It's actually interesting that Steam doesn't disclose developer accounts on reviews. That would remove quite a bit of ambiguity from the process. There's probably some tricky edge cases with personal and developer accounts and statuses changing retroactively and all that, but it still seems a pretty useful thing to disclose one way or the other. I guess it really isn't much of an issue since companies with enough voting power don't usually benefit much from 10 reviews or so. In Stormgate's case it probably can make some small difference to turn mostly negative to mixed, especially before the Steam RTS fest coming later on in the month. Not sure how significant that is, but it might affect discoverability or such maybe. | ||

If they release a big patch with a lot of cool stuff in a month or two that will give them a much bigger boost than a few fake reviews. Really amateur stuff, especially with how sensitive the RTS community is with them already. Even if it's not really a big deal (in my eyes), you know a lot of players will be upset over this. | ||

I was banned on r/Stormgate so I searched for other discussion platforms. This guy won't answer you, because he is not a real person. I don't know but who gives a shit? This should be the least of anyone's worries on the face of the earth. I find this point of view pretty naive. FG make the shit up every time they get an opportunity. Responding with "Who give a shit" will just help them with damage control. This encourages more bullshit and so on. Everyone decides what is important or interesting for them. The subreddit is filled with fans of the game who defended the alleged fake reviews as well for not being credible. Whether they are or aren't I'm not here to discuss but I think they tend to see things through rose-tinted glasses so I wouldn't put much weight in that. You can see that when you contrast the comments in the RealTimeStrategy thread to the one on Stormgate. It is weird that if the steam reviews are fake, then frostgiant has shown they aren't afraid to astroturf perception and would make sense for them to do it in the AMA too. Why were the questions asked and then account deleted? I mean seems a bit odd no? Like what someone would do if they were covering something up. Sorry to bump the conspiracy thread but I don't really think there is much in the way to say its' one way or the other at this time. | ||

Compromised reviews that are intended to try to sway the all-important Recent Reviews score on Steam have a much, much more significant impact. They don't just provide some opportunity for the company to write some stuff they want to communicate anyway, they directly imply what other players think about the quality of the game itself. I actually think a deleted account that asked a ton of super-informed questions is probably kind of suspicious, but I don't think people should get distracted by that when the Steam thing is so much more egregious. EDIT: Yeah I found your comment hilarious, EonZerg. Not actually a hater of this company and haven't tried the game for myself but it does feel like it's starting to trend more towards a ripe opportunity for documentary, or at least some youtube drama videos, rather than a game release. | ||
