Don't Call it A Comeback

"Thanks IEM for giving me money." SK.MC talked the talk three days ago after making it out of his RO24 group at the IEM World Championship, but he had to wait until the grand finals to show that he could certainly walk the walk. MC emerged victorious in an uphill battle against nemesis EG.PuMa, taking home the title of IEM Season Six World Champion, as well as adding a tidy sum of $35,000 to his bank account.

Back from the brink of defeat

MC got off to a good start against the player who had defeated him in previous finals, using his trademark aggression and precise force-fields to make PuMa pay heavily for trying an overly greedy triple-orbital strategy in the first game. It was a tactic MC never strayed from in the entire five game series, always looking to force PuMa to stay on guard, and possibly end the game if a weakness was detected.

However, it was over-aggression in the later phases of the game that saw MC lose games two and three, nearly costing him the championship. Both times, MC traversed the map to attack PuMa with a large force, only to see PuMa successfully defend by the skin of his teeth while simultaneously sending infantry laden medivacs to wreak havoc in an undefended Protoss base.

Down 1 – 2, MC looked all but dead by the ten minute mark of game four. His early gateway pressure backfired on him, as PuMa surprised him by rushing for stimmed marines and medivacs. MC's forces were caught loitering outside PuMa's base for too long, and MC reacted two seconds too late to save his sentries as stimmed marines attacked.

PuMa continued to press with his highly efficient combination, making it all the way to MC's natural. Though MC survived by deploying his probes as a temporary militia, it looked like PuMa had done enough damage to secure a game-winning advantage. Knowing it was do or die time, MC pulled a strategy out of his PvZ playbook and decided to try and kill PuMa with a two-base blink stalker all-in before PuMa's advantage snowballed out of control.

Thought it looked like nothing but a desperation tactic at first, PuMa's defenses started to look a bit thin as MC warped in stalkers at a forward pylon. Had PuMa's macro slipped? Was he overestimating his advantage? Whatever the answer, one thing was certain: there were not enough defenders. MC crushed through the front to take an unexpected comeback victory, tying the series.

With the series on the line, PuMa showed the depth of his crafty planning. Having opened with gasless expansion variants in every single game up to then, he finally went for a tech build – after masking it as another gasless expansion, of course. A hellion drop toasted several of MC's probes and sentries, putting PuMa in a good position as he prepared to go up to three bases for mass infantry production.

MC decided he would go for another mass blink-stalker timing to try and get back in the game, but this time PuMa was prepared with bunkers and more than ample defenses. This put MC behind in the race to the late game, as he had lost valuable time he could have spent teching, upgrading, and keeping up on expansions. When a large Terran army came to knock at the door of MC's just finishing third base, it looked like there was very little hope for MC.

However, in dramatic turn of events, psionic storm finished researching just in time for MC to be able to engage the attacking Terran army, and just two well placed storms turned a potential loss into a resounding victory.

With his third base secure, MC counter-attacked with masses of zealots and archons. PuMa's heavily depleted army just barely held off MC's relentless warp-ins, but he lost many SCVs in the process. PuMa managed to barely survive on mules for a few minutes, but couldn't last forever against MC's constant waves of ground troops. With the GG received, MC burst from his seat, walked to the stand, and hoisted his rightful trophy towards the cheering crowd.

The more things change...

In ways, it seemed like a return to normalcy. The first half of 2011 belonged to oGs.MC. His winning ways made him the leader of the Protoss race, his obscene winnings painted him as the face of the Korean invasion, and his raw emotion made him pro-gaming's beating heart. For the most part, this victory has seen those titles restored.

In other ways, it was obvious that the MC of 2011 was long gone. His aura of invincibility had long since been dispelled, and he looked threatened at multiple points in the tournament. His last GSL victory had come almost a year before, and it seemed inevitable that he would be a victim of generation change, next in line after Mvp and Nestea. His swaggering victory lap might have said 'I am the best in the world!' one year ago, but one could not help but feel that it contained a note of 'Don't ever count me out' in Hanover.

