Leader of Revolutionary Council tell London-based As-Sharq al-Awsat that the only solution to regime's violence is armed uprising. The leader of the Revolutionary Council of the Syrian Coordination Committees, Mohammad Rahhal, said in remarks published Sunday that the council took the decision to arm the Syrian revolution. Since mid-March pro-democracy protests have engulfed most of Syria calling for political and economic reforms as well as for the ousting of Syrian president Bashar Assad. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/syrian-opposition-decides-to-take-up-arms-against-assad-regime-1.381184

True for friendly regimes like Bahrein but certainly not for enemies like Syria. Plus powerful western countries (especially the US) represent various different interests. I don't think it's correct to think of these countries (let alone the West as a whole) as individual actors or monolithic entities with clearly defined goals.

Russian diplomatic sources told Al Arabiya that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov would arrive in Damascus on Monday for talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem over the escalating situation in the country. According to the sources, Bogdanov will call upon Syrian authorities to withdraw the army and security forces from cities and to immediately stop the violence while warning that Damascus’s reluctance to respond to those demands will force Russia to support a Security Council resolution that imposes sanctions on Syria. Sources close to the Kremlin also revealed that Mikhail Margelov, chairman of the Federation Council International Affairs Committee, who hosted a delegation of Syrian opposition in Moscow a few weeks ago, will issue a firm statement following Bogdanov’s return from Syria. The statement, the sources added, will demand taking international action to stop the violence in Syria and protect unarmed civilians and will recommend imposing sanctions on the Syrian regime. http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2011/08/28/164414.html

Iranian news agency quotes remarks made by Syrian president during August meeting with Turkish FM; Assad: It will take Damascus 6 hours to mobilize against Israel. Syria will strike Israel and "set fire" to the Middle East if foreign forces choose to launch a military strike on the protest-ridden country, the Iranian news agency Fars quoted Syrian President Bashar Assad as saying on Tuesday, referring to remarks made by the Syrian leader during a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu last August. During a meeting with the Turkish FM, the Fars report claimed, Assad indicated that Syria would not hesitate to strike major Israeli cities if it was attacked. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/assad-syria-will-shower-tel-aviv-with-rockets-if-attacked-by-foreign-powers-1.388135

http://www.buenosairesherald.com/article/70635/russia-opposes-un-vote-on-syria-eu-to-expand-sanctions- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15177657 I like how the USA is outraged. This situation has been on for 6 months, someone tell them to stop the hypocrisy. On the other side, looks like Russia and China saw what happened the last time they abstained (Libya) and try to make up for that failure. Russia says they will veto any resolution that can legitimate any kind of military involvement against Syria, and have been during the last months the only to actually try and do something, try to force the authorities and opposition on negotiations. I hope this can be settled peacefully, by realizing a compromise between the actual regime and opposition, too many dead/injured/destroyed lives already.

Doubt it. I think Assad has come too far now to step back. All his allies are skeptical at best about his regime's future. I think Assad and everybody around him will face a sad fate, like Medvedev said.

Two weeks ago, once respected charity Amnesty International, claimed that it had “uncovered evidence” of an 18-year-old girl in Syria named Zainab al-Hosni, whose mutilated body was body had been decapitated and the arms and skin removed. Before long this story spread like wild fire, circulating throughout the multi billion dollar global mainstream media empire. Yesterday, the real bombshell dropped. It’s official: Zainab al-Hosni was back from the dead, and being interviewed on Syrian TV, stating, “I came to the police station to tell the truth. That’s what I say to those lying channels – I’m now still alive, not dead”. Source Edit: This is why I compare stories from various outlets. I edited this post simply because the source was infowars. The same story is also up on several major-media outlets as well.
