on MC due to his level of play in the matchup and skill at preparing for matches, however I haven't seen as much Seed PvP so it could be anyone's match to take.

Either way it turns out as a toss player I feel overwhelming amounts of shameless happiness that a Protoss will take a GSL win this year

There was a Tweet a couple days ago from DRG saying "I want to cry". I don't know what this was about but it sure seems like this affected his game big time :\

Go Seed! Out of 8 GSL finals with an IM player, only Mvp have lost one, but still managed to win 4 titles. So while the odds are never in Seed's favour, IM players have a good record in GSL. I would love to see another Protoss with a title, MC is starting to get too cocky :D

Seed reppin the 1%; keeping my fingers crossed that RomneyToss v ObamaToss is a bit more interesting than real elections...

And seeing DRG lose like that was tough; he almost looked as torn up as MKP after some of his finals losses to Mvp

I'm genuinely sad for Byun... This kid deserves so much more attention than what he gets. Then again, don't pull your SCVs when you're that ahead... Good luck to both protosses, I don't care much who wins as long as they show nice matches.

Before the third game. DRG looks like he's already lost.

PvP GSL finals. I never thought it would happen.

I remember when I first watched him in the GSL, I thought MC was a bit of show-off and a little big headed. He won, but couldn't cheer for him. He just seemed like... kind of a dick. When he played Boxer in the NASL, I cheered for Boxer (well, most would). In the NASL finals, I cheered for "not-MC", aka Puma. But slowly, I became a fan. Maybe I was a bit slow, but I realized he wasn't just a jerk, he was a showman, an entertainer. He was a great player, but not a perfect one. He was someone that I could really cheer for-- it didn't matter if he won or lost, he was always looked like a winner.

I feel like in this series, MC using colossi instead of HT may have thrown DRG off a bit.

Err, 4-2 MC.

What should've happened was:
DRG vs Seed DRG wins
MC vs Byun MC wins

and then DRG vs MC in the most epic GSL finals of all time.

Apparently he was losing a lot in practice. My guess would be that since he wanted to play in his home town so badly that he ended up over-practicing, lost a bunch of games, and then ended up playing MC with a mixture of heavy pressure and inconfidence.

after all the hate mc got people saying he would get crushed in that mkp and symbol group of death and that all he does is all in he crushes it all season long with a mix of solid macro and the deadliest all ins in the gsl. its just to bad that it takes a pvp final for a protoss to actually win the gsl.

I have no problem Protoss winning GSL but why PvP. Every Protoss lover is gonna say this series will be the most epic PvP ever but PvP wont be epic no matter what happened. It is just the battle of number which who ever have the higher number, win.

I would prefer Byun go into the final and MC win it.
Marine is Terran strongest unit but it might be Terran's biggest weakness. Bcos of Marine so OP, other Terran unit regrettably have to be weak..

As long as MC doesn't derp like against Hongun last year his PvP should beat Seed's easily

His secret strategy was to appear weak at Homestory in order to trick DRG into a false sense of confidence. Genius.

I don't care who wins this, both players are amazing. As much as I would've liked to dodge a PvP finals, these two definitely earned their spots.

If I had to pick someone to win, My IM-Fanboy heart would have to stick with Seed. But only barely.

Realistically, MC 4 - 2 Seed.

Was hoping for TvP finals, but PvP is fine too, they will give us entertaining games. So happy that being too cocky DRG shot himself in the leg, I cant by words express my sheer joy of MC crushing him

The most recent Protoss GSL champion becomes the Protoss President, sorry MC fans that say he will still be president if he loses We're trying to build storylines here!

Rooting for MC really hope he gets his 3rd Championship. I think for starcraft in general its kind of cool to have multiple people with multiple GSL victories will give MC a nice Legacy with the likes of MVP and Nestea.

Make it SeeD ! Give a third champion to IM !

And start your road to the Protoss Whitehouse (I wouldn't call him the protoss president if he wins, but it'll be a strong argument nonetheless).

Oh, why is there such a gap beetwen semi-finals and finals? Isn't 7 days a bit to much?

Well the GSL is the kind of league where its suppose to pay off with preparation so i think its a good amount of time. It is actually less then players usually have to wait for r32 to r16 since there are different groups. It also use to be 2 weeks.

C'mon MC. The return of the President.

Surprised DRG lost though, I really thought we'd be seeing him in the finals

Lol this has been said by someone before, but even if Seed 4-0's MC, MC will still be the Protoss President. MVP is the Game Genie Terran, Boxer is The Emperor, and MC is the Protoss President. It's not a title that can just be taken by someone else.

MC will always be protoss president like Boxer is the emperor no matter how bad he does. Get a new nick.

I wont make any prediction on PvP but no matter what IM wins. MC co-habitates there in the day when practicing and he has some business partnership with them. Seed is obviously a full fledged IM teammate. No matter what Protoss wins...about time.

MMA vs DRG begs to differ.

Meh I don't count blizzard cup as a GSL, but yeah that was the most epic.

I dont count the world GSL MVP won either. An invitational with less than half GSL prize money. Really it'll be 3-3-3 for the kings if MC wins.

I think 'president' sounds a bit lame. MC should be called king, tsar or something cool instead. Personal favourite right now: 'boss toss'. Because it rhymes.

President comes from that he said he will be president of Korea one day...in the meantime he's president of protoss. He's just a boss, natural born leader, very popular among his peers, so president fits just fine. King/tsar is like inherited.

MC practices with the IM team if I am not mistaken. So sort of an LG-IM(house) only finals. They must have figured it out. Btw. Go!Go! MC, finally stopped being suicide toss and is back on top

Just gonna leave this here:

PvP winrates:
MC: 70% 33-14
Seed: 40% 8-12

Personally, while rooting for MC, the big news here is, the finals is a pvp. THUS WE HAVE A PROTOSS CHAMP. Finally the big Slump of P´s in sc2´s brightest tournament may come to an end.

I think that is definitely a worthy statistic. One in which I had the feeling was the case from all the games I have seen. MC has excellent PvP. Unreal, actually. Probably cuz of his game planning and blink micro which is second to no one.
Without me, it's just aweso.
