How to Master Starcraft: Brood War

StarCraft: Brood War Techniques:


Ability: Mouse + Keyboard Control:
there is not much I can say about this, It's just practice: the faster and more accurate you are, the better.

These are all the techniques;

Army
Power Up
Scouting
Fortessing
Support
Poking
Rendezvous
Drops


Army: Use front units backed up with ranged units.

Terran: Firbats + Marines, among unlocking ghosts, ghost replace Marines
Zergs: Zerglings + Hydralisks, among unlocking Ultralisks, Ultralisks replace Zerglings
Protos: Zealots + Dragoons, among unlocking Archons, Archons replace Zealots

Power Up: Upgrade Army Stats
Terran: 2 Engineering Bay, Upgrade Infantry Weapons + Infantry Armor. then upgrade Infantry Weapons + Infantry Armor level 2 & 3 as soon as Science Facility is built.

Zergs: 2 Evolution Chamber, upgrade Zerg Missile Attacks + carapace + melee attack. Then build another evolution chamber as Hive is upgrading, then upgrade Zerg Missile Attacks + carapace + melee attack twice

Protos: 2 Forges, Upgrade Ground Weapons + Ground Armor + Plasma Shields. Then build another Forge as Cybernetics core is building, then upgrade Upgrade Ground Weapons + Ground Armor + Plasma Shields twice.

I would advise that you tech up to complete power up as soon as possible for the most power

Scouting: Looking for expansions being built using fast units to then destroy expansions with other units.
Terran: Vulture
Zerg: Mutalisk
Protos: Scout

Fortressing: To either block or hide behind or creating map control, whos ever fortress units have more range has an advantage
Terran:* Seige Tanks + Goliafs
Zerg: Lurkers + Scourges
Protos: Reavers + Coursairs

Fortressing can defend Army

Support: Using support units to back up your army
Terran: Science Vessel, Using Iriadiate against Zergs Support units to counter them & Using EMP Shockwave to damage Protos Shields and Energy.

Zerg: Queens Ensnare to slow down enemy & Defilers Plague for damage over time

Protos: Arbiters Statis Field temporeraly decrease enemy units & High Templar to cast a powerful spell damaging all units.

Poking: Using fast air units to attack resources carriers to get away with
Terran: Wraiths
Zerg: Mutalisks
Protos: Scout

rendezvous
Simply retreating units to meet new units for more units

Drops: on mineral line
Terran: Firbats, these do good damage and can take out the entire mineral line
Zerg: Lurkers, these CRUNCH! the entire mineral line!
Protots: Dark Templar, these destory mineral line and if undetected, they are invincable

Attributes:
Knowing what units beats other units


Aditional: "Best Unit". I call this best unit because before brood wars; Battle cruisers, Guardians and Carriers beat all units. but when brood wars came out, they get beaten by; Valkaries, Devourers and coursairs, which is why I call it, Counter best unit.

someone has mentioned that "best unit" can beat valkyries and corsairs, your right that "best unit" has more power, but you forgot to consider how much they cost to make and how fast they can be made compared to "best unit".

if you spent; for example 2000 minerals/gas building "best unit" facing 2000 minerals/gas valkyries and corsairs, valkyries and corsairs would win.


"Best unit", infact, can take out fortressing

The non-army War Triangle:

"Best units" beats Fortressing
Fortessging beats counter best unit
counter best unit beats "best unit"

Mineral Line
Attacking, or even trading with opponents mineral line is probably the best thing you can do!

Even if your units die, you can still build units 2 rounds later, but your opponent cannot because you would have taken out their mineral line.

Among Mastering StarCraft: Brood Wars, you should be able to see that all the teams are mostly similar

In fact, "best unit"(Battlecruiser) beats Fortressing(Seigetanks & Goliafs)

I would take out the Goliath first, then Seigetanks are no match for battlecruisers.

If there is just Goliafs, then it is not a fortress.

I don't know how to break it to you, but if you're planning to beat a human opponent online with the guide, I'm not sure what deity you'd have to pray to. I'll tackle a few points as examples.

There's a lot to tackle here. Firstly, you mention how valkyries, devourers, and corsairs beat battlecruisers, guardians, and carriers. Aside from the guardian which is both fragile and unable to attack air, the valkyries and corsairs deal almost no damage to the 'best units' because they have high armour. A single corsair hit deals 5 damage, and a carrier has 4 armour- so you'd be dealing 1 damage with each hit. Devourers are really the only ones that could be considered good against capital ships, but even they're really just support units whose primary task is to degrade the armour.

Though you'd be correct in believing battlecruisers are the best units because their stats are great, you also need to recognize that they're exorbitantly costly, and have relatively bad effectiveness. With the cost to buy one battlecruiser you can get four goliaths (with 100 gas left), which is a bad trade. Same goes for ghosts; they require a lot of tech, cost gas, and can't stim. Are they really better than a cheap normal damage marine enough to replace them completely?

I'd also be remiss if I didn't point out that you don't talk about the economy at all. Starcraft is a game of economy, and being efficient with it. An offensive strategy beats a greedy strategy, a greedy strategy beats a defensive strategy, and a defensive strategy beats an offensive strategy. Somewhere you have to find the balance to maximize your advantage.

TL;DR
I appreciate your passion for the game, and I'm glad you posted here. If you want to refine your knowledge of Starcraft, you'd find no better place to do so. We have resources and loads of players who want to help you out. If you're interested, I'd recommend you check out some of the progamers' games and figure out how a standard match-up runs.

nice guide, but you forgot in this part:
Support: Using support units to back up your army

that science vessels also damage protoss energy.

And I'd argue, if you just run from a battlecruiser with a carrier, the carrier will never get hit once and therefore is invincible, should be listet as counter best unit.

Did you guys notice, that they changed, how units get placed in SCRM? I remember producing so many marines out of a barracks without waypoints, thats i eventually got an error, that there is no space to place the marine.
In SCRM, they just spawn in second line.

Oh, and this game isn't called Brood warS

This was posted 19 hours ago. I read it instantly and logged on to play ladder. Needless to say, I play protoss. I scouted with scouts and I poked with them, it was too ez to force ggs and gaim mmr points. Ez guide, ez wins, ez life. Thanks for the life-changing guide, op.