Whatever his true position among Korea's Starcraft elite may be, MC made one thing clear at the IEM World Championship. With the Protoss race having its best spurt in almost a year, repopulating its ranks in the GSL, finding young talent springing from the earth like bamboo after rain, and seeing veterans catch their second wind – Protoss begins, and still ends, with MC.

Update Log
+ Show Spoiler [Past Updates] +

13:07 GMT (+00:00): Headline time!

13:07 GMT (+00:00): MC 3 - 2 PuMa. PuMa micros the best he can, but MC is just churning out zealot-archon off four bases. PuMa can't hold, and is forced to GG.

13:06 GMT (+00:00): PuMa down by 50 workers, but living on mules.

13:03 GMT (+00:00): Relentless attack from MC... PuMa looks quite dead.

13:02 GMT (+00:00): Err, not just stop it. Roflstomp it, I guess? PuMa on the back foot, as MC builds forward pylons to go for the kill.

13:01 GMT (+00:00): Storm finishes just in time for MC to be able to stop PuMa's attack.

13:00 GMT (+00:00): PuMa starts to poke towards MC's third base, with a nexus starting to warp in. MC probably doesn't have the army to stop this....

12:58 GMT (+00:00): MC goes in... no chance of breaking. Retreats. Belatedly starts getting double forge and templar archives while PuMa is already done making his third CC.

12:56 GMT (+00:00): MC: "F***it. We'll do it live!" Goes for mass 2-base blink stalkers again.

12:55 GMT (+00:00): MC shook up? Random aggression into PuMa's natural ends up being a free stalker giveaway.

12:54 GMT (+00:00): Not an all-in follow-up from PuMa, going expand and infantry instead. Great drop kills off even more of MC's sentries while he just builds up at home.

12:53 GMT (+00:00): PuMa ferries down 3 hellions, kills 10 probes and two sentries.

12:52 GMT (+00:00): Nope, not tanks and banshees. Medivac and hellion!

12:51 GMT (+00:00): 1-gate exp from MC, and.... 1/1/1 time.

12:50 GMT (+00:00): And the PuMa mindgame begins. Wall off ramp, go rax-gas for the first time in the series.

12:49 GMT (+00:00): Game Five, Antiga Shipyard. PuMa @ 3, MC @ 9.

12:47 GMT (+00:00): It seems like PuMa thought he had gotten more ahead with his attack than he actually had, and forgot to keep a reasonable army around for defense.

12:46 GMT (+00:00): MC 2 - 2 PuMa. PuMa somehow committed too hard to his attack without doing enough damage. MC counters with mass blink stalkers and just wins the game.

12:42 GMT (+00:00): PuMa's pure marine-medivac kills off all of MC's sentries, a good amount of stalkers, and some probes, but MC manages to survive with three bases mining.

12:42 GMT (+00:00): MC loiters outside PuMa's base without attacking for too long, and gets jumped by PuMa's rush to stimmed marines and medivacs.

12:40 GMT (+00:00): All these game are blending together for MC. 1-gate expo into 3 gate pressure again!

12:37 GMT (+00:00): Again, rax FE from PuMa, 1-gate nexus from MC!

12:36 GMT (+00:00): Game Four, Entombed Valley. PuMA @ bottom right, MC @ top left.

12:28 GMT (+00:00): PuMa 2 - 1 MC. PuMa drops with 3 dropships as MC attacks. PuMa manages to fend off MC's attack with vikings and good positioning at his main ramp, while his dropped infantry tear MC's main apart. MC GG's.

12:27 GMT (+00:00): MC takes his third as well, and moves out with a scary colossi + chargelot army.

12:25 GMT (+00:00): With MC scared to move out until he has some colossi and perhaps charge upgrade, PuMa takes a third base for free.

12:24 GMT (+00:00): Nothing too remarkable, MC does some gate pressure again, but doesn't really get any damage done. MC goes for colossi, PuMa looks for drops, standard stuff.

12:20 GMT (+00:00): Yet another rax FE vs 1-gate expansion start.

