In cooperation with OGN I started a new article series where I interview the Korean pro players and ask them about their career. So far there are two articles in this series. Next one is coming up.

1. Cloudtemplar
“I could see that in comparison to Azubu things became more structured. Training schedule, vacation part, every regular part became more structured and more methodically. At the same time I became more aware of my position as a professional.”

These teams started picking up the new talent and slowly replacing the old guard. A main reason why there is so much talent in Korea in CloudTemplar opinion is

“Korea is fundamentally a country with a strong mindset where only the first place is acknowledged. Every field is the same. Because of that e-Sports where Korea is the birthplace had also a lot of pride. With this in mind there is a need to win no matter what. “no matter what” winning atmosphere is emphasized. There is nothing besides doing well. It’s like putting your life on the line to game. The above described reasons are in correlation and formed an atmosphere where everybody has the need to perform good no matter what and “I need to become number one no matter what”. However players who were good in the past but when their form dropped a little they received huge criticism. Furthermore unlike other games LoL has very quick meta changes. Because these points stack up there aren’t many first generation players left.”

2. Cpt. Jack

Being on one of the best teams in Korea, Cpt. Jack also had opportunities to play against foreign teams in overseas tournaments, representing the Korean League of Legends scene. He had great successes, but also suffered defeat against foreign teams. For example, at IPL5 in Las Vegas, NV, his team only placed 7th overall. While playing against foreign teams, Cpt. Jack had to overcome different play styles which were not common in Korea.

“Foreign teams often make experimental picks. Plus, I think they really like fighting. Korean teams only use picks and bans that are tested and confirmed to be effective. When I face foreign teams, all I need in order to win is the confidence that I can win and that I’m the best. Ultimately, I think having lots of experience is the most important thing.”

Very well done and interesting, its a pity that the strongest region (by far) doesn't get more slots at worlds
When in doubt, just believe in yourself and press buttons

I think Korea probably should get one extra slot. Obviously they are head and shoulders above the rest of the world but part of the charm of the competition is to see the various regions compete against each other. I hope in the future they can create a weighted formula similar to UEFA champions league to both give regions slots and to seed them effectively and fairly.

Anyhow, I always like to hear the thoughts of the players. As CT said though, player turnover in Korea is huge. I'd be interested in hearing some thoughts from a player that's on top of the game right now. Would be interesting to see the contrast in their views.
