One of the Terran stars of the NA scene, Chris "Illusion" Lee has made a huge mark on the North American professional StarCraft 2 scene. A former member of the team Quantic and Vile, Chris has shown his ability in both individual and team tournaments.
Name: Chris Lee Team: ROOT Race: Terran Country: USA Birthday: March 4, 1996
24th Place MLG Providence National Championship: + Show Spoiler +
From the treacherous MLG Open Brackets, our hero defeated players such as Attero, KawaiiRice, teammate Spanishiwa and even Liquid Sheth to advance to the championship bracket of the MLG National Championship. Illusion was finally defeated by Liquid Haypro (who went on to place 7th overall after beating Nestea).
Illusion qualified for IEM Sao Paulo, after defeating EG Demuslim 3-0 in the US/Canadian Qualifiers! Illusion also took out notable players such as Liquid Ret and KawaiiRice during his run in the tournament.
2nd Place One Nation of Gamers StarCraft 2 Invitational:+ Show Spoiler +
Illusion fought his way up to the finals, dropping sets only to Stephano and Kas. Due to the forfeit of Stephano, Illusion was able to advance to the finals to face Kas after defeating Catz 3-0. Unfortunately, the Destroyer was too much for our hero, but Illusion nevertheless was able to have a great tournament and walk away with the silver.
Illusion had an amazing run through the most stacked open bracket in StarCraft 2 history, beating notable players such as Zenio (2-0), Kiwikaki (2-1), Ryung (2-1) and Oz (2-1)
Illusion had a great run through this tournament, taking out Incontrol, NoNy and Sleep, and only narrowingly falling to qxc in the finals to take the silver.
Illusion is playing right now in the IPL Team Arena Challenge 2 against FXO! The odds are stacked against him, but can he pull off the miracle comeback for Vile?

Do not apologize for the game you lost, rejoice for the games you won. Going into this match, many people were predicting a complete one-sided slaughter and all-kill. But you and your team gave it your all. You guys went against FXO's finest, knocking down Gumiho, Choya and Lucky, three players who are Code S or were Code S at some point.
As Jinro said:
Pretty sure that was the hardest Asd has ever had to try in a game to win
Remember, this was a guy who as Code S for several seasons and almost knocked out MMA during GSL October.
Congrats vileIllusion and good luck in the rest of the tournament
I've always known Illusion for awhile, it seems after his impressive MLG run that he's been improving at an incredible rate. Illusion.. I will sign up for your club under one condition: ruinmapleee@yahoo.com (realidkthxbye)
Illusion has been selected as one of the players to participate in MLG Winter Arena NA Qualifiers. Top 8 from these qualifiers gets a paid trip to NYC to play in the MLG Winter Arena. Best of luck Illusion!
Illusion is not done yet! He still has to play the 3rd place matches against Catz. Go Illusion!
Edit: This just in! Due to the forfeit of Stephano, if Illusion beats Catz, he advances to the finals against Kas. Go Illusion! Edit: Illusion wins Game 1! Wins Game 2 after sick comeback MKP-style! Game 3 won as well, dominating performance, 3-0 win over Catz!
I been playing all day yesterday and today, almost no break so my mouse hand was really stiff during stephano series. Also playing stephano made me a bit nervous T_T. No excuses though, i tried to play better afterwards and I'm happy with where I got.

Congrats on the silver man! Great play today, and no shame on losing to guys like Stephano and Kas.

Dont worry about the Stephano matches. The last weeks you killed alot of good players. Hope to see you alot more in EU tournaments.

