So as I'm writing this, I'm not wearing my glases and I can see most things okay, except when I use the computer. I basically broke my glasses because I always sleep with them on when I take naps at home so it kept like bending until yesterday when one of the legs just broke off. I really want contacts. I looked up some forums on this site about contacts and the general consensus is that soft ones are comfortable but they kill your eyes and make it really bad whiile hard ones are uncomfortable but they keep your eyes the same. Are there any ways to improve youe eye vision like drastically without surgery? The only thing I know that will help is eatingcarrots but I doubt it will help very much. Thanks

Btw I'm typing so I can't really read what I'm saying, it hurts to put my eyes on the screen too close so if you can't read something or its mistyped, sorry.

Contacts are expensive and they also need replacing every year. Unless you are a very handsome guy, most people look the same w/ or w/ out glasses. The only occasion that I can think of where contacts are necessary is sports, but then again you could always wear protective goggles.

Additionally, if you don't take them out whilst sleeping, they crust in your eyes, making it very painful. (Better to break cheap glasses, then inflict personal injury)

Then again, I hear all this as 2nd-hand information from my dad so it may not be correct.

Is it true that eating carrots helps your vision? I know they are a good supply of vitamin D, but I didn't know they possessed magical healing abilities as well. Edit: I just googled it and it is the vitamin A in carrots which aids the restoration of your eyes which in turn makes your vision better. (but it does not improve it) However, the same site also suggests the benefits of Vitamin C and Vitamin E so I guess just eats lots of Salad and drink lots of Orange Juice!

Lastly, I must compliment your extraordinary typing skills.
Multiply your efforts.

Soft contacts and glasses are basically the same thing. Your eyeshape will gradually change regardless of whether you wear soft contacts or glasses. Up until you're about mid 20s will they gradually cease to change. So soft contacts don't really kill your eyes anymore than glasses.

Hard contacts on the other hand are REALLY uncomfortable, but they do keep your eye in place, which prevents them from getting worse.

What you need to do is get away from your computer a while, go outside and enjoy the fresh air or something. Let your eyes have some rest from bright screens (TVs, Comp screens).

Nice glasses are a defining accessory, not something to avoid really. If you want to get rid of them for practical purposes like sports and stuff thats different.

As far as contacts, almost no one wears RGP lenses (the hard ones) anymore. Only if you have specific irregularities with your corneas would you require those.

Do you know why you wear glasses? You should definitely see an eye doctor to find out if contacts work for you or if you can get lasik or some other laser surgery

However, this is just a myth because only a small amount of Vitamin A is needed to maintain good vision. All the excess Vitamin A you intake gets converted into other areas in maintaining a healthy body.

Thanks kdog. Most people seem to wear the same pair of contacts for like 6 months, and they say its okay so I dont know if they need replacing each year. My mom also told me that contacts are expensive but they dont' sem that badly priced/ Also another reason my glases kept getting loose was because I play alot of basketball and they fall off alot. And no carrots don't really heal your vision magically but it helps it kinda sorta I guess.

Yeah the good thing about my glasses being broken is that I don't watch as much as tv or use the computer, and I really wanted to play sc this weekend.

I've eaten plenty of carrots/blueberries/walnuts throughout my life but that never influenced the situation.
vitamins are good, but there's a lot more u need to do in order to overcome inherited/acquired eye problems.
certain exercises do magic.

edit: some glasses look hot

I wear contacts, any my eyes never hurt/feel irritated

I honestly cant even feel them

Im pretty sure you can get some trial contacts; just keep in mind, the first time you try and put them in its going to take at least 15 minutes. It will get faster and easier the more often you do it

I'm in a somewhat similar situation... well... yeah 'somewhat.'

I hate wearing glasses because they just sorta get in the way or can fall off, especially if you sweat. I went until college without wearing them so it's a hard adjustment. I generally put them on for driving or looking at chalkboards etc and take them off for other things... but that can be a real pain in the ass when I'm not at work with a breast pocket for ez storage.

I spent a lot of money on a contact lens exam, and experimented with them a bit, and came to the conclusion that I'm just kinda screwed. You see, I have a mild condition (note one of my first blogs) where my eyes produce a slightly improper amount of oil in tears, which means contact lenses are slightly uncomfortable. I can mostly get rid of the symptoms by doing a warm compress on my closed eye (5 minutes each) every night as a sort of treatment. But when I don't do that, the contacts become uncomfortable. I also know nothing about hard contacts... soft contacts aren't all that expensive though.

My other problem is that I absolutely hate reading with corrective vision on (I only need glasses for distance reading). That's a pain for glasses, and a real pain for contacts since I am forced to read often (at work, on computer). I'm really afraid of any permanent treatment of the eyes though =(

my contacts were decent priced I think... 4 boxes for $112 , those 4 boxes will probably last me about 1 year or more if I really want to stretch it, so that's less than $10 per month basically to be able to see and not look nerdy for a year's time, pretty good deal;p

I don't recall because I only got some last season, but since I would be an 'occasional' wearer, they would be pretty cheap. It's possible if I ran through the numbers it would add up quickly for daily wearers. I think I got a box of 3 pairs for ~20 or 20 and change dollars. A pair of them if kept in the solution properly would last for two weeks' worth IIRC but talk to an eyecare office about that.

I've been wearing soft contacts for 7 years now. They're fine. They don't cost LOTS OF MONEY like some people try and say. I pay $55 every half year, for 3 sets a box. You only wear them for a month a set, but you can push it for 2-3. I mean its fine really. Unless you have an astigmatism. Then you're fucked and much better off using glasses.

Either way, just go with soft contacts. Not only do you look better with out glasses, but... actually yeah that's about it.

Hey Roffles, how do you know so much about the biochemistry of Vitamin A slash beta carotene. Are you a biochem major?

Also to the OP, there are eye exercises that you do to help improve your eye sight. Google it, there is a lot out there on these exercises.
