[SC2B] Liquid vs EG Clanwar - Aftermath

Text byriptide

The games are over, and what games they were. From nomad spine crawlers to Dark Templar and Thor drops, the battles were intense and above all, powered by Sean "Day[9]" Plott and Blake "Chill" Muzar, the voices of Team Liquid!

If you were one of the unfortunate few who missed the event, never fear, because VODs await in this thread. On the other hand, if you watched this live and just want to enjoy the games all over again - feel free, they're yours for the taking.

While tournaments are fun to watch, there's something about a clanwar that's special, and we saw that yesterday as these games unfolded. Friendly rivalry, lively trashtalk and great games - what more could a nerd ask for?

Also, congratulations to our five lucky beta key winners! Out of 2000 followers on our Twitter, you guys were the chosen ones, and we certainly hope you enjoy playing SC2.

Thank you Liquid and thank you EG for entertaining us! We look forward to seeing more of all you in the near future. Good games.

Thank You

The joy of being a part of a great community like this really comes out when we host events. Yesterday, as our casters struggled to get Livestream up and running, our good friends thegunrun and martijnmumbles at GLHF.tv stepped up by providing a rock solid stream for over 9000 viewers. We also smashed viewership records yesterday thanks to the help of our buddy Slasher's mad social media skills. Last but not least, thank you everyone who commented, redditted and twittered the event out to the Internets. You guys rock!

I said this after the matches were over, but it's worthy of repeating. This was an amazing series of games. Team Liquid put up an awesome effort, had the set order been any different could have very well been a different outcome. Team EG is as strong as they have been in the Triple Strike tournaments. Again Congrats to Team EG. Mad props to Chill and Day9 for the stellar commentary, even if Chill had to fudge it for one game and cast off of the stream. Seriously mad props to GLHF.tv for coming to the rescue and getting a stream up for all of us to enjoy and getting the VODs up in real time.

I watched some of the games they were really exciting (esp Incontrol and Nony Go yo!). I have a request though, can someone upload these VODS to yuotube? I find my ustream loading time takes really really long and youtube would be faster to watch with .

Thanks TL for an excellent excellent event, you guys are totally awesome. Thanks to EG And Team TL to!

good overall but what was with the non-sc background music sometimes DURING the games? An example is Nazgul vs Machine in game 2 (http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/6254656)...it sounds like utter trash in the background :S

I prefer replays cause I like to watch at 3x speed.. and not a fan really of day[9] =/

But I understand how VOD/casters now can use adsense on their streams which give them money when people watch, so thats an incentive to not give replays anymore.

It even sounds like trash from the C&C series?

No idea why glhf likes to add that music when streaming sc2, but the stream is of otherwise amazing quality.

Hey guys, lots of great matches and a nice win by an unfavored EG. Will be talking a lot about this on Weapon of Choice and Live On Three at 2 PM EST and 4 PM EST at http://www.djWHEAT.tv - tune in! Good to see my helping broke all records seen before. I honestly forgot about the event and was only reminded by Kennigit one hour before it started, so the numbers actually could have been much higher ;p. Reddit.com loooooves to watch competitive Starcraft (and many other games). You guys should check it out, it's a simpler, better version of Digg with more intelligent users, and the gaming section is enormous.

This is really unfortunate. I've been playing/following SC for as long as anyone and the one and only thing that always bothered me about SC1 was that replays weren't ever released.

I understand not releasing the reps for events like TSL where the sponsor has a product that you guys are trying to sell in form of advertising, but this event kinda seemed like more of a community thing and not releasing reps seems pretty lame.

Hope you guys reconsider.

Ok so Ive watched all the games now and the event as such was great with great games. For some reason though I cant seem to find it as interesting to watch SC2 as the original.

This might be to poor knowladge of the game though. Considring I havnt got the beta (or even played it for that matter) I really lack the knowladge to make my own judgement when I watch! That being said I think its awsome that you guys do stuff like this for the comunity.

The thing with releasing replays is that you reveal to much of the players styles. Usually the players want to keep their specific style of doing things as secret as possible. Also, its a good thing for the competitiveness of the game not to reveal. All in all I think its good that they dont release the replays.

I think its because of players that dont want to show every detail of their strats because they are involved in other tournaments. Just my humble opinion! Theres a little difference between reps and vods.

I dont mind this at all. Watched the glhftv stream and it was great. No lag whatsoever and really good games. TLO vs InControl were my favourite games.

