There were plenty of different types of maids... since the old master had "varied" tastes or however they put it.

Man, we watched Silver Spoon since it was on Netflix and we were bored, but that show was awesome! I really enjoyed it.
Also finally got around to watching the first Kenshin Live Action, which was also great! Made me super nostalgic for the manga.

Actually yes, I dislike it when that happens in movies. Not to the point where I dislike the whole movie of course (I don't dislike Gate solely because this happened, either). But I always think it's pretty stupid for men to give secret information to a woman or let a woman into an area he had orders to let nobody in just because he develops sexual desires for a woman he doesn't know and that within seconds. This isn't fixed on genders for me but it's woman seducing men in 99,9 % of the cases.
As for the thing in Gate: How would they now he likes this whole maid/master thing at all. Or whether he likes animal girls? I think the chances are a lot higher that a person is turned of by agressively turning on certain fetishes than by sending him a person who is just friendly and treats them well.

Must all characters be 100% rational smart genius at all times in order for you to not complain about it?

Well yes, maybe I self-insert too much. I generally think it's good for characters to do stupid mistakes, even though I might feel angry at the time depending on how stupid the mistake was. But in after-thought I can relate to most stupid mistakes and are mostly of the opinion that is was the right decision to write it that way. The exception here though is overused tropes. And women seducing men to gain what they want, no matter what that might be, is used way too often. It makes men generally look like sex-obsessed idiots that instantly turn of their brain when in touch with a woman.
And what I meant with "makes sense" was the fact that they wanted to make up for their mistake and comfort the MC. It doesn't make sense to me to send maids and animal girls.

So they base their coice of how to comfort an unknown person upon the fetishes of a previous count. Still doesn't make sense. The writer just looked for an excuse to implement some otaku fanservice. He could have still done that after the characters realised what kind of type the MC is.
Anyways, this actually was my smallest point for complain, compared to the other ones, and also was originally more based on my general dislike for the whole maid/master and animal girl service culture and it's use as fanservice. In my initial post I wasn't arguing whether it made sense or not and I never intended to until toad brought it up.

yeah I brought the "wether or not it makes sense" up because in my experience that's usually the point people don't like about those scenes. It's just randomly tossed in there without any reason for it. So I assumed that's what got you worked up about and explained why this scene in particular actually was perfectly fine (imo).
If it actually makes sense in that situation I wouldn't call it using a trope even if that's a thing. They didn't just give him lewd maids, they did everything they possibly could to make sure he doesn't get angry at them, including maids.
Princess went out of her way to apologize to his officials. She yelled at her own knight in front oh him. They asked him if he wants to join them for breakfast and yes they also send in maids to pamper him. They even said they'd help him destroy the city if he so desires as long as they leave the little girl, whatever her name was, alone.
I'm aware that that was just a minor point for you, but I just didn't think that one in particular should be an issue.
