On December 27 2010 11:29 Sentenal wrote: + Show Spoiler + Anyway, I'll comment on those shows that I do know of in that Mecha chart, since alot haven't heard of them. Bolded titles are ones I recommend: + Show Spoiler + Gundam Trilogy: Basically the original gundam show in 3 movies, supposed to be pretty good (I've never watched the trilogy). I still recommend it though. Gundam 0080: Gundam OVA, has alot about the civilian side of the One Year war, some very good animated battle scenes, I didn't like it because the main character is like a 10 year old kid who wants to play war (don't worry, he doesn't ever pilot). Gunbuster: GO WATCH NOW. Its the show that put Gainex on the map, sooo good. FMP!: I think most here have watched it. RahXephon: I've heard its similar to Evangelion, but have never watched it myself. Overman King Gainer: Was directed by Happy Tomino (the guy who directed Gundam). Very similar to Turn A Gundam in style, have never watched it personally. Gurren Lagann: most here have watched it, veri good show Gunbuster is better. Tekkaman Blade: There is alot of shouting in this show, and one of the VAs in this show (who is also the voice actor who plays Kyosuke in SRW) broke a microphone 3 times due to it. Haven't watched it. Ghost in the Shell: Cyber punk stuff, not very mecha IMO. Haven't seen alot of it. Giant Robo: This is a very good OVA. Its more of a Super Hero series than a Mecha show though. Very old school in style, very good animation. Recommended. Eva: I hate this show. Votoms: Very old show, late 70s early 80s? Probably the most "Real Robot" mecha show I have ever watched. I haven't finished it yet, but the second arc where they are in the Jungle is very good. Its like a mix between Rambo and 08th MS Team. Sorta. Recommended. Mazinkaiser: If you have never seen a Mazinger show before, Makinkaiser is a good place to start out. Its a pretty good Super Robot show, plus its an OVA so good animation. Recommended. Big O: Another good show that I have seen very little of. Apparently its like Batman+Mecha. Its supposed to be good, so maybe you guys can check it out. New Getter Robo: If you have never seen a Getter Robo show, WATCH THIS. This show is as awesome as Gurren Lagann, if Gurren Lagann was piloted by people who are both awesome and batshit insane at the same time (Getter Robo litterally runs on the Pilot's insanity in the manga, apparently). Recommended. G Gundam: Super Robot Gundam. Very fun show, recommended. Heroic Age: I dropped this show. Same character design as Gundam SEED, starts off slow. People have claimed its similar to Starcraft, but I failed to see the similarily beyond "3 different races". LoGH: GO WATCH NOW. Macross DYRL: Basically a movie version of the original series. Very good, recommended. Macross Plus: Macross+Top Gun. Recommended. Nadesico: Its not as good as FMP!, but its the same type of "light hearted Real Robot" show that FMP can be. It has a loli in it that people love. Decent 90s anime, recommended. Ideon: All I know about this one is Ideon is supposed to be the "GM God" or something, IDK. As in, a Godly version of the GMs from Gundam. Haven't actually watched it. Dunbine: This show is like mecha and fairys I think. Never watched it, supposed to be decent though? Eureka 7: I didn't like this show, but it is fairly popular, and I should probably give it another shot. Escaflowne: Mecha+Medieval Fantasy stuff. Very unique, one of my favorite animes. Recommended. GunxSword: My friend has called it the Cowboy Bebop of Mecha, but I haven't watched it. Gravion: Super Robot show, lots of fanservice. The show seemed to be lacking something which all good Super Robot shows had, and thus wasn't really awesome. I never really could put my finger on it. It went through the motions, but didn't have the soul. I dropped it. Godannar: I loved this show. Super Robot stuff, fan service, alot of ridiculous action and mecha design. Its one of my favorites. Recommended. Dancouga Nova: Kinda short, but decent. The main character is a hot chick. Recommended, but not as much as some other stuff. Zeta Gundam: Considered to be one of THE best Gundam shows ever made. And it is very good. Highly Recommended. Note that it is a direct sequel to the original Gundam, so at least watch the Gundam Trilogy from earlier before this one. Gundam X: Sort of the dark horse in the Gundam fandom. I think its really good, but lack of ratings got it canceled early, resulting in a rushed ending. Its like a Gundam show, after the world gets owned by many colony drops, so its set in a post-apocalyptic setting. Garrod, the main character, is THE most likable Gundam main character ever. Recommended. Gundam 00: Its fairly recent, so most people should know about it, so won't comment much. First season good, second season was lol. Turn A Gundam: A very unique Gundam show. How should I describe it... Okay, basically, eventually in Gundam shows, Gundams got so powerful, that when 2 Mobile Suits fought, they ended the world. And then they ended the world. A few thousand years later, when the Earth had recovered up to rough WWI tech (rifles, horse drawn artillary, biplanes), people from the Moon invade with Robots and stuff. Then the Earth side accidentally digs up the Turn A Gundam, and eventually other ancient weapons. But the story is more of an adventure story, and light-hearted in nature for the most part. It is not a Tomino-kill-em-all like Zeta or Victory Gundam. Highly Recommend. Code Geass: People love this show. Season 1 was good, but I thought Season 2 was a travesty. /m/ tends to agree, /a/ tends to disagree lol GaoGaiGar: I recommend this to ONLY people who like Super Robot shows. GaoGaiGar Final is great and awesome, and what the second half of Gurren Lagann should have been. However, in the series, you have to get through like 40 episodes of Monster of the Week type stuff to get to the really good stuff. Recommended to some. Shows that aren't on the chart, but should be, are Gundam SEED, Shin Mazinger, Getter Robo Armageddon, Gundam 08th MS Team, Gundam Unicorn, and Macross Frontier. Possibly others that are slipping my mind. That was exactly the sort of post I was hoping for. Thank you! I'll go through the list and check them. :D

