it means what it says. If you meet X criteria, you win the game.

However, in some formats you cannot affect certain players. .. how is this resolved

I assume some sort of team format? Could you elaborate the format?
I know the ruling in two headed giant for platinum angel is such that your team cannot lose and the opp team cannot win that's because you share everything in that format you're a combined individual rather then two players on the same team.

I assume you're looking for some sort of team format in which if one team member loses the game the team loses the game. But alias i don't play many formats.

There are plenty of win condition cards hell battle of witts is a Mega Cycle reprint of the Odyssey block.

Unless there is an overriding condition (such as you opponent controlling a Platinum Angel or you control an Abyssal Persecutor) then you win the game.

In nearly all cases of Magic, you do what's written on the card (or do exactly what the Oracle text says).

Correct. For example, I played with ~200 people at once in the Grand Melee @ GP Houston, we could only effect people to our left and right, so when one guy got Azor's Elocutors rolling, he'd kill 2 people per turn.

Yeah, based on what the card says, it doesn't affect your opponents at all. You can win the game not just by making your opponents lose; you can just, win the game, lol. You can not only prevent the others from winning, you can simply take the win for yourself. If that makes sense.

MoonBear's right in that you need to watch out for stuff like an opponent's Platinum Angel or if you're stuck with an Abyssal Persecutor, but the theory otherwise holds true.

Ok apparently the comprehensive rules allow for limited range of influence and it wasn't some one-off Grand Melee thing (also apparently Grand Melee is a thing in the comprehensive rules zzz).
If you are playing a multiplayer game using the limited range of influence option, alternate win conditions just cause all opponents in your range of influence to lose the game. If you aren't using the limited range of influence option then you actually just win and everybody else loses.

Finals of GP Miami

Junk Reanimator versus Jund. Brad Nelson managed to get outplayed by Reid Duke in the semifinals despite a pretty solid board and it was a good series of plays by Duke to corner Nelson.

It really feels like you simply can't win unless you're playing green atm :/ Jund midrange/aggro, Gruul deck wins, Junk aristocrats, Junk reanimator, Humanimator, Naya blitz, Naya Midrange, Bant hexproof, Bant Midrange/control, top 14-16/16 are these every week.

Then you look at the decks that lack green: UWR control/geist, Esper Control, RDW, R/x Aggro Grixis control, even Aristocrats and act 2 are almost gone. Look at the top 16 of any event lately, and it's hard to find more than any 2 of these anywhere in there. Even esper control has been gone for months until last weekend's resurgence of a couple decks.

Well it's a creature based format and Green has almost always had the best creatures, and doesn't hurt that farseek is still probably the best card in the format...

It's more like this format only has like 2 to 3 decks where your decisions "matter" because there's a pretty good amount of just doing what is good for you on any given turn without too much consideration for what the opponent has namely because the repercussions aren't game ending for the most part. Not saying there's no play to these decks, but its more about choosing the right line for the deck you are playing and not really as much as about the opponent could have. The pay off for the opponent not having it is so good that taking the risk isn't all that bad.

Like in the Nelson-Duke match up, it doesn't matter if Nelson had his answers to Olivia or not, you still play the Olivia if you are the Jund player on the turn you have 4 lands. There's a lot of situations like that in this standard.

Yes it's very threat based. Who cares if they have an answer just keep dropping threats cause the time they don't have the answer you win.

I just recorded my first draft using the built-in feature and converted it to plain text. Is this the best format to convert it to? Hopefully I can finally get some feedback on my drafting by using this functionality (otherwise I'm not sure how to figure out what you are doing right/wrong). Note that I took shocks even if I did not think they were helpful with my deck.

If you convert the draft file, convert it to image format, the text is really hard to follow. Otherwise just post the format of the original.

Pack 1 your picks were pretty much okay. I wouldn't have taken any of the gatekeepers, I would've taken Cluestones or Deputy of Acquittals or something. You also took Riot Control (a totally unplayable card) over two decent white cards.

Pack 2, pick 1, I guess you took Foundry as a money pick? You don't have any red cards, so the Spectacle is likely much better. Pick 2, Syndicate Enforcer is below average, it's a very expensive low impact creature. It's much worse than Angelic Edict, and at this point you're not committed to black. Pick 9, Debtor's Pulpit is actually fine so I would've taken that over a card you'll never play maindeck.

Pack 3, pick 3, it was a huge mistake to not just slam Collective Blessing. You have only 2-3 good black cards, and your deck quality at this point is extremely low. Blessing is one of the best cards in the entire format and instantly makes your deck twice as good, and you already have a Tomb and 2 good green cards, plus an entire pack of Selesnya to go. The mana would be awkward, but it's better than what you ended up with. Also note grabbing those Cluestones in pack 1 would've put you in a better spot here.

P3P4 easy Selesnya Sentry, Swift Justice is not a good card and you should always take a mediocre creature over a mediocre trick when you have so few threats. P3P5 wow, Drainpipe Vermin is a completely unplayable card and Knightly Valor is the best white common in RtR, so I'm not sure why you made that pick at all. P3P7, Ethereal Armor is not good, but better than Cremate.

Overall: I don't think your choice to stick to white was bad, I think I would have taken the Gruul War Chant and ended up with some kind of gruul or naya deck, but again, it's a hard format to draft. The packs were weak for your colors and you ended up somewhere near where you were supposed to be, but you should've been open to taking the Cluestones/nonblack cards and after a pretty empty pack 2 for Orzhov, you would've been in a good spot to draft Selesnya or Azorious in pack 3. Your biggest mistake was passing Collective Blessing when you weren't too color committed. And again, stop playing 1-mana 1/1's. Even Catacomb Slug would be an improvement.