Can I make a suggestion? Can you guys make a team game next time? 4 1v1s and then a team game(2v2) ? i think it would be nice though if we "only" see 1v1 its amazing already

Congrats to all players!

Not releasing replays is kind of silly, especially if it's to protect strategies. Not gonna happen... everything is so open nowadays, trying to hide stuff is just silly.
Unless these players intend on playing within a tight circle of people who will never share replays, they will leak, and there is nothing wrong with that. The SC community needs to get over this replay-phobia. WC3 survived fine with replays always being released.

This isn't how we think about it. When we go to a sponsor and he goes "oh show me an example of how many vod views you had please". We need clean numbers - we do this now so that we can have big things like TSL later. It also results in 50 english commentators making vods and then we have to track them all down to figure out how many views they had etc.

Does releasing the reps really drop the view count by that much? I feel like I'm one of the few who hate watching vods because they are 1x speed and the comentators miss a great deal of important things.

Is there any type of system out there that would host reps and make you watch an advertisement before downloading them? Even if it was 1 advertisment per single rep it would be better than vods.

Good tourney! I understand kennigit's response. Theres a few things you cant see from the VODS but u can always figure them out by watching the vods really. Theyll use certain tactics on ladder anyway and most of those get released.
I'm Norwegian/Dutch. Just the awesome parts of them though :D

I have slow internet, and the provided VOD links don't work well at all. Is there any chance of them being uploaded to nevake. I read your post above kenningit, but it would seem that putting it on youtube would still condense views and make views easy to point out. (Something similar to the TL Invitational?)

Burritos and coffee!!! With a Bear Semen chaser!!! Maybe Day could get Taco Bell as a sponsor. And Chill; kinda like the new Spock.

About the replays; everyone complaining please just stop. When you are invited to someone's house you don't drink out of the milk carton. You may do that at home but that's your house so your rules. There is a question of etiquette here and I believe our benefactors to be more than gracious in what they have shared with us.

Not releasing replays hurts the new players comming to the game, which is the most important aspect to any game wanting to be a big eSports game.

SC:BW died in the west for a reason, let's not let it happen again.

Starcraft died in the west because players didn't release replays? I must have missed that. Your history of foreigner Starcraft is full of holes.

Not releasing replays hurts new players? Lol What...

I'm preety new as far as competitive RTS goes, and listening to casters who obviously know what they are talking about is a great learning experience.

Also the first game of TLO vs. InControl was fucking awesome! Thor & Medivac rush anyone!! HAHA

Actually, I'd say the longevity of SC in Korea is due to the fact that replays are not released and thus the excitement, feel, presentation, suspense is all still preserved the whole time. There is a sense of mystery of "how the hell did he do that?" when watching anything on TV that is lost with replays, which is what I feel is what keeps it so interesting and alive.

Amazing event to watch! So glad I got to see it live! Every game in that event was either awesome and just got better as it went on! So looking forward to seeing more of this kind of thing!

Also music was pretty fine thou I am partial to just keeping the SC2 terran music on loop because of how awesome it is.

Awesome series--I loved Nony's blink strat.

Don't really get the bitching about reps. The point of this was to produce a great show, which happened, and it was available both live and on-demand for free. They should be able to control what their viewers see.

The site were the games are uploaded is being very glitchy and annoying for me. The games I've been able to watch have been nice though..

The ad thing comes up so often (not a huge deal but annoying)... and I've tried about 5 times now to watch Inka vs Jinro game 2 but it just keeps freezing and won't restart.

I agree,

we're still in Beta here. Retail hasn't shipped. So, i mean, everyone is still trying to figure things out and I think making these replays available to everyone else propels strategies and play-styles even further.

Is it possible to release replays in the distant future, once the sponsor stops caring about views of that particular match?

Great series!
Also, Day and Chill are excellent as a casting duo, especially now after all the casting during TSL when they have "found" eachother a bit more it seems. And thank you GLHF.tv - excellent quality!

It's ok not to release replays in a match as well covered as this, everyone gets the chance to watch the games. However. it would suck if it becomes the norm for everyone 'just because' but as long as there are streams and/or VODs I have no issue with it, I just wanna watch the games.

Grats to EG anyway.

Too bad there are no replays.
I just hope this doesnt end like BW where there are only vods of the good games.
Ustream is not bad but replays are simply like 100times better.

Is there something popping up asking you to download something? You may not have Java or whatever web app needs to run the embedded videos.
