Wasn't Luxury considered OGN's ace player when they reached the proleague finals?

Huh? ForGG was and is above average (he won a starleague....against the dong himself), luxury was the 2nd best zerg for a few months with unbeatable ZvP, and Kwanro is another above average player. If there guys are jokes then the only people that are "good" must be jaedong and flash now

Truth in that. Some games Lux looked completely dominant, but other games like his games vs Best just make me go, "What the hell are you doing?"

Well first off, if you can't beat Best at ZvP, then you clearly have some issues. Also, inconsistency doesn't make you S class overall. Every player can show flashes of brilliance. Like someone mentioned above, even Hyuk looked good against JD a couple of times.

Would you consider forGG or Calm to be S-class for winning a starleague? How about someone like Sea or Leta who consistently perform well in Proleague but had no success in individual leagues?

There are a lot of reasonable criteria we could come up with, like some recent success in individual leagues, good performance in the proleague, no really weak matchups, not in a horrible slump at the moment, etc. But if you try to apply all of these you're left with Flash, Jaedong and maybe Fantasy, Effort or Stork.

Isn't that what S class is all about? Being better than the rest? It only makes sense if you have only Flash/JD and maybe a couple more. Otherwise you get like a ton of S class players...

Flash was once from Wemade. Nada came from IS, then KTF, then Wemade. There are many good players that switched to another team, but they're not considered the #1 progamer in their prime (Midas, Gorush), or already know about/recent switches that everyone already knows about (lieak OMGZ Bisu switch to T111!! He'd been fine on MBC regardless. Just did it for the money cuz T1 is just like that.).

Luxury was essentially what Effort is now: the second best zerg player for a while.

He, Jangbi, and maybe Best and Leta all fall into the same category to me. They had their periods of S-class, but they couldn't sustain it for long enough.

And since when was Puma good?

edit: yay new icons for translators!

One starleague win over a guy who can't PvZ to save his life isn't even close to being S class. Lux couldn't take a game off Bisu, Flash, or JD at the time (Except for when he 5 pools Bisu on Troy). You can't consider that S class at all. Hell, even Calm won a Starleague. Was he even close to S class at the time? No, not at all.

You can't be S class if you can't take a game off the real S class.

does that mean that hyuk is S class cause he took 2 games off jaedong?

It's jaedong that became S class from having the honor of losing to hyuk!

While July's the most decorated (Bisu has 3 MSLs too but ehh), when he was traded, his ZvT and ZvZ were already outmatched by most great players. His third OSL run was probably one of the easiest, thanks to him meeting up with Backho and Best (PvZ duncebuckets).

HOLD IT

Didn't he play ROCK and Backho? How on earth can you say that they are both PvZ duncebuckets? BOTH OF THEM HAVE WINNING RECORDS AGAINST JAEDONG ON TELEVISED MATCHES. I'll say it again. BOTH OF THEM HAVE WINNING RECORDS AGAINST JAEDONG ON TELEVISED MATCHES.

July lost only ONE game in that OSL that meant anything (A group round loss after he qualified doesn't count). And that was to Backho. Heck, he even beat Best after a failed 4 (5?) pool! Following that OSL, he was one of the only zergs still kicking in the scene, in addition to Jaedong and Luxury. None of the zergs were having any luck with ZvT. Don't believe me? Check old power ranks. If that isn't S-Class, I don't know what is. All revitalized shortly after his SKT -> STX trade.

Yup but July still wouldn´t be S-class, more like L or XL IMO

What? Julys OSL-run was probably the easiest in the history of SC. Meeting three absolutely horrible PvZ players, two being relative newcomers to the scene, in the only matchup he was good in at the time was probably the biggest stroke of luck ever. Afterwards he didn't really do anything either - I'd say he ranked below JD, lux, yarnc and even kwanro back then.
1000 at least.

Were the GO->x transfers really sales? I don't think the situation was exactly the same.

But yeah, those team changes are at the very least comparable to Bisu's transfer...not that many people seem to remember.

I was about to come up with this. Transfering your best players would happen a lot more often at the time as GO didn't have money while KTF or Toona were rich. Nowadays,
You could add Goodfriend from Pantech to KTF, even though someone already mentionned it, GF was suppposed to be Nada's heir when this happened.

And this argument about "what's an S class" is pretty stupid. I think it's pretty easy to say that Luxury going to KTF was a pretty big deal. Everyone hyped the twins at that time and, even if it was against Jangbi, Luxury managed to honor the hopes that were put in him. He was a very good player.

I thought the Luxury move was a sorta-big deal because he was pretty much the ace for Sparkyz at the time, no? He was a total fail right after, but he was OGN's go-to guy at the time they moved him.

But yeah, the rest were lolz when they moved.

Bisu to SKT, July to SKT (and sort of to STX).

Savior been sold to the devils.
is that S-class enough?

the mentionable trades were Luxury and Bisu, they were their previous ace. OGN and MBC had to work to get a new ace.

In Gorush and Nal_ra cases, they were simply allowed to go to richer teams since Cho couldn't afford to feed them.

I dunno what the heck was involved in Kwanro's transfer to Stars. The rumors indicate that he was sold for a bag of rice.

Luxury and ForGG were big deals though. Wasn't ForGG even considered as the best Terran by some around his Arena conquest?
