It's only been up recently, today to be exact... I've been doing the same things on this computer and it seems are that all of a sudden it should come up. I've ran ccleaner and some antivirus, yet it persists. I'm sure I have enough ram(1G) to handle normal routine such as browsing internet on firefox, yet sometimes my firefox freezes and takes about 10 seconds to unstuck, it's quite painful.
Any advise I should take?

How much hard drive space do you have left? I remember having a virtual memory problem around 9 years ago when I was trying to play Final Fantasy VII on my computer (oh gawd) but I only had a few megabytes of space left on my HD and I was getting that same problem.

I have 2G free on C, which is the one it could use, I'm trying to give some of my D to use for the virtual memory, but I am unable to do so...

I try to change the settings in
Performance Options - Advanced
Virtual Memory
-Initial size [_input_]

I try to change my input to 2000 for my harddrive partition D(in addition to C), but it's not working.

sounds like either 1) your RAM is bad or 2) you have some misbehaving programs that are hogging your RAM *points at firefox*

If you are running XP and just surfing you have to work hard to get above 1GB, start->run "msconfig" and take a look at your startup. Uncheck things you don't need. then run "msconfig /auto" to remove the annoying message if you did uncheck some items. The best solution is of course to uninstall or change preferences in programs to remove them from the list completely.

For virtual memory:
- set it fixed to 0 for max and min
- reboot
- defrag the drive (normally the same as your sys drive)
- set it to the same fixed size both for min and max (2000MB should be fine), this way it won't get fragmented.
- reboot

* You need actual free space on your drive to do this. Defrag will require some free space unless you force it, and drives generally don't work well when nearly full.

Firefox does this with me too. most often though, it happens when another program i'm using is accessing my hard drive a lot. I think this is because firefox uses the virtual memory which is on the hard drive. This might not be the reason though. I use a mac, so this sounds like a firefox problem. bloody annoying, though.

Increase your virtual memory size and move it to another drive since your C drive is almost full. Virtual memory is not RAM.

My hard drive has been fucked up lately and FF for some reason doesn't work very well.

But Chrome runs smoothly.

I have no idea why but you could try it.
But why?

if you want a good and permanent fix, buy RAM, since you cant download it.

to fix this problem without spending money, clean up your HDD dude. 2gb free space is a joke and its asking for slow comp performance.
i hate this ugly firebat. i want a marine.

Dude you need to click the "设置(S)" button after you enter your desired amount, then click OK. I believe in English it's "Set".
