Hey everyone! I'm new here but I've always respected TL. I'm really interested in computers and drooling over items on Newegg. Just thought I'd share one of my personal coding projects. This one is coded in PHP and Javascript. I'm actually using it now and I'm thinking about getting a waiting for newegg to ship me my GTX 470
Thanks for any comments ^_^

How it works:

* Collects the names and scores of top-rated items from selected benchmark source
* Searches Newegg (sorted by Best Rating or Lowest Price), finds price and rebate
* Widget calculates "Points per Dollar" for each item
* All data is stored on the server for quick access
* All data is updated automatically once per hour
* Entire update process takes about ten minutes

Features:

* User is able to edit scores and benchmark scores
* Useful if user found a better price somewhere else, or overclocked the item
* Simply click on a price or score to edit (only affected locally)
* Red text: User has edited data

* Columns are sortable (click on column header)

* Item names are clickable links to that item on Newegg

* Rebates can be applied to prices, recalculating Points per Dollar (upper right)
* Blue text: rebates have been applied

that's great. can you do the same thing for other hardware parts?

i would love if the script would gather info for the most important pc parts and made a custom PC depending on users input ( how many dollars he is willing to spend).

Well, the video card I identified as the best deal as far as bang for buck goes (about 8 months ago) is the #1 choice... so you're doing something right! :O

This would be great but I'd have to do this for every item, and make sure everything was 100% compatible. But I'll consider it if more people want automatically generated builds. Maybe I can have some kind of sidebar where you can add items, like a wishlist of sorts.. I'll think about it

Very cool. I need to get a new computer over the summer, so I'll keep this in mind. I'm only able to run SC2 on the lowest of low settings. I've even got the resolution at 1024x768x16. And it's still not perfectly smooth. Oh, crappy computer from UB in '06, you did not age well.

Also, you go to RIT? I live in Rochester. Small interweb.

If you could get multiple benchmark sources, then that would be so cool. (AKA I have misgivings about Tom's Hardware sometimes)

Ahhh damn...

If only Newegg had a wide selection like they do in US in Canada, I'd buy almost all of my electronics there T.T

TigerD is O.K. but their price lines are a bit high imo.
the throws never bothered me anyway

Not quite the same, but I use the invisible hand add-on to search some main sites for cheaper prices. newegg is included in that search, but it is not necessarily the cheapest price.

No reviews, ranking are included. Just prices.

I meant combined...you have one or the other right now.

They don't use the same scoring system. The values can't be compared.

This is very impressive!

Is it in the realm of possibility for this to be used on other sites (like my own) with proper attribution? If not, would you allow me to link it from my site?

I'm currently in the design process of Geekanerd.com, which will sell (perhaps just a Newegg affiliate at launch) games, hardware, clothes, etc. relating to PC / LAN Gamers.

Sure, it doesn't bother me as long as I get credit. Just don't rely on it too heavily because if any of the sites involved change their HTML, everything will break I'll fix it, but it could be a day or two. This is just a personal project of mine so I'll do my best but I can't guarantee results forever =]

Tom's Hardware had them. Passmark didn't because I was only grabbing the top 150 cards. Fixed now, though, to feature all of them in the list (check Passmark CPU Source).

Really cool... I can't actually buy from newegg, but it's really helpful to check out if I'm not making any stupid decisions. =P

It doesn't seem to work on Chrome though.

Anyone interested in these scores? I could add them as a benchmark source as well... I just tested my 470 and it scored 16110, and this page "estimates" at 15000 which is reasonable.