Its a darker mecha show, and sort of like a TvZ in SC.

episodes. I think I need to switch genres. Watched too much comedy. For lack of a better word, I'm trying to find good 'serious' animes; perhaps mystery or thriller is better, like Ghost in the Shell series. Started Ergo Proxy. Since everyone seems to talk about LoGH I want to watch it too but what if I watch and can't watch any other 'awesome' series because it overshadows it?

Kaiba? What's so mystery about GitS? I always appreciated GitS as food for thought (the first season and the movie).

Leads like Touma, personally, ruin just about any series they are thrown into because of their hard-headed stupidity. I can't help but root for the antagonists when faced with rooting for an idiot like Touma. On December 27 2010 14:21 unoriginalname wrote: I meant from the picture in my post, but ah well. I've seen/tried all of those already. I fail at reading; I read your post for series OUTSIDE of the given list. My list still remains small however: G.A. (4-koma series, so it's a hit or miss) Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu (random series) Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (and A's if you liked the first season) Nagasarete Airantou (harem series with a somewhat funny premise; give it a shot I suppose and drop it if it doesn't sit well early on) Rosario + Vampire (friends say it's ok, I don't really have an opinion on it) Uchuu no Stellvia (somewhat) On December 27 2010 14:24 Ferrose wrote: What are your guys' feelings on Seitokai no Ichizon? Somewhat of a hidden gem. It won't sit well with a large number of people since its premise isn't unique, but if one doesn't mind watching such a type of show, then Seitokai no Ichizon is arguably one of the better slice-of-life romcoms out there. It also isn't a typical harem series in comparison to the majority of the series that fall under the same genre; Seitokai no Ichizon somewhat follows its own formula to represent the harem genre. All of the characters are rather interesting and somewhat unique as well; particularly, Sugisaki is a surprisingly tolerable male lead considering that he isn't a complete idiot for the majority of the series.
