I have a bunch of mods and most of them do ok, I wish the combat was improved and I got one for shield/sword, but it still is kinda weak and transparent.
I'm also starting anew, so my sneak level is nothing.

I mentioned SkyRe before. While it's still a work in progress, I loved it while I was still playing. Once I get a computer that can actually run Skyrim decently well, I'll most likely keep using it again. It's basically an overhaul of the combat and sneak systems, racial abilities, perk trees, and stuff like that. Check it out if you haven't already; it's at Skyrim Nexus under "T3nd0's Skyrim Redone" or something similar. The combat gets much more fun and intense with SkyRe installed. If you're just starting out, then yes, use hide armor if you can afford to lose the extra protection from heavy iron armor.

Also, I don't really want the perks and all that to change, just really the battle systems.

As for SKSE, I'll walk you through the installation. I don't mean to be patronizing or condescending or anything, but it's simply easier for everyone involved when you've got clear instructions from the start to the finish, y'know? + Show Spoiler [Walkthrough] + Firstly, you need to put some files from the download into your Skyrim root folder. If you're using Steam, the directory should be something like Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\. If you find a folder that has both TESV.exe and SkyrimLauncher in it, you've found the right folder. Put the following files from the download into the root folder:
Next, open the Data folder accessed from the root folder you just put those files in. Go to the Scripts folder from there. Now, open your Data folder packaged within the SKSE download, and open the Scripts folder in there too. Copy EVERY file in that folder with the .pex extension, and paste it in the Skyrim\Data\Scripts\ folder. You should notice a "Source" folder within the Data\Scripts\ section of the SKSE download, containing a bunch of files with the .psc extension. If you want to use the Creation Kit and create or compile Papyrus scripts, then copy those in to the appropriate subfolder in the root folder. If not, you can safely ignore those, as they are optional. There are several remaining files within the SKSE download that you have not touched, but you can ignore them. The "src" folder's contents are only useful for programmers, and the other files are readmes and stuff. At this point, you are finished installing SKSE. The important part is this, though: whenever you launch Skyrim, do so via the skse_loader.exe program you moved to Skyrim's root folder. Otherwise, SKSE will NOT work. If you use Nexus Mod Manager to launch Skyrim, you can set the program to launch from skse_loader.exe instead of TESV.exe, so you don't need to open your root folder every time you want to play. Once you've launched the game via skse_loader.exe, SKSE will load and take care of the rest for you. You are now free to move about the aisle. Hope this helps! If SKSE still isn't working after following these instructions exactly, you should contact the guy who makes it. His email can be found in the readme enclosed within the download.

Those who play Skyrim on the Playstation3 will unfortunately need to wait longer for Hearthfire; there is currently no announced release date for Hearthfire on that platform.

Releasing such minor content and placing a $5 price tag on it does not seem like a behavior to encourage. As far as I can tell, there is exactly one mod that does what Hearthfire does. Sure, there are plenty of house mods, but most are complete garbage.

I mean, the game throws free houses at you nonstop, I don't have any huge desire to own everything everywhere in the game world nor is the little bit of customization from that mod particularly interesting to me. The whole house-buying part of the game just seems so tacked on. I guess we're supposed to buy and pimp out a house in every town at the end of the game once you run out of quests. Maybe this is nicer than trying to kill everyone.

But the location is specific to only one place (Hearthfire has three), and the customizations is not as many as what Hearthfire provides. I would say if the mod works with Hearthfire, they would complement each other quite well.

A few hours in, and I stumble across sightless cave while just running around exploring. I'm level 5 at the moment. I haven't been manually saving, because I haven't run into any problems that I couldn't just run away from. Fuck.
