are you using your pinky like you are supposed to? you only use 2 fingers for that chord, the index holds down 2 strings and the pinky gets the one on the 8th fret | ||

Also, if you're young, your hands might still grow? + Show Spoiler + I remember my first day trying to play guitar. I couldn't make my fingers go where I wanted to. It just feels akward, and you have to physically move your fingers with your other hand to put them in the right place. It's sorta like making the Vulcan sign with your hand. Connecting your 1st and 2nd finger, your 3rd and 4th finger, and separating them to make a V. Feels akward the first time you try, and now it's dead simple. There's a lot of muscle memory and junk that goes on. I couldn't do a G chord, C chord, etc.. I just couldn't move my fingers at all. Bar chords were literally impossible for me. Few years later, I can do it without realizing it. I'm a pretty good guitar player now, can easily play a lot of shred. So just because the first little while is akward as fuck, doesn't mean your fucked at all. I was so desperate once I actually e-mailed Paul Gilbert and asked him if I was "Screwed" because my fingers weren't acting normally. ... so I understand the fear and the akwardness. It's just practice, familiarization, etc.. It's not uncomfortable in the slightest to fret chords now. It really becomes 100% natural. | ||

![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/FakeSteveTPR/areyoudoingthis.png) are you trying to hold the 2nd and 3rd strings on the fifth fret with your index and middle fingers like in the first diagram? because you should be holding your index finger across the fifth fret of all three and holding the 8th fret on the first string with your pinky like in the second diagram | ||