12:18 GMT (+00:00): Game Three, Shakuras Plateau. PuMa @ bottom left, MC @ top right.

12:14 GMT (+00:00): PuMa 1 - 1. That went remarkably well for PuMa. He just barely stopped MC's attack, even without the two dropships worth of infantry on defense. In fact, those dropships were causing fatal damage to MC while all of the Protoss troops were out attacking.

12:13 GMT (+00:00): Two dropships leave PuMa's base as MC gets ready to attack....

12:12 GMT (+00:00): MC pumping immortals, and teching up to colossi as well. Also up to quite a few gates, so it looks like he's going to attack PuMa as he expands, instead of matching him in expansions.

12:11 GMT (+00:00): MC forced to retreat after eating tank shells. PuMa starts a third CC, showing his build was a tank expand and not a push build (not that MC knows this, as his obs had not yet arrived).

12:10 GMT (+00:00): PuMa doing the double-reactor barracks, siege tank build off one base. Meanwhile, MC made a ton of sentries and looks to be going for 3 gateway pressure again.

12:08 GMT (+00:00): Similar openings, with PuMa going rax-FE, while MC goes for a 1-gate expansion.

12:05 GMT (+00:00): Game Two, Cloud Kingdom. MC @ top, PuMa @ bottom.

12:02 GMT (+00:00): MC 1 - 0 PuMa. MC took his time, but he finally decided to attack PuMa with a massive deathball and took the game.

12:00 GMT (+00:00): A double drop from PuMa actually does a decent amount of damage. MC seems tired of building up, and moves out with colossi and ground troops. He did give PuMa a decent amount of breathing room, and PuMa does have a decent 3 base economy and alright army as well.

11:58 GMT (+00:00): PuMa frantically trying to make things happen with drops, but MC is still on three bases and almost doubling PuMa's supply.

11:56 GMT (+00:00): As usual, MC's force-fields are awesome, and he kills a TON of scvs and marines, forces a CC lift, and goes home with a fifty supply advantage.

11:55 GMT (+00:00): MC invests heavily into sentries to go for a bust off three gates.

11:52 GMT (+00:00): Third command center starting for PuMa!

11:52 GMT (+00:00): Rax FE from PuMa, and 1-gate exp from MC.

11:49 GMT (+00:00): Game One, Daybreak. MC @ right, PuMa @ left.

11:47 GMT (+00:00): MMA in PuMa's corner, SK.Reis and MC's girlfriend(?) in MC's.

11:45 GMT (+00:00): LET'S GET READY TO RUMMMMBBBBLLLLLLEE!

09:26 GMT (+00:00): ESL Schedule says PuMa vs MC at 11:15 GMT (+00:00).

09:24 GMT (+00:00): MMA 3 - 0 Feast. Feast just can't handle the 3-rax marine/SCV all-in.

09:24 GMT (+00:00): BIIIIIITTTTTTTTTT BYYYY BIIIIITTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!

09:21 GMT (+00:00): Gasless 3 rax opener from MMA, with hidden 2nd and 3rd rax. It will look like a rax FE to Feast, unless he smells something fishy or scouts the extra 2 rax. Meanwhile, Feast just doing 1-gate FE.

09:20 GMT (+00:00): Game Three. Entombed Valley, MMA @ bottom left, Feast @ top right.

09:17 GMT (+00:00): MMA 2 - 0 Feast. Feast knows he's dead after the failed all-in, GG's out.

09:16 GMT (+00:00): Feast decides to go for it, blinking in towards the bunkers. His troops get chewed up by 1/1 stimmed MM.

09:15 GMT (+00:00): Feast tries to attack the front, where there are 3 bunkers. stimmed +1 infantry and repair making the attack pretty useless.

09:14 GMT (+00:00): Seven gate blink? Is this the real life, or is this just PvZ?

09:13 GMT (+00:00): Feast doing a similar fast 7-gate, blink build. MMA just getting upgrades and infantry.

09:12 GMT (+00:00): Cute build from MMA. Reaper expo into fast engineering bay!

