We do use a lot of sarcasm when talking not only in romanian but also in english. There are cultural differences between parts of the world that also influences how people see humor and sarcasm/irony. The difference between european and american humor are sometimes outstanding, and sometimes there aren't any. Same as for european parts, west side's appreciation of humor isn't exactly the eastern europe's appreciation. And i've noticed that multiple times. Just like the difference between people, some like certain jokes some detest them. But on a macro scale for regional appreciation of certain humor types it's all in the culture. About why we "apparently" fail to get sarcasm here in certain situation i don't know the motive. It's probably a conglomerate of motives. First is that in romanian (for example) sarcasm/irony is way easier to spot due to non verbal language (starting from intonation to gestures) and failing to see some's intonation/gestures can mislead your beliefs of the text's nature. Also maybe english not being the language you speak all day long, you can't understand all of it's particularities, expressions and ways of use. | ||
