Calm < Rush Hour 3 > PianO Brilliant ZvT here. A very exciting set from beginning to end, from a stellar Zerg player and a rising Terran player. This is a MUST-WATCH game.
STX should have this, assuming the coaching statff isn't stupid and doesn't use their july/calm/by.hero combo to counter free, and that Kal/Hwasinare able to play Zero.
For God's sake GO WOONGJIN lets have a little bit of diversity in the playoffs by getting a team that hasn't done anything notable in the team leagues since '05 get in. SKT gets in the playoffs nearly every season - lets get someone else a chance.
Kal has a shot to all-kill but Free can probably take him out. July should solve the Free problem (if the STX coach remembered to take his meds today) so I predict a 4-1, maybe a 4-2 by fluke or poor lineup choice.

OGN: Let’s see who Bisu chooses… HWASIN! Bisu: Just in case I lose to NaDa, I chose Hwasin as insurance. *OHHHHHH* Hwasin: He thinks of me as insurance… but will I really be that? Or will I be poison to him… I think we’ll have to see. *OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH*
Hwasin has both the most profound and hilarious comebacks

Lol piano?....piano? thats priceless. He had a day that will not repeat itself...i think kal will go until he gets to free and beat him unless its his off day which is possible. if not zero as long as he doesnt play hwasin has a chance to clam victory for stars (really good zvz so july is out of the question) otherwise i think kal all kill

So they'll probably lose, right?
lol
It's true, every single match that STX plays is completely up in the air depending on if their players are actually playing good or not (this team is SO FUCKING INCONSISTENT OMG).

-_-
He's been picking up quite a few wins recently. Sure, they weren't allkills, but he's been showing great play, win or not.
stx doesn't have a shot, but t1 does if stars loses, which is why so many t1 fans are cheering on stx.
god i'm so nervous; even though stars have a respectable shot with decent players, i get the sense that when i wake up tomorrow, kal would have either all-killed or fucked woongjin up and had someone else clean up. ggplay needs to get his act together and score some necessary big wins here, or else the team that hasn't gone to a proleague playoff since 05 will stay that way. cmon stars!
p.s. if ktf were to lose as well, how would the final playoff spot be determined?

I'm still going to watch, because I'm overly excited for any Stars match.

Free imo has the best pvz of any toss atm, Free v July will be an epic match im truely looking foward to
Sunks + lings repulse Kal's attempted offensive, looks like spire going up for GGplay. Yeah, spire's finished and GGplay still with a bunch of lings. Keeping Kal from retaking his main.
GGplay sees 11 and shuts it down. Kal tries to get his zealots into GGplay's base, but loses them all doing no damage. Kal trying to retake his main, but awesome muta micro against the archon shuts that down too. Kal gg's.
On the one hand, I'm really glad to see GGplay win. On the other hand, I want to see Stars lose, and Kal not winning doesn't look promising for that outcome. Come on, STX!
Rofl, from the replay I see that Kal spotted the mine through about a half a second before the mins went down. I can only imagine his reaction. I'm pretty sure mine would have involved needing fresh underwear.
The exact same thing happened to my friend when he played on this map for the first time. He immediately pulled all his probes to his natural and went for a stargate. It worked out perfectly.

Muta battle in Calm's main. Many scourge, don't think any hit. Calm's reinforcements come in and calm comes out ahead, takes out all of GGplay's mutas. Moves in on GGplay's main and gg from GGplay.
Im not a zvz expert but wasnt ggplays attack a little unneeded? i mean they were quite even in muta/ling/drone count i dont see that attack doing too much.

Rush Hour next so theres a fair chance of the losing team sending out a terran.
Zero pulling drones to help defend the ramp, knowing he'll be ok if he doesn't lose them. Calm attacks the hatch and forces the drones + lings down, killing a good number. Zero finally cleans up the assault, though.
That's a lot of freaking red lings. They try to take down the hatch by splitting and buying time at the ramp, but are forced to retreat. Calm's lings get a drone at zero's nat.
Lings all in zero's main. Drones getting massacred. Spores are down, looks like zero has about 3 mutas and maybe one drone if it's hiding somewhere, but I'm pretty sure they're all dead.
12 pool expand sort of managed to put zero ahead and behind at the same time. He made a bit of a micro mistake with his first lings at his ramp, though, and that gave calm an advantage he never really let go of all game.
i think when zero's spire timing attack failed he was behind but not too behind. his stubbornness in trying to take down calm's nat expo cost him so many lings and cemented his loss.