09:10 GMT (+00:00): Reaper exp for MMA, 1 gate exp for Feast.

09:09 GMT (+00:00): Game Two. Cloud Kingdom, Feast @ top, MMA @ bottom.

09:06 GMT (+00:00): MMA 1 - 0 Feast. Feast GG's out after he loses his natural.

09:06 GMT (+00:00): MMA attacks, his supply adv and better positioning destroying Feast. 80 supply lead for MMA.

09:04 GMT (+00:00): Feast belatedly trying to catch up in playing a "normal" game with templar tech, upgrades, and a third base. Meanwhile, MMA's third base has already kicked in, and he's taking a supply lead.

09:02 GMT (+00:00): MMA takes a third while doing a double drop... which seems like a waste of 16 marines and 2 medivacs to kill 8 probes. Feast has an army adv, but doesn't seem to realize it and plays passive.

09:00 GMT (+00:00): Weird wrinkle from Feast, going for something that seems to be 6-gate blink stalkers. Very late forge for a PvT.

08:59 GMT (+00:00): Shockingly normal early game. 3-gate robo, 3 rax-factory-starport, zzzz...

08:56 GMT (+00:00): 1 gate FE for Feast, 1 rax FE for MMA.

08:54 GMT (+00:00): MMA vs Feast, Game One. Shakuras Plateau - MMA @ bottom left, Feast @ bottom right.

08:45 GMT (+00:00): Exclusive update from @TeamLiquidLive: "JYP and puma practicing, JYP types something in korean Puma: sdjdkfhs, no korean JYP: Fuck you. Pylon."

08:18 GMT (+00:00): MMA vs Feast scheduled to start at 08:45 GMT (+00:00).

07:40 GMT (+00:00): Waitin'

Finals

Results:

(T)EG.PuMa vs (P)SK_MC

  • Game One: Daybreak. MC @ right, PuMa @ left. PuMa opened with a greedy triple orbital build, while MC went for a 1-gate expand. Instead of going for a standard tech/upgrade follow-up, MC decided to churn out a few rounds of gateway units from his three gateways after expanding in order to apply some pressure.

PuMa didn't expect MC to be so aggressive, and was underprepared on defense. With good FF's, MC killed off PuMa's bunkers, marines, and a ton of SCVs to give himself a huge advantage before he backed off to consolidate his lead.

The game dragged out for a while, but MC had a massive advantage after dealing so much early damage. He just raced towards his perfect army composition off three bases, advanced, and wiped PuMa out.

  • Game Two: Cloud Kingdom. MC @ top, PuMa @ bottom. PuMa went for a FE into a kind of marine-tank triple orbital build. On the other hand, MC went for a two base gateway unit + colossi timing, looking to punish PuMa for his greed. However, MC just barely failed to break PuMa's defenses with his attack, even though PuMa had a significant number of troops sent out to drop the Protoss main. With his attack stopped and his main being ravaged, MC GG'd out.

  • Game Three: Shakuras Plateau. PuMa @ bottom left, MC @ top right. The game progressed to the usual left vs right multi-base macro game on Shakuras Plateau. As MC decided to go for a chargelot + colossus attack, PuMa split off a small number of his troops to drop MC's main, while he made due on defense with a slightly reduced number of troops. PuMa managed to hold off MC's force at home while his drop did big damage, drawing the GG from MC.

  • Game Four: Entombed Valley. PuMA @ bottom right, MC @ top left. PuMa punished MC's over-commitment to 3 gateway pressure by rushing towards stimmed marines and medivacs. PuMa did a lot of damage with his marines and medivacs, but overestimated his advantage and didn't build enough defenses after his attack was stopped. MC simply went for a huge blink-stalker counter attack, which was enough to end the game.

  • Game Five: Antiga Shipyard. PuMa @ 3, MC @ 9. PuMa pummeled MC during the early game, doing a sneaky hellion drop build to kill probes and sentries, and another marine drop to kill off even more sentries. At a disadvantage, MC decided he would go for another mass blink-stalker timing to try and get back in the game, but this time PuMa was prepared with bunkers and a good number of troops.

