Well, these are professionals that get paid huge amounts of money. They get held to a higher standards then people playing basketball in a backyard or a playground. I also don't think any of us know the extent of any of the trash talk that gets done on the court as well as I don't think it's as much as you are claiming. Once again, NBA and "balling" two different things two different standards.

Just because they get paid lots of $$ doesn't change the fact they are playing a game. Imaginary rules such as "no trash talking" and "dont get down on all fours" are irrelevant. The game is competitive and there will always be trash talking. And yes there is a lot of trash talking in the NBA. Balling in The Garden isn't going to make players just change their behavior. Remember most of these guys grew up playing ball on the block or in the park.

How is it that people are still up in arms about Garnett talking trash yet nobody has ever mentioned the non-stop affairs and sex-capades detailed in "Jerry West: The Life and Legend of a Basketball Icon"?

These aren't standards or morality, it's just some weird desire to have the world run according to someone's belief system.

They already give technicals for hanging on the rim, staring at people after you make a basket, celebrating too much after you make a basket, or bouncing the ball too hard in frustration.

So why is it a small minority of people getting chest to chest with players and ect? Everyone starts playing ball somewhere usually not in a gym, but as professionals most of them learn better. I grew up with a rough side on my dad's side, but I'm not going to go into an interview and say, "Hey you son of a bitch motherfuck, hows about you and me get a drink and we talk about my new job?" There are new standards when you join the work force and the NBA is no exception. Yes, there will always be shit talk, but all players know what should and should not be tolerated.

I think you're mixing up trash talk in the game with physical antics as a result of player emotions. If you're there with the ball in your hand telling another guy he can't guard you and you pop a jumper in his eye and taunt him that's nothing. When players are about to fight and get physical it's no longer trash talking and that's when everyone has the right to complain. KG elbowing Q Rich is obviously dirty especially since it happened when the game wasn't even in play but I'm more alarmed about you guys fretting over what comes out of his mouth.

I'm just glad it was a competitive game. As long as I have games to look forward to, I'll be happy. Granted I'm from NY so my feelings for basketball games has been relegated to hoping the team I root for keeps it close.

Clevland vs Chicago - 4-1
Orlando vs Bobcats 4-2
Atlanta vs Milwaukee 4-1
Miami vs Boston 4-3 - wade has been playing great all season and depending on whether his team can provide solid support. Boston while not the powerhouse of 2 yrs ago is still playing well but can the team with old experienced players keep up with the fast pace of the heat ? I dont think so.

Lakers vs OKC 4-2
Dallas vs Spurs 4-3
Phoenix vs Portland 3-4 - Portland have somehow imo played damn well with all the injuries this year and even without roy still managed to win game 1. I think with all the lineup changes many other teams dont have the solid counter against portland. This will be close but im going for portland.
Denver vs Utah 4-3. Two of the top west teams battle it out. This is going to be a 7 game series as both teams have what it takes to go through. However with Utah not having a few good players Im going to say Denver.

I play / have played basketball competitively. There's a difference between just talking trash and what KG does. There's also a difference between talking trash and being able to back it up (ok, it's fine if you talk shit and are a top 5 player because nobody can really talk back to you), and it's a totally different thing to talk just as much shit but be totally washed up.

That's the problem I have with KG now - I didn't mind him in the past because he was GOOD as fuck, it's like people put up with Idra for talking shit because he's good and he can back it up. A random newb can't talk the same amount of shit.