Don't be sad man, you show us great games. I didn't know you before this tournament tbh, and you're really good !
All right, looks like the MLG Winter Arena NA Online Qualification Brackets are up: http://i.imgur.com/eNjW8.jpg
Illusion starts off with a bye in Round 1, but has to face Reign Artist in Round 2. Tough opponent, but Illusion definitely can take Artist down. In Round 3, he then faces either Kiwikaki, ostojiy, or Naama. Kiwikaki is always a tricky guy to play against, full of tricks and traps, while the very aggressive Naama has been training in Korea and has appeared to significantly improved his game. Best of luck Illusion!
Sign me up plz! At first I didn't really like him without knowing much about him (thought he was cocky or something during the IEM), but I saw his stream couple of times and I want to see him stream again now =D (which is something rare for a foreign terran), plus even if he is from NA he sometimes play on the EU server
Illusion Im 15 also and ur probably one of my biggest inspirations in SC2. Whenever i feel like i can't play another match i see u pushing ur self to play more and get better and that's how i do it to. are u a freshman in highschool?
Takes game 1 on Shakuras Plateau, destroying dde's main with a double drop!
dde takes game 2 on Entombed Valley after both players open cloaked banshee. However, dde's banshee does more damage, and the advantage spirals out of control
Illusion takes game 3 on Antiga Shipyard with a banshee, hellion marine attack against dde's FE. Illusion takes the series 2-1!
Illusion goes up against iSCrazingMoving tomorrow in Round 5 of the MLG Open Bracket. The former Code A zerg will be tough, but so is our hero. Go Illusion!
Congrats on that run made a bigger name for yourself than before pretty impressive. Guess Vile's not just for come and go's like Spanishiwa, Illusion got some mad potential.
Been waiting for that kind of a breakout performance from him. Awesome job, unfortunately was a bit overshadowed by Scarlett for some reason. Damn internet.
I'm not a fan of fanclubs, but do sign me up for Illusion's. I learned a ton from his stream, and I'm not surprised at his IPL4 results... he's underrated and it's a shame. Good job Chris!
I'm not quick to sign up for a Terran's fan club, but Illusion has impressed me for so long that it just seems wrong that I haven't joined the fanclub yet. Sign me up!
I'll be casting some games from Illusion's most recent replay pack, if anyone's interested in tuning in. I'd guess the Illusion games will start in like 20 minutes or so. Stream link's in sig, VODs will be posted to my Youtube, also in sig.
Illusion will be on ChanmanV's Pro Corner (Ep 41) with KawaiiRice, as the two young Terrans of NA go over TvZ strategies. Show starts tonight (4/24) at 12:00 am EST
Thanks for the support guys and Bagration for always being active and being a good fanclub manager, I see you everywhere! I promise stream will return. At the latest it will be next week, soonest being thursday. A few things have been going on not under my control so I haven't been able to broadcast as much as I used to. Hope you guys are still out there! If you haven't checked it out yet, http://drop.sc/packs/885, my games at IPL vs Zenio/Ryung/Oz. I don't release replays too much nowadays, maybe i will again with a price or just once a month, we'll see. Thanks again~

Interesting... I assume that means he is going to leave Vile?
With the Vile management changing or whatever that whole shindig is, it's a possibility, I guess. Could Illusion be the "non-Korean who's contract is almost up" that Carmac hinted at? Carmac would of course know who Illusion is.
Damnit; nooo would not like it if he does leave vile. on the other side; he has the potentional to join a very solid team. It would just be a sort off HuK thing to me :o
In all seriousness; i just think he loves europe so much thats why the twitter name change :3

I'm not sure if his twitter name change necessarily means he is joining the team Real, since I recall someone mentioning that he had a ladder account by that name (not 100% sure of this).
It could be EG. EG recently had a tweet that strongly suggested that they were looking to pick up a new player. Furthermore, guys like TT1 have speculated that EG would probably pick up some Vile guys, especially since it seems that Vile and EG occasionally do practice together. But this is all just my speculations

yea but who does vile really have ......
Vile is a solid team, they have a lot of strong, underrated players.
I'd be both happy and sad if Illusion went to EG. I think he's an amazing player and I like seeing some of the smaller teams still having high end talent. At the same time, a player like him deserves greater recognition!
The downside is that he participated in our FRB Grand Tournament, but if he goes to EG I'm not sure he'd be so available for the second event.

