I go to a really small high school, and besides my school's technology teacher, I'm the only one who knows crap about computers and electronics. Watching that reminded me of just how stupid some of the problems were that I've been called to deal with. I had one person who couldn't get into their account because caps lock was on. Someone hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and it didn't open the Task Manager (it opened another dialog giving options of shut down, log off, task manager, etc.) and freaked out. Several people have had problems with their mice or keyboards. Just about all the time it's because they're not plugged in. But one story was just plain sad. For project presentations in one of my classes, we had to use a laptop and projector. The teacher didn't know anything about either, so he enlisted my help. So, I basically ran the whole show, getting people's flash drives and other, stranger, USB storage devices plugged in and working, then CDs, the sound system for when there were videos or music, etc. I think I counted two people out of a class of 30 who didn't get the "The device was improperly ejected previously" warning, for those who used flash drives. One poor soul didn't even burn his project to the CD he brought--he thought he did, but whatever it was, he didn't burn to a CD. Working tech support is extremely frustrating, yet oddly satisfying. | ||
