So I just woke up out of sleep and my room was shaking...I thought maybe I had rolled over and shook my bed or something then my girlfriend called. She said she thought someone just busted in her house or something...then I got a call from my parents and it turns out an Earthquake just occurred! Everyone in my house started waking up and we were like "what the hell!??!"!

Turns out it lasted 30 seconds and it was the New Madrid fault ripping (I live in KY) and it was felt by people in New York!

FRIGGIN' EARTHQUAKE!

Awaken my child, and embrace the glory that is your birthright. Know that I am the Overmind; the eternal will of the Swarm, and that you have been created to serve me.

Yeah I thought it was just because I was sleepy or something and my bed....wow, kind of freaky. Not much news about it now but I know my dog was freaking out a few minutes before and kept barking...eerie.

I'm also in West Lafayette, IN :O and I was planning to wake up early but the stupid earthquake robbed me of the few precious extra minutes that I could have spent sleeping. It just felt like my bed was circling in place.

WTF?

I live in central Indiana, just north of Indianapolis and I didn't feel a thing.

Looking at facebook statuses, though, looks like lots of my friends did.

I guess I'm just dumb :[

One time, I was sleeping at my friends house when an earthquake hit. I was underneath a bookshelf with some trophies on top when the earthquake came. I woke up and went "meh..." (used to it because I live in cali) and then a trophy fell down and smacked me right in the forehead, and cut me up pretty well.

I live in Louisville too and I definitely slept straight through it. I didn't even know about it until I checked my Facebook and everyone thought that the cool thing to do would be to mention it in their status.

After that though I started to have this vague, dream-like memory of my mom coming into my room and mentioning something about the largest earthquake in awhile (at least for this region). I thought I was just dreaming about something that I had heard or read about in California. I guess she woke me up this morning or something.

Either way, unless it woke me up without me realizing it and I was doing some sleepwalking or something (which I've actually been known to do quite a lot), I definitely didn't notice it.

Well in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois we don't feel too many earthquakes. Now that I think about it it probably wasn't that big of a deal but the news took it and ran miles with it. They were like OMFG EARTHQUAKE and then started to interview rednecks (as always) who were like "I was sittin' der in 'mi trailer an' microwavin' sum' breakfast and I saw mi bedsheet curtains move an' 'mi wife screamed and I grabbed the shotgun."

But no doubt this is probably diagomi's fault.

Most Californians don't blink an eye at earthquakes because they're so common here. This is really something weird for people because earthquakes are pretty rare near the midwest.

I live north of Indianapolis, and I felt a tiny bit of shaking while I was sleeping. I thought it was just a dream though, and I was about half-conscious, so I just went back to sleep instantly. Didn't find out there was in earthquake until I woke up at like 6:45AM.

I was in the emergency room of a hospital today volunteering when this happened. It felt like the ground was rolling, it was really really weird. It is one of the biggest ones for sure in awhile. 5.8 earthquake.

Anyway, while the earthquake was happening, most of the nurses and people kinda were like ohhh crap and we stood under doorways for the protection. The doctor in the ED2 was with a patient and just kinda waited for it to be over, he was really chill. One of the ladies who was just wheeled in on a bed started crying like crazy and kinda panicking. The nurse told me to go talk to her, so I went over there to her bed. She could not speak English, only Spanish. So I was kinda like shaken and didn't really know what to say (only took spanish in high school), and ended up saying "hola," which was really pathetic. Another nurse came by and said to her "esta bien" then went away. She was saying something in spanish about her husband or something and crying so it was hard to understand.

Anyway, after the earthquake, like almost every single person was rushing to phones and calling their family and stuff to make sure they were okay and stuff. The siren went off in the hospital calling "Code Triad Internal." Overall, it was pretty interesting. Nobody panicked or anything, they were just kinda excited. Just wanted to share the experience of what being in an emergency room is like during a semi-big earthquake.

I didn't feel it at all in NYC.

Only knew about it because of the news and this. But an earthquake at such a magnitude causes a huge amount of damage. For all those who were affected by it in the slightest way -- best of luck getting through this. : (

The most exciting thing that ever happens in Holland is an above average amount of wind.

I should probably be happy about that.

I'm a little late on the earthquake. But I live in Southern California and I just felt an earthquake today. It was pretty crazy, because I have a swimming pool in my backyard and it was completely still. Then the earthquake comes and the water actually starts moving. This is the biggest one in a while.

Only one word - overdue.

Such a bad thread bump! It's only going to cause confusion.

seriously, the earthquakes arent even in the same area. Don't know what an Earthquake in SoCal has to do with one on the other side of the country that happened over three months ago.

I tried to convince my boss that we should evacuate the office for safety concerns and take the rest of the day off just in case.

Didn't work.

I was in class (2nd floor class) when this happened and I remembered that I don't really have reason to panic as buildings around here are pretty much designed to be earthquake proof, but then I remembered that I was at a community college and exited in an orderly fashion whilst polishing my monocle.

ahaha! i'm laughing so hard.
i was at local library and they decided to shut the library down for the rest of the day. true, hadn't had one like this in a while. sad that cell phones didn't work for about first 15mins. after quake hit. have to admit that it was pretty exciting since there was no major damages.

Today was actually the first day of the California bar exam, and the earthquake caused people in SoCal to miss the last 10 minutes of the morning session. It's funny because one of the bar review lecturers mentioned that a previous earthquake had screwed a lot of people out of time and that the bar association didn't care. Since I'm taking it in NorCal, I wish it would have occurred a bit earlier, then I would have practically been guaranteed to pass due to scaled scores.