I heard this rumor, about a pretty good player, maybe the next great foreign terran, illusion. I catched a game here and there, and he wasn't bad, yet nothing special.
Today I saw him in the fewer ressources per base tournement against ganzi, and he went reaper hellion banshee drop and that really was inspiring.
He was on a team called Vile, which I did not care too much about, since their roster was rather lackluster. Now he is with quantic, where nani, king of my heart residents while destiny was gone. So no more reason to not cheer for Quantic but one more.
Yet I have to conclude I am not a converted fan of anykind to this illusion, but I will surely keep a close Eye on his future games and might add him to the players I cheer for, no matter what.
Till then, farewell, do well, and keep kicking ass!
That series vs Ganzi was beautiful! Even the game Illusion lost I thought was very well played, but game 3 with the reaper-hellion-banshee opening... Wow! Definitely a fan.
cool interview, sit still man :D looks like your more nervous when giving an interview then when actually playing the game! ^^ or you might just love to swing around on chairs.. anyway..
awawwwwww, a few seconds off +3 armor aaahhh argh, well played you showed you are right up their, gl with the rest off the games. I believe in you! Omg your dropping is sick! well played, very nice
Illusion is going to be at IPL 4 man invitational at Hot Import Nights! His opponents? 2 GSL champions, DRG and MMA, as well as a Dreamhack champion Hero. Underdog for sure, but he definitely has the ability to score a huge upset. Go Illusion!
silentvico - how about his macro? its silly to just note the fact his micro is awesome, but his expanding and macro is on a whole other level then.. well alot off people. he micro's the heck out off his units, then he is like, well ok let's retreat and group up with HOWLY SHIT BANANA ...this whole new group off units. :D
goodluck at IPL fight club! gonna be awesomeee, no pressure is good! ps build them ravens is my new quote ;< doesn't roll of my tongue as awesome as ghosts tho..
Illusion is playing this weekend at MLG's Summer Arena! After a close 1-2 loss to TSL Revival, Illusion has a pair of TvT, facing qxc, then the mirror sniper Ryung himself. Good luck!
Also, I do have to ask a favor from you Illusion fans out there. TL did a video interview with Illusion, and I've added to the OP via copy and paste. However, I'm currently in China right now where Youtube is blocked, so I can't check if it is embedded correctly. Can someone please tell me if the video is embedded correctly? Thanks, much appreciated.
Hey Chris, if you are reading this, I would just like to that I hope you sign up for the NASL Season 4 Qualifiers! It would be awesome to see you in the NASL, and the qualifers aren't too stacked yet.
Short interview on B-net with Blizzard, pre-WCS. Since it was an interview with multiple players, I'll give Illusion's answers below:
Tell us a bit about where you’re from and what representing your country in the WCS means to you.
Illusion: I'm from the USA. Representing USA in WCS is important to me because foreigners in general are seen as generally worse than Koreans. This is my chance to show that I am one of the best foreigners and I can compete at the top, foreigner or not.
What would you like to say to all your fans supporting you back at home?
Illusion: Thanks for giving me a chance to be where I am today, I’d like to say that I've earned it, but I couldn't have done it without the community's support. I hope to represent the NA region in the Global Finals of WCS.
Alright Illusion fans! IPL is holding a community vote to see which foreign players the community wants to see at the Korea vs the World showmatch at IPL 5. The top voted players will have a shot to play in a qualifer to see who can go to Las Vegas and represent the World.
North America's finest Terran, a player who has beaten several Code S players, including Code S semifinalists Oz and Ganzi, as well as players such as Ryung and Zenio, needs your votes! Illusion fans, here's your chance to really make a difference.
Guys! Everyone tweet to husky and day9 about that losira game, make them broadcast it, cause that was so freakin insane! Gogo! Spread the illusion awesomeness

probably the most impressive thing about Illusion's style is that it's entirely his own. His hellion/marine opening allows him to hit some very nice and unconventional timings, in an era where most Terrans have turned to han bang timing attacks.
there's nothing wrong with doing a build that everyone who is slightly competent knows how to do, but it doesn't require skill when anyone can do it.
it takes skill and a lot of critical thinking outside the game to develop your own style and logic justifying it.
the greatest players in the history of Starcraft have all revolutionized match ups, and changed the way we play the game through the way they set themselves apart from their peers.
I don't know if Illusion came up with it but he had an awesome tactic in his MvP game against Rain on Daybreak. It was the midgame and he placed 4 tanks behind the mineral patches at Rain's third while having a standard MMM + viking composition against Rain's standard zealot + stalker + sentry + colossus army. Rain's army was stuck in his third. Illusion would send his vikings in to kill the colossi and every time Rain would move his stalkers up to kill the vikings they got destroyed by the tanks. Really cool play.
Illusion managed to get ahead in the early and midgame in both his games against Rain who is tearing up OSL and GSL, an impressive feat to be sure. Hopefully more people will recognize him as one of the top foreigners soon.

