I remember Day[9] did a standup thing about eharmony. It was really funny but it made it sound like it was a kind of shitty site. I'm not sure if he was being serious about his review though

That was impressive, stand-up is really difficult.

More power to him!

as far as I know edating doesnt work. What I mean by that is that the success rate isnt higher than "real life dating".

Just think if e-dating would really work and everyone finds a partner there, then there wouldnt be any dating sites anymore. But the reality is they dont work, they promote with all kinds of stuff like psychological compability etc just to fool you.

my suggestion is go read some articles about "natural game" and try meat girls outside.

yeah to be completely honest op, don't even bother wasting time on online dating programs. Not to completely discredit it but, atleast to me, one of the real fun parts about getting with a girl is the actual "chase" part and just talkin/gettin to know them. "Game" is like 90% confidence, 10% the things you say and the way you talk to them. You'll get better and better the more you talk with girls, just don't show any signs of nervousness or being shy cuz i guarantee you they can feel it when you're like that and it could potentially be a turnoff. Seriously though, go for the real life thing

All the heroes in this thread have obviously never tried it but you definitely should because 90% of you are single and reading this on your computer anyways.

You would THINK it works like this. I''ve spent the last 4 years of my life in bars clubs blah blah spent thousands on booze and THIS is by far the greatest thing ever.

I signed up for an online dating site about a week and a half ago and it's pretty much the greatest thing ever created. 60% of the users are female...why? Why would girls "who get hit on all the time by guys in clubs" sign up for an online dating site? Most of them are either really hot or at least cute. Why would THEY sign up? Because every saturday night 3 things happen

1) Sober decent guys too pussy to approach them
2) Assholes/Drunk decent guys who look like idiots now approach them
3) Both get turned down and they all go home alone

The numbas speak!

On top of this they girls get probably 50 emails a day from guys who think they are heroic and are like "Hey send me nude pix" "hey gimme yo digits shortyyyy" "nice rack wanna webcam?". Im serious, so when you write a decent email that doesn't make you look like a needy pussy you are in the top 10% of what she would receive that day.

But yeah all you do is, create yourself a baller profile, only put up a few of your best pics and gogo. I usually 1 email a day from some new girl...not all hot, infact there are some real chubba chubbas who detail themselves as "average" in the weight catagory but are clearly 250. It's really wierd at first but once you get used to it its heroic cause you can wake up on sunday morning not shaven, not showered and hung over. Send out a few emails. Get a couple back GG!

and i use plentyoffish.com i think it's biggest in world.

My girlfriend of over two years (college professor with a PhD and cute) and I met on Match.com. Of course, this also means the following info is at least two years old then, but back then:

Match.com was always the most active, likely due to their advertising budget, and had the most robust "filter" options on their searches. Sadly, it is also quite expensive for a membership, and it doesn't indicate who is an active member and hence can reply on the site. If one can sneak in a contact method in your message it works fairly well though.

Okcupid.com was always a good site and it is 100% free. Decent searching options as well. It also encourages one to fill out a real profile with its setup so you get less of the generic "I like long walks on the beach and having fun" crap that tells you absolutely nothing about someone.

PlentyOfFish.com is free, but the worst in terms of the datability of the users. To top it off, the code and functionality of the site is the worst of the bunch.

Yahoo Personals were occasionally alright, but this has a membership fee again. It was dying back then, wouldn't be surprised if it was dead now.

eHarmony, True.com, etc were all worthless for me.
The melody of logic always plays the notes of truth.

Heres a couple emails from my inbox for all the haters...

Hey.. you seem like a pretty sweet guy.. and yes i do get a few older men that will try to buy me.. ahah.. so i just ignore them.. there's even one guy that is a painter.. and wants to make a portrait of me.. naked.. lol.. anyways.. haha.. and as for travelling, i've been to Scotland, the mountains of Italy, and the Rocky Mountains in Alberta.. so much fun!!
so tell me a bit more about you..

you wouldnt believe what kinda msgs ive gotten on here. ive had one dude ask me to have a three some with him and his gf. which ya wierded me out just a tad.
and ive had to hold my own since i was 16, moved out young, and ive always been the type who went my own way and did what i actually wanted to do so.

I think the most important thing is not to get discouraged when girls dont email you back. I fucked up so many the first few days and the site shows you the status of your message..almost all of mine were "read deleted"...But you have to just keep going and get over your ego. Last night i read this girl's profile and realized we were basically the same person, same humor etc. emailed her and i see "read - deleted"...In rage mode i emailed 4 others and they all replied so yeah just dont get discouraged if you suck.

One of my friends met their long term boyfriend of 2 years now on Eharmony, and they seem to be very happy. I think they plan on getting married soon.

I've browsed OKCupid (free), and it's like if MySpace were devoted entirely to hooking up/dating. I made an account the other day, and my profile is mostly empty except for a picture and I answered some of their "match questions" and there already are people rating/matching me. I'm not sure what to make of it.

Match.com is $20 a month, so it's expensive. I looked at it, and yeah someone already mentioned that you can't tell who signed up for the service or not, so you won't know if messaging someone is a waste of time or not.

From this, I would probably say try OkCupid, it's free and you've got nothing to lose, or if you want a really serious relationship try EHarmony and then if you get desperate go to Match.

go to school/college. youll either meet girls there or make friends that have parties w/ girls there. i dont recommend the "local" scene as far as clubs and bars... um because, to be nice, you have a better chance of meeting someone smart and interesting at school. the intraweb is not a good way to form that lifelong relationship... unless youre just looking for teh sex. then you go to club Meat Market. gl hf

don't you build your relationships by being with each other, and dating ect.

not by finding? though that might create a bond but thats different

The way I see it, the chance of you meeting a complete stranger at a bar/club/party who shares all your interests is very slim. Even if that soulmate is there, the odds of you both finding that out is pretty slim too as conversation doesn't really get that deep on first contact.

I don't see anything negative about relationships online as long as they quickly lead to a real-life encounter. Basically, use the sites to find potential partners and then set up a RL date and proceed like any other normal relationship. The initial starting point of contact - whether it's online, at a club, whatever - does not matter!
