They were all "normal" humans, comparable to actual humans, since they didn't live in the Grand Line. This is my interpretation but honestly that's how it seems to work. Even Zoro when he first appeared almost died by being shot by Marines. Headshot The anime makes things alot less harsh in almost all cases. Whitebeard had half of his face taken off in the manga, in the anime he got punched and thats about it. That being said its not horrible, some manga to anime moves censor alot more. Oh, my bad. I should reread the entire manga instead of rewatching the anime. I think Whitebeard having a lot of swords being stuck in him also got censored. Point about normal humans outside of the grand line still stands though. Also Zoro is not slow what on earth are you people smoking. Edit: To be fair though the anime did an amazing job making the whole walk to Arlong park amazing. Like, that entire scene, from Nami failing to discourage the village from attacking Arlong, to Nami stabbing her shoulder, to Luffy, to Luffy and the crew walking to Arlong Park... well all that shit was packed with emotion. Nami's voice actor was absolutely stellar. The background music really improved that scene, too. I agree. Also the lack of any background music whatsoever during some scenes really helps ramp up the seriousness of something. Oda is a master but whoever is running the anime is also doing a great job. That march to Arlong Park is by far one of my favorite anime scenes. That and the climax vs Rob Lucci were the two best moments in the anime, imo.

O.o
The best scene in anime is definitely in episode 39 of The Twelve Kingdoms. Arlong march is the best scene in OP, though.

So I just finished watching the Thriller Bark Arc and as they depart for Thriller Park the narrator mentions some giant shadowed beings that appear in the background. Anyone remember that? I wonder if those things will ever be relevant to the plot..

Anyone remember that? I wonder if those things will ever be relevant to the plot.. I wouldn't doubt it. Oda probably has a reason for introducing them. As to what they are, they're most likely humanoid sea giants, or Umibozu. From wikipedia: Umibōzu (海坊主?, "sea bonze") is a spirit in Japanese folklore. The Umibōzu is said to live in the ocean and capsize the ship of anyone who dares speak to it. And also: According to one story, if angered, they ask that the crews provide a barrel that it proceeds to fill with sea water to drown them. To avoid this disastrous fate, it is necessary to give him a bottomless barrel. And the straw hats found a mysterious barrel when they entered the Florian triangle. Coincidence? Maybe!

Oh yeah with that kind of lore there's little doubt that those may as well be Sea Bonze. We've already met one, too

quoting a good theory/guess: http://www.mangareader.net/103-2341-12/one-piece/chapter-234.html
"Left medicine. Doflamingo logo but it looks more like Laws. I think that Kora had Hearth position. She was doctor in DD crew. Later she started to be popular doctor in New World. Mingo did big buisnes with her medicine. On Whitebeard medicine we see DD logo but it looks little else. Korra was one of DD. She was good person. Law was in love with her. I think that this chapter will be about Law flashback.
the details O.o

Sounds plausible, I guess the question is what did she do to upset DD and what did DD to her to upset Law.

I think it might have been missing before. For example, they still don't have chapter 265 for some reason, so they might also have been missing 309.