MC looked very behind as he desperately tried to catch up on tech upgrades, and expansions. It looked like PuMa was certain to win as long as he played it slow and safely, but one successful defense from MC managed to swing the game. PuMa attacked into MC's third with infantry and medivacs, and looked like he was going to tear down the nexus with his superior force. However, storm upgrade finished JUST in time for MC, and he was able to turn a potential loss into a resounding victory.

With his third base secure, MC then counter-attacked with masses of zealots and archons. PuMa's heavily depleted army just barely held off MC's relentless warp-ins, but he lost very many SCVs in the process. PuMa managed to barely survive on mules for a few minutes, but couldn't survive in the end against MC's constant waves of ground troops.

  • PuMa 2 -3 MC

Third/Fourth Place

Results:

(P)Mill.Feast vs (T)SlayerS_MMA

  • Game One: Shakuras Plateau - MMA @ bottom left, Feast @ bottom right. After regular FE openings, Feast did a peculiar 6-gate blink build, instead of going for the usual tech and upgrades. He didn't really do anything with the units he pumped out, and MMA was able to take a fast third off a small number of troops without getting detected.

Feast then belatedly decided to play a normal game, catching up in tech and expansions, but it was already too late. MMA's faster third base had kicked in, and had a supply lead, and an upgrade lead from having built engineering bays earlier than Feast had forges. With good positioning and a bigger army, MMA was able to easily defeat Feast with his first major attack.

  • Game Two: Cloud Kingdom, Feast @ top, MMA @ bottom. MMA went for a cute reaper expand and fast engineering bay build, while Feast went for a 7-gate blink stalker all-in. MMA didn't cut any corners, and had three bunkers at his front, and was able to repel Feast's all-in very easily. Feast GG'd out after his all-in failed, as he was going up against 1/1 MMM, while he was on 0/0 blink stalkers.

  • Game Three: Entombed Valley, MMA @ bottom left, Feast @ top right. MMA disguised a 3-rax build as a regular 1-rax FE, and caught Feast totally off-guard. His marine-SCV all-in easily beat Feast's 1-gate FE.

  • Feast 0 - 3 MMA

I disagree with every prediction you just made. Feast is good, but MMA is incredible. I think Puma's TvP is too good, and NaVi has a really good record against ESC in IEM finals.
Force staff is the best item in the game.

Those winner interviews are just lame. Players that just say: "Micro micro" - that just doesn't cut it...

Honestly: If somebody new to esports see's this interviews, he must think: "Wow, these guys are really dull !!"

problem is the interview is in a language that the player isn't fluent in. when MC finally gave up trying to answer in english (and full credit to him for trying in the first place), you could see that he was far more verbose.

Very close, finally MC won a finals against PuMa! The overall score though in finals is still PuMa up 2-1 I think?

YEAH!!!!!!!!! MC!!!!! I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT MANG!!!!!! I BELIEVED IN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

MC just seems to be in great shape these days, definitely way out of his slump.

@eYeball: The score in finals is Puma 2 and MC 1, however in total series I believe it's 2-2. (MC knocked out Puma at MLG Orlando)

08:02 EST: Err, not just stop it. Roflstomp it, I guess? PuMa on the back foot, as MC builds forward pylons to go for the kill.

08:01 EST: Storm finishes just in time for MC to be able to stop PuMa's attack.

I would say ROFLSTORM it.

yeah, but MC has won the two most recent times they met. The last time Puma won was in the depths of MC's slump and the peak of 1-1-1.

"His last GSL victory had come almost a year before, and it seemed inevitable that he would be a victim of generation change, next in line after Mvp and Nestea. "

What? Mvp failed to reach Ro8 for the first time in ages, after dominating the scene almost a year, even though suffering CTS, and you are already talking about generation change? oO

You guys do a great job with these writeups, but this part:

Knowing it was do or die time, MC pulled a strategy out of his PvZ playbook and decided to try and kill PuMa with a two-base blink stalker all-in before PuMa's advantage snowballed out of control.

is simply not true. By the time the stalkers reached Puma's base, MC was on 65 probes and 3 bases (and building more), outmining Puma even with mules factored in. He also had charge on the way and was up to 75 probes by the time Puma left. In short, it was not an all-in.

