edit: I'm using this string in my config file if you're unsure how to check dota_range_display 1200 Wait you have circle of range around your hero? Such as the castrange display when you have your mouse over the spell icons? Is this allowed if you play competitive games? Yeah you can add a circle around your hero. If it helps you, you would have to reset it every time since they have different ranges for their spells. I imagine it's allowed, it's a simple console command available to all. I don't use it for spell ranges, I use 1200 simply because it's a good catch-all for: -xp range (exact, and the primary use for me) -blink dagger range (exact at 1200) -smoke range (a tad smaller at 1050) among other misc things like hook range, antimage blink range etc Couldn't someone create a sort of a macro for this though? Like, after you press the key for Blink on QoP for example, it displays the blink range, and when you click the shadow strike key, it displays the range of that, and when you press the blink dagger key, it displays that range...
I'm not sure about the specifics but a macro like that doesn't seem too difficult and it might be pretty strong
v I don't mean for myself, I mean others could use it which would be a bad thing

If you are infight how are you going to switch around with the ranges? After playing long enough you will know the distances by heart anyway.

It's actually quite an interesting topic atm, along with Invoker macros. Technically, you can program it all via the console and never have to touch an out-of-game application which would be against the TOS. This is all very different from Dota 1.
There is a rather large threadnaught on it all on the Dota 2 dev forums with many people discussing it, but Valve have notably stayed silent on the entire issue.

Aren't spellranges built-in anyway? There's an option somewhere I recall.. not sure how it works exactly. Either way, I can't see these being used for spells. Hell, the 1200 range thing by itself fucks up my shadowfiend razes a lot.. I used to have no problems with them, but this circle confuses me every time, so I disable it when playing SF.
Either way, feel free to try it

so I've been pretty successful in matchmaking recently with this new build I've discovered. I thought long and hard about ursa's skills and found out that the recommended build is inefficient. I am an economics major so I am all about optimizing my resources. The dota2 recommended build tells you to rush vladimir's offering on ursa. now 2000+ gold seems like a hefty price to pay for some lifesteal so I decided to go straight heart. If you skip vlads you can just farm 3000 more gold to get a heart. Heart is the perfect item for ursa. The hp it gives helps you do more damage with your ult, and the hp regen ensures that you're always at full health. Heart does not give attack speed but you don't need attack speed anyways with your overpower skill. So heart increases your damage output and your survivability by a lot. Am I the only one that thinks heart is the most important item to rush on ursa?

How do people feel about using "range displays" for blink dagger?
If you didnt know there is a 20% penalty on blink dagger's range if you use it past its range. But with the console command you could just see the display and click right on the dot and you wont have to worry about any penalty at all.
Seems like a jip to the guys who dont like to use range displays. I personally feel like assist tools take away a certain something from a game like dota.
-Trying to blink outside of the maximum range will cause it to blink 4/5 of the max distance. http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Blink_Dagger

At least that used to be the case for AM's blink, they might have changed it again, though.

Heart is indeed one of Ursa's big hitter items, but not "core".
Vlads is core - let me explain why. You need some mana regeneration to spam your W, and the main reason to get Vlads is to Roshan at 9-10th minute mark.
Items after Vlads? Finished boots (Phase --> Pure damage and chasing capability. You have no use for atk speed) BKB / Blink or Shadowblade is the basis of most builds. Damage output and survivability are not the weaknesses of Ursa, he excels quite well in both with Vlads life leech. He needs to close the GAP between him and his victims, as well as positioning. Finally BKB to ensure he can't get stunned and demolish. (Also little survivability)
Only after all that, would you put the icing on the cake and buy Heart.

One thing I've yet to test, if you double click the blink dagger it automatically blinks you towards your fountain. In that scenario do you go the full distance or only 4/5?

You go full distance. Ive made it a habit to double-tap my blink whenever I run back to fountain or trying to make a quick escape.

It doesn't feel like 20% is that much tbh. 1200 range circle, the right chest is where you could blink. The left chest is where you end up blinking if you overshoot. Pretty negligible imo. It's like.. the width of a hero worth of difference.

e: that said, it's an advantage nonetheless

Practical application: the ring is only useful when you're trying to initiate at max range or maybe in conjunction with smoke to blink at the perfect moment. Not sure how people play with a circle all the time though. That would drive me insane.

Probably also matters for ursa.
