EPTGems in fact do not ever have their XP reduced so they level plenty rapidly regardless of the level of your character.
However, starting from level 15 gems level much much slower and from level 17 they level almost excessively slowly.

I'm level 52, probably gonna kill cruel Dominus soon (and by soon I mean "after work"  ). I'm juuuuust able to be "Cast on Crit" as opposed to just rain of arrows (my levelling skill). However, I'm still pretty reliant on my buddy's high-level clarity (also his hatred plus conduit power charges help a lot lol). I can't decide if i wanna try to get EB and go self-sufficient on mana or just sink my next ~10 points into life (hell, could be my next 20 rofl). I'm at about 2k hp which isn't the absolute worst but isn't amazing either. PS single target suxxors with this build. | ||

I'm 54 (close to 55), just beat Dominus on cruel (had to TP out a few times in the final phase though). My fire ress sucks balls the rest is ok (2,4k HP, -7 fire, 55 cold, 51 light, 51% red phys). 630'ish DPS is not amazing but since Spectral Throw is really OP (I now know what people were talking about, ST+softcore you can yolo nearly everything even if your gear sucks; did Piety runs in Cruel with 12 fire ress xD). I wear a blue 2 hand axe I crafted with the %phys recipe... Way better than any rare weapon I found up until now. Before I used Geofri's that dropped in Sins (cruel) for me. RNG is sick in this league atm. Found a 15q RoA, too... | ||

My resistances are actually not the worst but merciless is gonna wreck me there lol (obviously). Cast on Crit is actually pretty rough to gear since my build needs every drop of crit chance it can get, while still obviously needing life/resists. | ||

Before I used Geofri's that dropped in Sins (cruel) for me. RNG is sick in this league atm. Found a 15q RoA, too... I'm getting the feeling that someone turned the RNG to 11 in this league, after finding a 5L chest in cruel lower passage. I mean, wtf? | ||

I dont know how exactly your build works but dual wield Ungil's gives you insane block and really good crit base to work with. | ||

I was gonna be a Cast-on-Crit char but I'm already making that. Might make a different flavour of cast-on-crit we'll have to see lol. It's hard to go back to balanced shit after playing chars like this one even though I'm only level 63 lol. | ||