Hmm, it was just announced on IPTL that unfortunately AzubuViolet pulled out of IPL's DICE Showdown, a 4 player invitational tournament. Why am I mentioning it here? Because it seems like Illusion may be Violet's replacement. Gogo Illusion!
Thanks for supporting and watching that tournament guys! Yeah I wish I had a chance to play Lucifron, I think my chances were fairly good vs him as his TvT statistically is weak. Either way it was a fun tournament and I enjoyed me time there. I will be writing a blog about my experience there soon (actually it's already written but I haven't transfered and formatted).

It is time. Illusion plays tonight in the Ro32 WCS NA Premier division. It's not going to be easy, but Illusion has a good chance to be the first North American player to advance to the Ro16! Hopefully he makes it, and be sure to tune in and support!
Thanks for cheering for me, I was 100% capable of advancing out of the group but little flaws in my play couldn't let me claw out.
Game 3 vs Alicia: probes surrounded my marines, I didn't leave two scvs behind for extra minerals (bunker), so I couldn't bunker his gateway.
Second set vs moonglade.
Game 1 vs moonglade: I clicked combat shield instead of stim, effectively delaying my push by a minute and letting him get another wave of units out as well as messing up the timings on my upgrades(im supposed to have barely above 100 gas when combat shield finishes, just enough for stim), 4/5 rax timings were off as well as my armory, 2 ebays and 2/3 gasses.
Game 2 vs moonglade. He scouted my blue flame opening, which was designed for whirlwind but I accidentally veto'd it. I didn't feel too behind after as long as I got my macro going. Everything was going well, some bad and some good fights and eventually it came down to me tunnelvisioning on the attack path and not scouting his 6 o clock base. If I wasn't tunnelvisioned(I'm going to get out of premier league if I lose this), I would've scouted or sent a drop along that side of the map. Eventually I ran out of money and he denied me from taking my 6th base with many ling runbys and I wasn't willing to lose my fortified position, although in the end it really didn't matter because there was only a few minerals.
That's my run down of the bad games (for me) in this league. I feel I am still in the best shape of my career and once again, only little things held me down and I am confident I can keep improving and not make those mistakes repeatedly. Thanks for cheering and I promise this is just a little setback, I am far from done.
Chris I'm so happy to see you play like you did today. Almost taking out Alica as well. You are gonna tear through the Challenger League and when Shoutcraft happens again, you will be one to qualify and take it!
Can't wait to see you stream. Are there any plans for coaching anytime soon?
Oh man, those were some amazing games. Sad you didn't take it but you easily could have, your control was better than I've seen any foreign terran recently. Can't wait to see you in Shoutcraft/Challenger league, that was inspiring play there.

Chris, I have always been a huge fan of your play, and most importantly your attitude. You are very young, yet so talented and I am 100% sure that you you will take these WCS games as a learning experience and show us more amazing games (and wins) in the future.
I remember seeing a thread (or maybe it was a blog) posted by LuckyFool about how you have developed as a player, and the amount of growth that has happened in your StarCraft 2 career. I will continue to support, watch, and cheer for you in any upcoming matches you have. Sometimes you can try so hard at something and sometimes you can be so prepared, but still fail. Every time you fail its obviously really painful, and it may cause sadness and disappointment, but always remember that your character is not judged after you celebrate a victory, but rather by what you do when your head is against the wall.
Just wondering: With your high skill, how are you not in the top 16 AM GM for the Shoutcraft America? I am pretty sure you are stronger than some of the players in there. Did you not play much ladder last season?
I did not ladder on NA on my own id, a shared barcode instead. There wasn't enough time to get an account into GM from the date of release of shoutcraft so I assumed I was allowed to use my barcode. Found out too late that it was not allowed, eagerly waiting for season 2 though

