Let me first say that i am going to the dr to get it checked out monday, i just havent had time/hes been away.
on vacation i was walking out of a bathroom with sandals on and absolutely smashed my fuckin 2nd big toe on my left foot on a step. i thought i broke it at first, but i can move it a little now, so no big deal. but the toe nail is raised n bleeding n shit all over. its probably about 1/3 of the way off and it hurts like a mother fucker when i walk. theres a cut under it and every time i step, the nail digs in.
i know its gonna fall off eventaully, but im really not sure when. i tried googling it but coudlnt really find any info, just that it will grow back in 3-6 mo. its the front n side thats up, not the nail bed, so i know its coming back.
someone mentioned to me that if i soak it in water it will come up faster. ive been wrapping it daily and putting neosporin on it. my big concern is just not getting an infection at this point. is there any way i can speed up the process without ripping it off?
this happened to me when i smashed it on the corner of a door. It stayed on at a weird angle for a week and then one day when i was on the computer i just felt it fall off, A new one grew back and looks a bit different but still fairly normal.
this happened on the 12th i think. it looks like its gonna fall off soon, but its just hurts like hell when i walk and with school and work, i tend to do a lot of that ><.
uh.. for not getting infected, I suggest that everytime you shower, you use a blowdryer to dry off your feet asap, and then get some tea tree oil to swab over the nailbed. As for speeding up the process I have no idea... just be patient ^_^
omg, this happened to me to the 1st big toe some weeks ago. and it hurt painfully the first week. i also wanted to go to a doctor, but didnt got time for it, so i just waited and it "healed" from alone (no pain anymore)
When I was ~8 years old the same thing happened to me its just that it was a chair that smashed my toe and it was my big toe. After a few weeks it dropped off and a new toe nail grew back. The only problem I had was that the "new" toe nail looked a little weird ( thicker ) than the normal one for a little while but its normal now. When the origninal nail dropped off the other nail was 3/4 grown already but I'm not sure how it will be in your case.
I have an in grown toenail right now, I fucked it up skating without shoes out (smart i know), and it's been gushing blood for like 5 months. It got infected and i've gone to the doctor. I was told to soak it in warm water, and i put some crak on it called Mupirocin, and it is supposed to help. It didn't so I'm going to get my nail removed (drilled into my toe, ouch) on monday.

alot of ppl have 2nd toe longer than first.
those leonardo da vinci dudes in the 16th century did art where they all had longer 2nd toe than big toe, the reason was that they thought it was a ideal, and more beautiful.

go to a doctor, he'll spray some cold shit to make the shot feel like nothing, then inject some shit to numb your toe, then cut out the nail, and maybe cut out the matrix if thats a problem

just wait 6 month it will be completely cured.. it happened to my big toe once when i was playing basketball, it was painful when i walk but i didn't go to the doc, it took 6month to be completely cured i lost my toe nail for 8 month
Eh, dude I wouldn't be too worry about it getting amputated etc...but if you are digging into it and feeling pain, then of course healing will take longer and there is a chance of infection if you can see below the nail. The pain itself is not from the cut, but because you bruised it most likely. If there is no bleeding, then I wouldn't bother going to the doctor. If the pain is too much, go to the doctor and see what he can do. You can try wrapping it in some sports gauze too!
nail post rambo attempt. the son of a bitch cracked about 2/3 of the way down, so i clipped as much as i could so nothing was hangin off. feels a lot better.
