Im new to this, and i have a question.
It seems in OSL each group in the Ro16 all play eachother, sometimes resulting in equal scores like 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 0-3 or 2-1, 2-1, 1-2, 1-2.

1) How many people get eliminated from the 16?
2) How do you decide who gets eliminated from the scores?
3) And are there any other benefits/perqs in the process like getting seeds?

Can someone make a visual chart showing how OSL proceeds from the original 16 qualifyers?
The Offline Preiminaries/OSC/ODT/OSL chart in the articles section is great, and helped a lot, but im pretty lost about how the OSL itself plays out. Thanks to anyone who replies =)

Round of 16 is group stages. 16 players divided into 4 groups with 4 players per group. Each player plays everyone from there group, making it a total of 3 games per player. 2 players from each group advance to the next round, so they will either have a 3-0, 2-1, 1-2 or 0-3.

A 3-0 is automatic advance, since no other player can get a 3-0 from your group. Likewise 0-3 is also an auto-disqualification, since no one else can do the same or worst than 0-3. 2-1 and 1-2 stats depends on the situation.

A 2-1 means you have a very high chance of advancing. Chances are you can advance, but if someone from your group gets a 0-3, then the other 3 may end up with a 2-1, just like you, which means those 3 have to play a re-match to determine who gets the 2 spots to advance. Rematches will be played infinitly until 1 player loses twice.

A 1-2 means you can't get an auto-advance. Your chances are low to advance, but it's not impossible. For you to advance someone from your group has to have a 3-0, while everyone else, including you, gets a 1-2. This means there's only 1 spot left to advance, so the three of you play a rematch to determine who gets that last ticket. Rematches will be played inifinitly until 1 person beats both players consecutively.

Let's take a look at each group currently.

Group A:
Savior is 0-2, but he's eliminated automatically because his last opponent is Sea who is 1-1. Even if he wins vs Sea, they both end up 1-2. JaeDong and Best are both 2-1, so the result would be 2-1, 2-1, 1-2, 1-2. Meanwing the two 2-1's, JaeDong and Best, advance.
Meanwhile if Savior loses, then Sea, Best and JaeDong all end up with 2-1 stats, meaning the three will play a rematch to determine which two advance.

Group B:
Stork is 2-0, but he advances. Why? Because his last match is vs Flash, who is 1-1. If he wins, then he gets 3-0 and would advance obviously. But even if stork loses, he would STILL advance because both he and Flash would end up 2-1, while Rumble and Rock end up 1-2. Again, since two players are 2-1 and the other two are 1-2, Flash and Stork would advance.

Meanwhile, for Rumble and Rock, if Flash wins, then they are out because of the reason I just listed above. But if Flash loses and Stork gets a 3-0, then Flash, Rumble and Rock all end up 1-2, sending the 3 into a rematch for the last ticket. Since it's only 1 ticket, the one who beats the other two advances, the others eliminated.

Group C:
Luxury is 3-0, so he advances automatically.

The only game left is July, who is 1-1 vs XellOs, who is 0-2. If July wins then the stats end up as 3-0, 2-1, 1-2, 0-3. This means the 3-0 and 2-1 advance, while 1-2 and 0-3 fails. Meanwhile if July loses then we end up again with 3 players with 1-2 stats, throwing the three into a rematch for the last ticket.

Group D:
Backho is 0-3 so he's out. Much vs YellOw[ArnC] is left. If YarnC loses, Much get's a 3-0 meaning Much advances. YarnC would be 1-2 and Frozean 2-1, so Frozean would advance. But if YarnC wins, all three would end up 2-1, meaning they play a rematch for the 2 spots open, while 1 person falls to ODT.

From the group stage it is much more simple.

The 8 players get thrown into a tournament bracket. Ro8 is bo3, Semi finals and Finals are both bo5 (with a 3rd/4th match bo5 in there). The top 3 players get seeded 1~3 and get into the next OSL. The other players who failed either fall to the Offline qualifiers, or the Ongamenet Dual Tournament, which is qualification round for the next OSL. For information on that look up the article section on TLnet.

Or at any point really. I was disappointed that Much separated them. I want to see a true mirror match.

definitely week system. it gives a timeframe, whereas day... you don't know how many days there are or when it started. not that its impossible to figure out, but its easy to tell apart diffferetn leagues too. thats my opinion

thanks a lot live2win for explaining it so clearly, and not doing any shortcuts. and looking at each group helped a lot. It's all very clear in my mind now^^

It was rather complicated to figure out how osl, msl, and proleague all worked in the beginning. let alone deciphering osc and odt... and simply being told "look at the articles section" was long-winded (its not organized that well). You should have one big featured thread in the articles section explaining all three and the differences (or 3 separate). with a bold, all caps title saying "NOOBS READ THIS" or "OSL FORMAT / MSL FORMAT / PROLEAGUE FORMAT" and make it like the very first thread on the articles section too.

im sure if you were to write a textbook, students would understand much more easily than most authors out there right now. =).

so when it's a situation like 3-0, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, a 3 way tie with 1 more spot, the tie breakers must be really long.

if they are A B C D, and A is 3-0 and advances, the games that must be played are
BvC CvD DvB.

1) if one person gets eliminated, then another tie breaker match between the remaining two.
2) if its rockpaperscissors and all three win one and lose one, then you have another 3 way round!

if the secone scenario occurs, then that must hold back the tournament for a while, eh? unless they make them play multiple games on the same day...

Last season they played all tiebreaker games on one day, (one 3 way tied went to the third set of games before being decided)

Yea they usually set a day for tie-breakers only. The A>B B>C C>A scenario happens a few times, but rarely goes twice or even three times. The very few times they have, they just kept playing that day.

In OSC (then called ODT Round 1) there was a game between Sea/YellOw/ChoJJa (different format back then, long story. Just know it was a league format) that had either 3 or 4 rematches. In the end Sea won, but the games lasted so long that they had to play off-air. I don't know if they'll ever do that in OGN since OGN uses it's own channel, but they might.

I'm pretty sure right after live broadcasts it is always some sort of non-live program, so why not?

oo interesting. so if it drags on beyond the alloted time for the program, then they might play on a different channel (if broadcasted at all) Where couldi find that?

i know gomtv pretty much settles it for watching the MSL
and daum for OSL.

Any concise program for the proleagues?

In ProLeague there are usually two match-ups played - Team A vs. Team B and Team C vs. Team D.

Team A vs. Team B, for example, would be on Daum. Then Team C vs. Team D would be on Gom. The first round of the 2008 ProLeague hasn't started yet though.

Actually one proleague match is held in the OGN studio (by OGN channel which hosts OSLs, has some kind of partnership with DAUM to broadcast OSL games) and one in the MBCGame studio (by MBCGame which hosts MSL, has a partnership with GOMTV to broadcast MSL games).
However, this season both DAUM and GOMTV show both matches for the proleague.

OSC is called OnGamenet Starleague Challenge. It pretty much is the qualifiers for the next season's OSL. If you win the entire OSC, you get a 4th seed in the OSL. As Rock did.
Do your best, God will do the rest.

Holy crap, they are using Demon's Forest again, but again thankfully not for PvT (though that might just be luck with the draws). And why are the maps of the matchups in group C exactly the same as during the regular play? All other groups have at least *some* variation.
