I didn't say all the maps were standard, I just said that it is the most standard map pool so far, Imo 
Hitchhiker is really not that hard to learn, too. Its kinda blue stormish (+destructible buildings), but better imo.

people don't like "new" or "oldie but goldie" maps because they're mostly lazy.
I understand the angle they're coming from, but I really dislike it too. One of the things that made BW so fun is that it had SO. MANY. MAPS. It Made for super interesting dynamic between the races (balance), playstyles, etc.
That's why STPL is the best league around! I'm getting the poor man's proleague vibes from it, and I think that was the overall idea in the first place :D

Well, I think that for completely new maps like Hitchhiker you need to play very differently and that leads to frustration sometimes so it's understandable that people don't like them. OTOH I rather have something like Hitchhiker than some weird island map that takes months to figure out. I'd also like to see more 3-player maps, those are interesting without being completely different.

It's not a completely new map though, it's over 10 years old.. it just was not used because we had many other new maps being made. Hitchhiker is seriously not that crazy.. I don't know why some people complain that it is a "shit" map . . . We had so many way worse ones in the map pool over the years.
and I agree that the more "nonstandard" maps can lead to frustration.. but BW is frustrating anyways, even when playing on FS/CB so it should not be a biggie :D
I think this is the best map pool yet, actually. Glad they didn't put Inner Coven or Tripod in..
And I agree about the 3 players maps. I wish Whiteout was used more.

I'm not sure what's not to like. 2 current tournament maps, La Mancha which is a great map, FS/CB which people like anyway and New Bloody Ridge which is a highly popular and very fun 2 player map.

I have to admit, Escalade is pretty cool. Easy to claim standard 4-p map vibes, however it's way more complex (what with the different levels and all and the very long rush distances.
ASL games so far seem to confirm this.
Might be the new Sylphid for this year.

It's something that happens in every game that uses ranked seasons.
Usually it's just a soft reset, though.