Yeah, the game was still fairly close up to the point zero threw all those lings away, but I still think calm had a narrow lead even before then. Probably what prompted zero to be so flippant with his units. Regardless, it was a much more enjoyable ZvZ to watch that the first one.

well i asked some korean friends and they said it's not -that- common that all hot girls are the result of plastic ops but maybe like 20% ???
but then lots of western actors/actresses have been under the knife too so =D

Way exaggerated stereotype.
That's what I've been hearing from a great number of sources here. And the difference between the general cuteness level between high school girls and university students is striking.
Calm does some delaying with his mutas, but that's a large force sitting outside his sunks at 3, and calm is unable to stop the reinforcements from arriving, though he picks off several marines.
Piano loses several rines to a single lurker spike. Up to 4 sunks and 2 lurkers at 3 now, it should be safe for now. Piano moving out and around looks to be heading for the natural. Calm fends him off with lurker + muta + ling.
Also brings in a drop on the nat mins, picks off several drones there. He snipes the defiler mound in the main! Calm screwed six ways from sunday right now. Needs some serious comeback mojo.
Calm replacing his defiler mound at 3, but there's a huge army stationed outside his natural and it's complete with tanks and vessels. Raining down death on the natural, rines are moving in. Most of the drones have been killed or forced to retreat. Piano taking out calm's lurker force as well.
Man, Piano just did that fricken espionage style. I think I wanted to yell in Korean like the commentators when he dropped the infantry off just south of the nat. Very nicely done throughout.
On March 08 2009 19:28 pyrogenetix wrote: question to zerg players:
why did calm put his hive at his nat? isn't it more vulnerable? or is it to dodge scanner?
it is in a more vulnerable position but also has more HP, and on this map it's quite easy to snipe that hatchery at natural if a couple mnm gets in a good position.
On March 08 2009 19:28 pyrogenetix wrote: question to zerg players:

Well it was actually less vulnerable this game. If it was at main, it would have died during drop.
yes true but that was more of a chance thing. imo it's way more vulnerable to siege tank fire out in the main especially on a map like rush hour where the nat is wide open...
I like how we all used three different terms to describe that drop by piano heh. Regardless that just changed the game from looking pretty good for zerg to just being "haha this is sad rape" for the terran. Sick move. What makes it even worse is the mutas were right next door as this was happening.
On March 08 2009 19:28 amorpheus wrote: wtf calm why no swarm?
Piano killed the defiler mound before consume was finished upgrading
just after sniping the two vessels he was left with a defiler a few lings and 3-4 lurkers piano scanned and moved in and calm just watched w/o throwing out a swarm
What I've always heard is that zergs do that because the lair/hive has more hp and that position is vulnerable. I guess the thinking is that if you lose that hatch it doesn't matter whether it's your tech or not, you're probably going to lose.
Edit: That's in relation to this map alone, at least for the reasoning I mentioned.

That game gave me flashbacks to playing an old friend of mine, haha. He always tended to be a bit better at macro than me, but we tended to be well matched because I pulled shenanigans like that dropoff. Gotta love attacking the enemies vulnerabilities, right? Piano did great that match. His macro to keep troops coming after his frequent attacks had Calm on his heals the whole damn time.
On March 08 2009 19:28 pyrogenetix wrote: question to zerg players:

Well it was actually less vulnerable this game. If it was at main, it would have died during drop.
That doesn't really answer the question. Unless Zerg players expect the main to go down rather than the expansion, which I doubt.
So really, why do they do that?
I know exactly why that do that on RH3. There's a lot of early sunk busting/early mm aggression builds that can sometimes hit the nat and having the lair there gives you extra HP. Once you build your lair there obviously you make your hive there.
Piano moving out. July picks off a marine with his lings, still dancing them around to buy time for his sunkens. Picks off another marine. Piano setting up shop outside july's nat. CHARGES! Repelled by the 2 sunks and 2 morphing colonies + lings.
Lurker on the ramp owns several marines and keeps piano from getting into bottom right. Lurks moving out from july's nat. Mutas just running around in Piano's main, killing random stuff and looking invincible.
Massive offensive from july, looks like he has as many lurkers in this as piano has marines. Pushes piano all the way into his natural. Piano drops bottom right, but it's cleaned up. Piano pushes back out from his nat, but his army is small despite having vessel support now.
Piano with small force in place to stop july reinforcements. Traps two defilers, but somehow july manages to save them both thanks to timely lings + dark swarm.
Here comes another large attack from july, he pushes into the natural choke again, but stalls there. Vessels irradiate the defiler, but july gets a plague off on terran army. July scourges a vessel, piano has 2 left.
July forces piano to liftoff his nat cc, and pins in piano's army at 3. Piano dropping july's min only, but it's quickly taken care of. July clears out 3 and picks off another science vessel. Make that two.
July switched to hydra/lurker and is pushing right into Piano's nat again, this time Piano has his tanks on the low ground as well. Cows finally out. July's attack stalls again at the choke, but he takes out a large portion of piano's tank force.
Piano's dropship gets scourged on the way back to july min only. Cows finally arrive at t's natural, but do a whole hell of a lot of nothing thanks to no support. Gaggle of scourge on their way to own one vessel, though. July gets all of piano's army with 1 plague.
Tank splash ripped up more of piano's army than july's ultras did. July has broken the natural, but piano cleans up and tries to move out again. July taking top right natural. Piano trying to attack it.
July loses the drones at top right natural, but saves the base with ultra/ling. Attacks the front door while dropping on piano's min only. More units streaming in the front. GG from piano.
July seemed to be too much the whole match. He always seemed to be a step ahead, except for maybe really early on. Nice job by July. I was rooting for Piano, but he was just outclassed.
July basically showing why you don't bunker rush him unless you're lim yo hwan. It wasn't over from there, but the flow of the game was July's to dictate from there, and that's where he's the strongest. Pretty classic july T domination, but Piano made him work for it at points.
i'd say piano is much better than his elo indicates, actually. the fact that he managed to defeat calm and withstand july for 20 minutes (in addition to allkilling) seems to agree with this

imo there was no single thing that put piano behind but he was just outplayed.
the bunker rush bust
mutas delaying rines to bottom right so lurkers could finish
mutas taking out turrets, science facility, other buildings under construction
I don't know if July showed the cleanest ZvT win, but he's getting results. If only he gets his zvz back in form he will be at the top again. Any way July v Free should be awesome.

He just got a bit sloppy after it was clear he had 80% of the map under control. Or maybe he was hungry and wanted a break to eat some shortcakes. Or maybe both.

He was just going for sauron mode. He knew he had the game in the bag, might as well entertain the fans by rolling over his opponent with endless waves of units.
July takes out the warping cannons in free's main with his mutas, also picked off new templar. Now taking on the nat cannons. Free overruns july's nat, but mutas have free reign in free's base. Probes get absolutely owned.
JULY: CRUSHER OF PLAYOFF DREAMS. Also, DIE FREE (no offense but I dislike on a random basis your demeanor on camera and play).
Great series overall. Great kick off game by GGplay, some great zvz by Calm, a stellar tactic from piano, an epic zvt from July, and a stomping from July's famous zvp. G_Gz, sorry WJ. $TX4LYF3

No, even if KTF got AKed (0:4) tomorrow against CJ, KTF (35:32) would still one clear win ahead of Stars (35:33).
Sorry, Stars are out. The play-off teams are CJ, KTF, OZ and SKT1. Intense wars of most-win continue among Flash (36:10), Bisu (35: 9) and Jaedong (35:14).
