As for the France and WW2 get real. France suffered over half a million deaths almost half of that were military deaths hardly a country that is said to just surrender.

I feel like Americans only get upset with the French when the French openly insult or attack the US. Any historically-rooted hatred doesn't really exist, and I don't see why an American would initiate an attack on the French without being provoked, just no point.

I think the majority of the Germans and French share many beliefs on how a country should be run and how the government should take care of it's people. I also admire them for fighting for their social rights. Many people make fun of the strikes, i think it's great and should be done in more countries. I like how things turned out after all the shit between our countries in the early in 20th century. On the other hand i can confirm that many french people behave like assholes when abroad. I worked in hospitality in GB for a year and they were some of the worst customers. But Germans and Americans were no better... France jokes are funny though and you shouldn't take em all so serious. (My Favorite "There's only one way to france! On tank chains.") You know how much shit you have to take as a German sometimes? As long as it's in good fun, it's fine. Three which I remembered when I read your joke(well since we started, why not keep going in international fraternity): + Show Spoiler + Why do the Frenchies celebrate the football victory in 1998 so excessively? Because it's the first time that they won anything without the USA. I called France last saturday... but it was occupied again How do you make a french tank drive forward in a battle? Attack it from behind!

Also the theory of most people on the first post that American's are "envious" of France is ridiculously dumb. American's can't even find France on a map, let alone know enough about them to envy them.

Then there is the belief that French people hate us so that certainly doesn't help. And I'm not saying I believe any of the above, those are just some of the things I think have led to the general attitude in America towards the French. Although I do have a problem with a country that tries to preserve its culture by drowning out everyone else's.

My school certianly didn't ignore genuine History. English history classes tend towards gruesome honesty. (The Brits aren't afraid to face our own monsters. Even the Irish trouble's are given a fair crack, with England taking a great deal of blame - the broken promises at the outbreak of WW2 for instance - and that shit was still relevant when I was young with IRA attacks, my uncle even served in Northern Ireland and got shot at by militia) My teachers were very open about how the interntaional politics of the time fueled the nazi's rise, and ineffectual western leadership allowed Hitler's advance through europe. Hell, one of my favourite topics to annoy my Yankee teacher was exploring the reasons America joined the war at all. We're a warts and all kinda nation at heart, we love hearing about our past glories and gore.

In our schools its implied that the French were cowards because they had the highest muntiny in WW1, for some reason canadians spend a great deal circle jerking themselves about how great they were in WW1, and the Australians. From what I understand the french soldiers were the worst supplied in WW1 which caused the high rates of mutiny? Honestly i wouldn't want to fight a war if i haven't been fed for a week. As for quebec french i have huge problems with them. There is a lot of goods in services that never make it to canada because EVERYTHING has to be translated into french and english. This is fucking stupid because in quebec half the shit isnt even in english, there is huge favouritism towards the quebecers in this sense. Also they constantly threaten "divorce" from canada, shows a huge lack of commitment to our country as a whole if you're waving it in our faces. Seriously GTFO so we can enjoy all the great stuff american companies have to offer. In all fairness to Quebec, Montreal is by far the coolest sounding city in Canada. They also gave us poutine which is fucking amazing. Personal experiences with France, went there, people were kinda rude. I also find the british very rude to but it's because of cultural differences. Here in canada we can't stfu about being sorry or saying thank you, we're overly polite that it gets a bit stupid. In Britian they're just not use to saying things like excuse me. ( i dont know how many times people nearly landed flat on their face trying to get around me in london) Also people saying Napoleon being the best general, bit ignorant of some asian generals like Sabotai general of Genghis khan, yeah that guy who control almost the entire euro-asian continent. The only thing that stopped Sabotai from taking the last half of europe was the death of Genghis khan himself. Also alot of Napoleon's greatest strategies were most likely influenced by Sun tzu, But let's not take that way from Napoleon being an amazing fucking general who I believe is the only western general to occupy Moscow.

BrodiaQ United States. January 22 2012 03:41. Posts 827 PM Profile Blog Quote # The feeling I get from the French jokes/hate is mostly to do with the people and the history with the two World Wars. There is, in my opinion, a general feeling throughout American Society that we had to enter WW1 and WW2 because France couldn't take care of itself and we had to save them. A lot of Americans characterize French people as ungrateful because it seems like the French haven't done anything to repay us for our intervention. Before saying something, you better check if it's right. the USA entered World War 1 only because its ships got sank by the german submarines and World War 2 because of Pearl Harbor.

I try to remain objective in most things, and both countries have pros and cons. I became friends with a Frenchman when I attended a rader engineering summer school and appreciated his perspective on issues. I think the French healthcare is better than the U.S. (that's not saying much though), and I believe France as a country offers a better quality of life for several reasons: one being the sense that most French people don't believe life is all about work and another being that France, from what I've heard, is a beautiful country.
