It doesn't say how old they are - for all you know, the businessman could be a 50 year old entrepreneur, whereas the other one is an elderly 70 year old retiree who doesn't feel the need to wear power suits anymore. But yes, poverty is very real in India. | ||

In melbourne a young women was walking home from the bar to her home. She was raped and killed by a total stranger (not a common event), and the outpouring of emotion over the incident led to this walk of support. When i saw this photo i was amazed/humbled that so many people would walk. | ||

I think it's more that she's a young white female (of course I emphasise that it's a heartbreaking event, but when you think about it - things like Schapelle Corby happen all the time but never get significant coverage or public outrage because they're random men who are captured and jailed, for example). It's just human nature to feel more protective and white knightish about young white women being attacked. Again, like I say, it's a horrible event, but contrary to what you say, it is quite a common event. | ||