The Throne is empty.

No Terran at the moment can dominate sufficiently well in all 3 match-ups to be called the best Terran. MKP has the best TvP, alive has the best TvT, MMA has the best TvZ.

I still think the term "generation change" is a little bit pre-emptive. Nestea is still probably the second best Zerg, after DRG who he mentors himself, and MVP claims his issues are down to his wrists.

One thing is for sure, however: out of the Elite 4 of 2011 (MVP, Nestea, MC, MMA), only MC and MMA are retaining their glory this year at all so far, and MMA isn't as big as he used to be: both his TvT and TvP look highly suspect.

I'm thinking of doing a Pokemon-themed write up in memory of the Elite 4 of 2011, with having Elly the ESPORTS Elephant as the Pokemon Champion.

problem is the interview is in a language that the player isn't fluent in. when MC finally gave up trying to answer in english (and full credit to him for trying in the first place), you could see that he was far more verbose.

Yeah, he should always say it in korean. Better prepare one sentence for the fans at the end of the interview, then this (interview) performance.

I am so sad about that, because I'm a MC fan, and it hurts when someone you like just makes a fool of himself (or worse).

Anyways: He showed why we love him: He is the only real toss winner out there.

MinChul!!!

I can't believe I actually tabbed out of the game after MC lost his sentries in game4, in frustration, only to switch back a few minutes later and see him with the miracle win!

PuMa got supply blocked multiple times during the series and fell to MC's superior control even when MC was incredibly behind. Well deserved win.

Lol aLive isn't even close to being the best TvT. Just because he beat MMA with a couple of build order advantages doesn't mean he's better than every other terran out there. Taeja demolished aLive 3-0 in the Weekly Grand Prix and aLive hasn't even played many terrans recently. That's just absurd

Too sad MMA played this bad against Puma. Was not really showing his best.
MMA vs. Zenio Games were so awesome. Whole Tournament Zenio was playing very well, vs. Zenio MMA was @ 120% so much going on...

It woulda been fine if puma thought MC had storm. The assumption that he couldn't have it in time cost him the game. GGs both.

I'm actually really impressed by Feast with this tournament, I originally thought that he was overhyped from IEM Kiev, but he shows lots of skill and potential. Taking 4th to a PvT monster, one of the best Terrans in the world, and the Protoss President himself is no mean feat.

I really hope the next IEM "bumper" or whatever you call that brief commercial they always play gets some new clips, like of MC. I'm really glad to see MC beat Puma in a finals and carry on his usual swag. Besides Nani/HuK sometimes, MC's the only Protoss winning major events.

Hero won Dreamhack. But MC is still the most dominant Protoss right now. No other Protoss comes close in achievements.

So here's what I think: MMA might have focused too much on practicing TvP due to the numerous foreign protoss, as well as Korean Protosses in this tournament that he barely touched his TvT. It was sad watching him against Puma. Totally different from the MMA that destroys all terran players not named Polt.

What? Mvp failed to reach Ro8 for the first time in ages, after dominating the scene almost a year, even though suffering CTS, and you are already talking about generation change? oO

quick question, who's the best Terran player in the world :o

There isn't a best Terran at the moment. MMA beats Mvp consistently but also loses TvT to other Terrans frequently and has very average TvP compared to other Koreans like Polt and MKP. His TvZ is probably tops in the world but that's it. There isn't currently a Terran who is good across all three matchups and who is also having consistent success right now.

Wow, I was considering avoiding TL to not spoil it but I figured it would be hard to catch the sc rebroadcast since I'm at work but after reading the recap I wish I had. Sounded like an amazing finals

Er, the OP has a big mistake. In game 4 of MC vs Puma, MC had 3 bases when he "took a page out of his PvZ book and went 2 base all-in". In fact, MC had that 3rd for a very long time. The casters just didn't show the 3rd base ever I think.

