I don't get why you guys are arguing over this. Details change, but most Shounen are the same thing with different settings. Main character, likeable sidekicks, a cool rival, and then a purely evil for the sake of being evil bad guy. Then a long quest filled with power ups and training to go defeat them/get some sacred relic/find a missing person. Shounen are fun because they take 2 minutes to knock out a chapter (if that) and have cool fights and action.
Yes, there can be some very good character development + Show Spoiler +Bleach was actually really good early on, but tapered off and I'm not supposed to be talking about it on here oh God , but if you're looking for deep stories and philosophical themes, that's not what they're made for.
And yes, you get the occasional exception to this rule. FMA is technically shounen and was more story and ideals, Bakuman (and Death Note as it's "predecessor") is less action and all story, but there's usually only one or maybe two of them running at any given time. A small part of the demographic does not dictate the rule.

Nevertheless, every character's story is amazing in their own way, One Piece is the only anime I started to watch when I was 12 and still watch now that I'm 23 .... because I feel like everything about it grew up with me ... I would recommend it if you wanna get into something BIG, not just a cool story with a quick ending, because this is what One Piece is all about. People use the word "epic" for pretty much everything nowadays even though it doesn't actually fits.
One Piece IS a truly EPIC adventure if you give it the time it deserves.
Im all caught up on Fairy Tail (anime). I dont want to start up on Naruto again.
Im saving FMA: Brotherhood for later.
I wanna pick up on One Piece, since nearly all my friends watch it and talk about it enthusiastically. But 500 eps, holy dear god. I dont think any anime is worth 500 eps of your time. So what would a good episode, to start on, be?

I've watched 6 seasons only and there were a bunch of episodes that could be skipped but overall it felt that until they get onto the Grand Line you probs shouldn't try to ignore the start. The manga is better until they get there too, imo. But that's cos the studio thought it'd be fun to cut out a few things I liked.

I have exactly this, I'd like to watch one piece and from all the comments on my previous post it seems like something worth my time. But still 500 episodes is just.. dear god...

Instead of watching 500 episodes just go read the manga. Then you can start watching it from the latest episodes .

you really should just watch it from the start. I mean if you end up liking it anyways, you will end up watching the episode you skip anyways. Just be smart about it and listen carefully so you will know when to skip filler episode. It pretty obvious when the episode are fillers or not...generally.

Should just read the manga for FMA imo. It's the same story (more or less) plus you save time if you can read fast.
I wonder how the actor would keep a straight face while saying: + Show Spoiler +It's not like I'd tell you KILL ALL THE JAPANESE PPL OMG

Shana 21 + Show Spoiler +YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Do you think she's dead? DO YOU THINK SHE'S DEAD?
I certainly hope so. Also, if Khamsin died as well, that's finally a real blow to the Flame Hazes that is not a new character.
Damn my thirst for more Yuji was not satisfied this episode though. I really wish his plan would be successful.

Some anime struggle to have 13 good episodes. Some anime struggle to have 25 good episodes. Even fewer have 50 good episodes. You have have 300 or so bad episodes easily, just look at Naruto/Bleach. How many anime can say they have like 400-500 good episodes? That length combined with consistent quality is something really unique in anime. Anyway, I don't think you guys should fall for Uta's trolling. Its one of those "My opinion is different than popular opinion! That must mean the show is overrated" troll posts. One Piece isn't even about the action, its about the adventure lol.

Length has always been the problem with starting One Piece. It's always so hard for me to get people to start it, but I have yet to have someone say they regret it (except for the inevitable time sink because they can't stop watching). Although, I do recommend reading the manga because it'll save you a ton of time.
+ Show Spoiler [TWGOK 179] + omg Ayumi fan service so good! It's pretty awesome, planned or not, how Keima's first conquest was Ayumi and now he's come full circle. Makes his line "I've had my eyes on you from the beginning" so much better. but once again, nothing actually happens this chapter -_-

Thus, One Piece and LoGH are anime that only Men can watch.

I demand you immediately watch FMA: Brotherhood for the sake not of the Elrics, but for Mustang and his babe Hawkeye. They literally are the show, and without their badassery I would not be this into anime as I am today.

Just about done inuyasha:the final act, so lets try this for fun. What to start next, to go with the ongoing stuff, gundam stuff, and the few things purposely going through slowly.

Just watch as many episodes of one piece as you enjoy. I just remembered this one piece anime, watched first few and wowed at that 490~ it was at that time I think. If it entertains you it's pretty easy and even easier if you are able to watch 6hrs a day for a week, almost like I did (lol). Don't even force yourself to watch that many episodes of something you dislike for sake of talk with people. =D I'm atm still at around 520-530 now [alrdy ragequitted once at 333 and 334], I really dislike how everything has gone (and every action scene) and it feels extremely different compared to earlier. (Maybe it's because I watched those eps in such short time)
Regarding what you would miss, you aint gonna miss almost anything I think.. TwT Except maybe few references there and here.

Furthermore, it's a very easy watch. I thought FMA was paced so well because it was not a drag watching 20 or so eps a day. They just flew by. It was definitely refreshing.

After fishman island it gets pretty great. I mean I enjoyed fishman island, but there wasn't the sense of adventure or mystery like there is now.
Also 333 and 334 were both fillers, so they don't count.

Depends on what you want to watch. I'd pick Berserk out of those 3. I guess if you want romance/drama then Amagami. Genesis of Aquarion was ok and I enjoyed it, but its nothing amazing or great. Berserk is better.