Illusion goes up against Macsed today in the WCS America Challenger Division! Thankfully, the loser of this match doesn't drop out, but loses the opportunity to advance directly to Premier for next season.
Game 1: Was Akilon wastes and from the games I studied, he seemed to like mech (mech is pretty good on akilon, safe 3 base and power into upgraded timing attack, or split map) so I wanted to end the game quick. I went for a 4 factory allin build I had prepared specifically for Akilon, it went well and I was happy.
Game 2: Was daybreak, I chose daybreak as map 2 indecisively, shouldve chosen bel shir so I could do a macro game on daybreak but either way, I was not prepared on this map and I did an old WOL all in build which he scouted with an scv as the attack came, if he did not scout it I feel that I would've won.
Game 3: I went for a 5rax 1 fact 1 starport 1ebay 2 base power build (old WOL build). I chose this build because I saw Bomber do this vs taeja in an old GSL match (April 30th 2013) map was on Akilon wastes but I was confident in being able to pull it off on bel shir so I went for it and everything was going my way until my final push. He scouted my 4/5th raxes with a medivac and 3 marines so he reacted and put down his own. He was ahead from that point after scouting my all-inish build and having 2 ebays behind it, letting him get the head start on 2-2. My doom drop was scouted unintentionally and his units were in position. If you look carefully, he was sending his units to his natural (from his main) as my doom drop came, meaning if I went in 5 seconds later, I could've secured the win. He had a marine at my natural which scouted 0 units present, which is why he prepared for a frontal attack and luckily scouted my doom drop as he was transfering units. From then on, he was ahead in every way, upgrades, CC (he even canceled my 3rd CC). His defense was too strong for me and I was too far behind after the cancel on my 3rd CC and I knew it was over.
A bit of a long run-on paragraph but to sum the whole series into as little words as possible, I made some poor decisions and got unlucky which costed me the series. It also didn't help that my stomach hurt today, out of all days for it to be hurting :/. I also always come so short, usually 1-2 series in anything that I perform in which kind of hits me mentally but it also makes me feel that once I can stop making the little mistakes and reading the game just a little bit better, I will be able to perform at the top AND win. GGs Taeja.
i feel like your analysis is pretty good, had really strong 3 builds on 3 diff. maps, the tiniest scouting/errors cost you the last 2 games. taeja is super good code S player, no doubt if you fix/tighten ur play u can compete.
Anyone know why Illusion hasn't participated in either of the first 2 WCS AM qualifiers this week? Am I missing him in the bracket or is he playing under a different name in the bracket maybe?
I'll be fine, I just need to get some other things in my life outta the way and get back on the grind and focus. Haven't been able to focus on the game like I used to ever since I got back from Korea and I think this split is going to help me get back to where I need to be. I feel kind of betrayed in this situation because I "supposedly" helped recruit the Moreno brothers and I was promised other things but of course like most things in esports, promises were not kept and words do not have any meaning. It's a shame contracts don't really mean anything and that a player's actions for the teams aren't remembered in the overall picture. Either way, nothing more needs to be said and as always, I will try to return back to my roots. Thanks for the support

Either way, nothing more needs to be said and as always, I will try to return back to my roots. Thanks for the support
Hey guys, sorry I've been inactive here but maybe some still read besides Bagration . There's a vote for MLG @ http://gameon.gg/vote where you can vote for your 4 favorite players to play in the tournament and I'd appreciate it if you voted for me. I was very quiet in 2013 but I'm trying to come back into 2014 with a good start and I think this tournament would be very good for me. I believe I am qualified in terms of skill (recently qualified for WCS, and had a really close run in IEM Cologne qualifiers where I beat violet and huk (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/IEM_Season_VIII_-_Cologne/American_Qualifier and I want to play in as many starcraft related events as possible. Thanks for the quiet cheers and of course Bagration for being my #1 fan <3.
Great to see you streaming again. You progress mechanically drastically every game you play, but you regress when I assume you practice less (b/c you aren't participating in very many qualifiers or anything). I hope you can find sometime to become a top level player once again. Love the layout and interaction on your stream. Good to see another gyopo dominating on ladder.