I would argue that Mvp is still the most solid player all-around, even though he seems to be slumping slightly lately. Also his tournament results for 2011 are insane, he basically won every tournament he entered except when MMA was there (MLG Korean Invitational and MLG Anaheim not included).

MMA is still definitely a top 3 Terran, but I'll side with Mvp just because of his all-around consistency, boasting over 60% in every matchup, and nearly 70% overall winrate. MMA has a crazy winrate against Zerg, and overall pretty good winrate vs Terran, but his TvP is sub-par for Korea.

There isnt a best terran ATM because terran has been nerfed all to hell. If the force fields are true, toss will win, no matter what a terran does. Grats to MC, he certainly did well but I think it was at the hands of some gimmick builds from a slightly OP race. Granted MMA won 3-0 over feast, but lets be real, Feast isnt half the player that MMA is....

They did show it 2-3 times I believe. Even showed a probe transfer; but your main point stands. MC was way ahead in economy after he deflected puma's attack because he kept making probes from 3 nexus. That's why his push was so strong, not some mystical puma macro slipup.

I've always liked MC. I follow SC as a spectator, and part of the reason is because of the flamboyant character/personality. You may be good, but if you're not interesting, I don't really wanna watch.

That's why I'd tune in for MC/Boxer/July... (something about July that I can't help but always cheering for him!)...vs someone like MVP or whoever it is supposedly best in the world now.

"MC pulled a strategy out of his PvZ playbook and decided to try and kill PuMa with a two-base blink stalker all-in"

How do you two-base all-in with three bases? He even had the 3rd base up when PuMa initially counter-attacked. I thought for sure that MC was going to cancel it but he let it finish, which helped him in the long run.

Congrats to MC for an epic comeback though =)

MC bosstoss!

Do we know if/when vods and/or reps will be released? Or if they already have been and I fail at looking?

They've got reps and vods up here now. Terrible quality if you aren't a subscriber though.

Didn't catch all the games in the finals, but I pretty much knew that MC would have it.

ah yeah, the vods....

I love how I couldn't watch the IEM live because I am in Europe. This is obviously paradoxical, but that's another consequence of the awful format of this tournament. In comparison, the korean tournaments are actually watchable by the koreans, because guess what, they take place after work / school hours.
All these tournament organizers will have to step their game up if they want esports to get big in the west.

To the 30 peopel here claiming that i can hide spoilers. IT DOESNT WORK. When u visit the page u can click the box, so what, u still have to scroll past a GIANT headliner that is a spoiler. And after u leave and come back to the page another day the setting isn't saved.

Getting E-Sports big in the west is exactly why they had to have these unpleasant broadcast times. The IEM have to keep to office hours because they are on Cebit and they close the venue at 6pm... It's as simple as that. They want to present E-Sports to a huge public and not just to a limited amount of fans who know about anyways... That is why ESL goes to trade fairs.

The IEM World Championship will be broadcasted in normal television, last season had 6? special episodes in free tv on Eurosport due to a cooperation between ESL and them. There will be 2 shows about this years cebit finals on ZDF kultur. ESL is always trying to make E-Sports grow as a whole and then grow with it, rather than trying to dominate and push other organizers out of business.

You can also see that by the fact that they don't just invite superstars, but hold qualifiers. That hurts their viewer numbers because people like stephano or naniwa did not make it through the qualifiers and then are missing, but look at Feast for example. If IEM Quali system would not be there he would still never have been at a big offline event and nobody would know his name, similar story for elfi. So by being an actual sports league, rather than an invite tournament that tries to create big numbers on short term, they manage to create new stars and that makes the whole community last longer. ESL exists since 1997 and is still here today, unlike most other big organizers who all disappeared or went bust (cgs, wsvg, cpl, ESWC) So they must be doing something right...

Man, I sound like an ESL employee^^ Believe me I am not, I just followed Giga2, ESL TV for so many years that I maybe became a bit of a fanboy.

Oh, in case someone is looking for those:
