All the major networks have called Ohio for Clinton though, and the margin is big. EDIT: Oh hey McCain clinched the nomination today as well. That means weeks or possibly months to catch up in fundraising while the Democrats fight it out.

Last I saw the margin was only 10K votes out of 1.5 million and the major urban areas that have the most votes are favoring Obama greatly and have few returns. Also because of the dual primary/caucus system in Texas Clinton may win the popular vote by a similarly narrow margin but still get less delegates than Obama. is this replying to me? i meant my post as an opinion, haha. but yeah as i said, imo she will win the texas primary. no idea what will happen at the caucus yet. if she does win the texas primary, i think it goes to the convention. and i don't think HRC minds a damn bit if it goes to convention, seeing as her and mccain are best buds anyways.

Ohio's going to hurt, though. Hopefully he can keep it to a 10 point gap. If he ekes out a narrow win in Texas, it won't be too bad. The big problem for him now is... how does he fight the negative attacks? I just found out why he hasn't kicked Clinton when she was down - he promised not to go negative at the beginning of the primaries. But damnit, he should have! I think he should hold a press conference to counter all her attacks and then go on the offensive. I'm sure he's smart enough to attack her without seeming negative.

I just heard Obama's speech. Oh, very clever... he just implied that Hillary was dragging America's name through the mud with her negative attacks.

unlike the Presidency, where you can win by the slightest of margins and be the ultimate victor (or even pull a 2000 Bush and lose popular vote but just win electoral vote), the conventions don't really work out that way. Sure, one or the other will end up with more delegates, but unless you have a mandate - a significant lead over your opponent - your position will be weak. The situation is just bad for the Democrats if Hillary keeps going. Good for my man, though.

Face it you guys, enjoy your fail and enjoy your brokered convention. I'm going to be at home, kicking back with some popcorn and soda, enjoying the show on TV this coming summer for the brawl at the Democratic convention.

Clinton is kicking Obama's ass in Ohio right now. He is leading in RI, even though less that 1% is in, and only 2% of Texas is in, having him leading. If less than 2% of Texas is in they have 50 million democratic voters. I wouldn't expect them to have more than 5 million, so I think 20% is in. Actually, the 2% refers to the number of precincts reporting in. The reason there's so many votes already counted is that they already counted all the early votes (absentee). Those aren't assigned to any precinct; I assume they are counted beforehand and the tally released as soon as the polls close.

I agree about the slimy tactics. Her campaign has made it quite hard to give them the benefit of the doubt over the past month or so. But I do think prior to that she's definitely gotten crapped on more than the average "well-connected" national politician. In fact, there's no one else even close in terms of the amount of press criticism except George W. And I can't begin to fathom comparing the difference in sheer magnitudes of the damage their respective faults have caused. Also, imho anyone who thinks there was really any serious wrongdoing on the Clintons' part during Whitewater is really fooling themselves. That was really what started my hunch that there are a whole lot of people out to get them. Edit: Though I have no time to respond properly now, I'm glad for fusionsdf's posts. Some of the stuff there I hadn't seen. It's not enough to make me think she's the anti-Christ like a lot of other people do, but it is good to know.

It's not damage control, the fact is that while Ohio is indeed a huge win for Hillary from a publicity standpoint, the fact is that neither side has got enough to knock the other out. We're just stating facts - she's slowed him down and damaged him some but he's still standing. And you could say the same for both sides. The real problem for Obama is, going forward, how will he deal with the negative attacks? If he finds a way to deal with them, attack Hillary and still look like Mr. Nice Guy, then he should be able to finish the season strong. But it's not easy to do that. At most I think he'll maintain his lead but still not be able to humiliate her enough to force her to drop out. That's why I think it really is going to end with a brokered convention where both sides try to cut a deal with the superdelegates.

Plus, Obama has been spinning it for himself anyway - basically, he's been saying 'anything less than a dominating Clinton victory is a W for me'

That it's a close race, Obama and Clinton are still standing and it's going to go to a brokered convention? On second thoughts, don't bother. There's no point arguing with a... um... dickhead.

I wonder though, in a brokered convention, would there be pressure for hillary to be the presidential nominee, just because shes 50+ and this will be her last shot? And pressure on Obama to just be VP, wait it out, and run later?
